I have a Dana, Spicer, Foote 4450-3 transaxle on my old Murray 30" cut riding mower. Regarding the brake obsolescence issue in your video. I encountered the same problem. Went to McMaster Carr catalog and ordered brake pads and cut them to exact size of the originals. They worked great! RM

Seems more like air intrusion in the fuel system, injector return boots might be leaky especially since it started ran then stalled out and wasn't smoking anymore when cranking. I had an old 7.3 in a 1991 and I have an 86 with a 6.9, the 6.9 starts instantly and the 7.3 I had did as well after the injector return system was rebuilt and after I replaced all the glow plugs.

I've got one single stop/hazard circuit that went bad, according to a few sources the circuit runs through the turn signal switch in order to either send direct power to the brake light or route power through the flasher unit in the fuse box to each side of the truck. The passenger side rear light assembly functions perfectly, the driver side rear assembly is missing stop/hazard light functionality. No fuses blown, no wire damage, no faulty brake light switch. Turn signal and running light work perfectly. Now, I'm inclined to believe the turn signal switch is the culprit for my issue, considering I've replaced everything else. All I know is, somewhere there is a failure of the stop/hazard and it is not anywhere involving the initial signals that precede the splitting of the circuits to each assembly. It starts either in the point of separation of circuits or along the single circuit to the individual side. TL;DR this video is gonna be a big help when I change that switch out.

Actually it's Schiller Grounds Care, not motors... No they didn't sell out, they decided to sell the Bob-Cat line to Doosan Bobcat at the end of December 2020. SGC still makes other lines of equipment. You need to look things up before leaving misleading comments... Also the six year warranties of the old Bob-Cat units are fully honored by Doosan Bobcat. Bad cut quality with this particular machine. Problem is the blade speed is to slow...I find myself re-mowing areas that I just mowed. I had an older craftsman zt..broke after 14 yrs..but that older craftsman was a better cutting machine. So I went back to bobcat to see if I could somehow speed up the blade speed...and answer was crank up the rpm.ram.. I never needed 100 % rpm on my old machine always ran about 70%...even so..I cranked the bobcat up as high as it would go...still sucks. And one other thing...there's no grease fittings for the blade bearing carriers. I know...it's not a 100% commercial unit..but I won't make this mistake again.

Have you not been running your engine at full governed throttle? That is a big no. Running at less than full throttle makes your engine and hydraulics run hotter and harder. Not to mention FPS will be lower and cut quality will suffer. The engine's RPM can be increased to about 3,700 without causing problems if you really feel the need to. I've never had anyone complain about the cut quality on a Bobcat. Unless they were running the throttle below designed RPM. You're not doing your engine any favors running it less than GWOT. (Governed Wide Open Throttle) As far as the mandrels, all Bobcat mandrels are non grease-able. They use high end Timken, Koyo or Peer bearings made in the USA or Japan depending on the model. Not Chinese no name bearings. I have never had one these mandrels fail. Our eXmark line is the same way. Even the top of the line model has non grease-able mandrels. I had commercial customers get about 1,500 hours out of the original bearings. That's pretty darn good.

The old school carbs I rebuild (Holley 94's/Strombergs) I use the 'industrial' Simple Green (Home Depot/gallon) that is safe for use on aluminum as the regular Simple Green yes will turn it black when soaked long term. I also use a sonic cleaner (Harbor Freight) w/ a 3:1 distilled water/simple green (industrial) mix. Heat and run for several cycles. They come out looking mint! If it's a piece I want to show, I will use muriatic acid in the sonic cleaner instead of simple green and then soda blast the cases. I agree the Chem-dip of 20+ years ago was the bomb, used to use it back in the 80's for carbs and if it wasn't metal it was gone. Great vid, stay well.

This was a poor solution. Don't cut shit. You will have a bulky pile of junk once completed doing this way. Don't be a hack. Think how the factory installed it. They didn't cut shit to put it together. It is a puzzle you need to solve. Proper procedure.... 1) Leave the collar on the column. It's a bitch to put back correctly, anyway. 2) The gray plastic connector you so astutely showed at the bottom of the column that was too difficult to remove is exactly what needs to be disconnected. It isn't too tough to do. 3) Once disconnected, you will see there is a red keeper in the connector. Pull the red keeper. This will allow the wires to be removed from the gray plastic connector. 4) Pull the wires individually up through the steering wheel collar. Pay attention to the path the wires take. 5) Open the package with the new switch and take a few pictures of the location of the wires as they are in the gray plastic connector. This is a requirement as the colors of the wires may be different from the factory. 6) Remove the red keeper from the new gray connector and remove the wires. 7) Push the wires individually back down through the column's collar. Follow the path from whence they came. 8) Reinstall the wires in their respective holes in the gray plastic connector. Reinstall the red keeper. 9) Install the new switch mechanism onto the column. 10) Reconnect the gray connector at the bottom of the column. 11) Put the steering wheel, column, lower dash panels and eveything else back together. Done. I just this last Saturday. Lesson: Don't destroy something to take it apart. If you can't figure it, find the right KZbin video or the right commenter. The correct answer is here or in your head.

First of all, where do you get off saying I cut anything on my truck. I beg your pardon, I don't hack up anything on my vehicles. There's a reason why I removed two bolts to drop the column downward, then removed three screws to slide the collar out of the way. (Not hard to reinstall when the column is dropped down as in my video by the way...) Then UNPLUG the now easily accessible multi-function switch's plug. (Which I also did...) This is my method, other's use a different method. Also on a side note. I have a 100% reversible (With no permanent holes or signs of modification.) clutch interlock switch bypass method using a mini ATC fuse. Why? Because I don't like hacking up my vehicle's original harness. Not even with a be-jevus clip as I call them... (Cruise control will not function unless the other two wires are connected together as well FYI.) Before you also say why not use the interlock switch because it's dangerous blah, blah, blah. I custom fabricated the clutch master rod with a replaceable and adjustable heim joint. Which solves a bad OEM design. The down side is the switch will not fit on the shorter custom rod due to the added heim joint. I think you need to re-watch my actual video. Then post you're somewhat decent albeit unwarranted exposé on whatever other video you were watching that did hack up their vehicle...

Very nice mower but, IMO 19 mph is just a selling point. I've had a commercial ztr mower for 12 yrs that runs 13 mph and 99% of the time you can only mow cleanly around 9 mph or under. To each his own tho..... :-)
@ClintsTractor
@ClintsTractor 3 жыл бұрын
I own one and actually use the transport speed all the time. Either to get from one side of a large property to the other, or from one property to the next. It's definitely no gimmick, but a useful feature. Also if the property is smooth enough, I can mow no problem at 13 MPH and it still look nice...
@StanWilhite
@StanWilhite 3 жыл бұрын
@@ClintsTractor Don't mean to argue but I've been mowing for over 60 years.....the last 13 years with a commercial ztr. You might take the tops off of grass that doesn't really need to be cut, but no way can anyone mow average grass (height and thickness) at 13 mph and end up with a professional finish cut...even w/sharp blades. I can see maybe using top speed for going around subdivision streets or what not, but in my 67 years I've probably mowed more grass than 95% of the mowing population, and you just can't mow average grass (again, that needs to be cut) at 13mph. Also, as for the "2 spd transaxle", unless it's different from others, pressing the pedal just allows the linkage to go farther, it's not actually a "2 spd". (Again, unless it's different from others like the Cheetah). It's a selling point that might be used 1% of the time, and that's ok....I get it. :-) PS. LOL For me not wanting to argue, I sure sound like I'm arguing, huh? :-) Sorry just my .02.
@ClintsTractor
@ClintsTractor 3 жыл бұрын
@@StanWilhite You don't mean to argue, but yet we technically are... I've been mowing for nigh on twenty years, the last ten has been commercial. The last nigh on six of that has been with commercial ZTRs. I think I know what I'm talking about when it comes to being able to mow fast and still have a good cut quality. The ZTR is what makes the difference, that and the terrain makes a big difference. I cut at 13 MPH often when mowing some of my commercial properties. A Bobcat cuts every blade of grass depending on conditions. The properties I cut definitely need to be mowed every time I come out... Furthermore you have no idea how Hydro-Gear's ZT-5400 hydraulics function based off of your comment. It is in fact a two speed transaxle, even Hydro-Gear calls it that in all literature including the IPL. You're not allowing your linkages to travel farther, that's not how that works. Even the Scag Cheetah doesn't operate that way... The optional two speed function on a ZT-5400 utilizes a shaft and cam to push on the swash plate to increase the flow rate. Which thus increases speed in all input positions. I am an authorized Hydro-Gear dealer, I know what I'm talking about... I am a dealer for Bobcat, eXmark, RedMax, Z-Spray and soon to be Walker Mowers. I have sold and worked on more mowers and turf equipment then you've owned in those sixty-seven years of mowing. While I can appreciate your mowing experience, you have to look at it from my perspective as well. As I have vast experience and technical knowledge in the OPE realm as I call it. I'm not just some sales guy going off of the marketing jargon with no real world experience. I use and work on what I sell personally and in my commercial fleet. I may do a video at some point showing how the two speed function works in the near future. As it is similar to most all two speed hydraulic systems.

@StanWilhite 3 жыл бұрын
@@ClintsTractor LOL......Gee, didn't mean to hit a nerve there....seriously. Thought I was keeping it lighthearted by the "PS". Anyway, I also didn't say you were just "some sales guy". But imo you overstated BC as the "biggest/baddest", and all of the experience in the world doesn't change the laws of physics....it just doesn't. All I can say is sharp blades spinning at a BTS of aprox 200 mph can only process so much material, and when you say (in other videos) that "the mower will go 19mph and you can cut as slowly or as fast as you want to", that's just not true. On most properties you couldn't even stay ON the mower at 19mph, much less leave a professional cut behind....that's just ridiculous. I can't argue details on being a good/great mechanic, you have me beat hands down there, but what I will argue is common sense. I understand that you believe BC's are great mowers (and I agree), but I think you got a little overzealous with your sales presentation. Before buying my fully commercial ztr I studied them (all brands/daily) for 3 years before buying...it became a serious hobby. I found that Bob Cat is a very, very good product and has an unbeaten warranty...probably the best of all. But in my opinion Bad Boy excels in many more areas over BC than the other way around (that's obviously why I bought a BB). Commercial BB's have a heavier built front axle...better seat available...same 15 gal tank (but with a better view of the deck imo)... front susp/ link rear suspension....2" rec (front and rear)....general overall heavier build....floor board w/rubber mat....flat top of deck (for easy blowing off/washing), ...(patented) "swing out" gas tanks for better access...deck more securely attached to mower frame...wide discharge chute with a thick flexible rubber (not stiff plastic) deflector. Most other parts are basically the same "off the shelf" parts. So, we're still left with physics and the fact that any mower can only process so much grass and still leave a good cut. If you don't agree with that, guess my grass is different than yours. If you really want to talk about the "biggest/baddest" remember the BB with the 35hp 4 cyl Cat diesel that was discontinued because of the tier 4 emissions? Never saw anything that compared unless it was at least 10 grand more. Again, I'm not mad, and I'm not saying that BC's aren't great mowers....it's just that there are other great mowers that excel in many places. When you say the "biggest and baddest" out of a group of (at my last count) over 80 ztr manufacturers, that's a big claim to make. Just because it will go 19mph doesn't make it the "biggest" or the "baddest"....sorry. I'm just stating the facts.

There is no actual towing capacity to my knowledge. The only accessories approved are the OEM ones offered by Bobcat. That being said, that unit's wet weight with ZT-5400 transaxles (with all fluids) is 1,500 lbs. The max GVWR for the ZT-5400 transaxles is 2,200 lbs. So the max payload capacity would be 700 lbs. for any accessories attached to the ZTR. As far as towing capacity being there is none, that would be at your own risk and determination. As towing changes the handling dynamics of a ZTR.

I overhauled Weber Carbs, S.U.'s, Zenith Stromberg Carbs, anything British pretty much. I always bought Berryman's Chem Dip, but I would buy the 5-gallon pail plus it came with a nice steel basket. I mention this because the Chem dip Gallon was different than its 5-gallon counterpart. The 5-gallon pail when stirred, especially when it was new, turned from a black color to a yellow color. The gallon size did not. Probably because the gallon was on retail shelves and the pail they sold to garages, so it could be more caustic. You couldn't leave aluminum in there for more than an hour, nevermind overnight, there wouldn't be any carbs in the basket if you did. EPA, it's changed everything, and for good reasons.

No fuel gauge is why I didn’t buy this

Pushed mowed almost half of Mom's 2.5 acres. Why? The Redmax RZT 48 zero-turn mower I bought in September 2019 is back in the shop. This time, the bolt holding the idler pulley broke. Amarillo Outdoor and Power Equipment has to wait for warranty approval from the manufacturer. Saturday will be 3 weeks I have been waiting. Last year, I lost 3 weeks of use when the starter solenoid had to be replaced only 7 months after I bought the machine. I THINK I GOT A LEMON.

We're sorry to see you've had issues with a RedMax mower. As with any new machine, sometimes issues arise that are out of everyone's control. That being said, warranty is usually very responsive and quick to approve or deny claims for us at least. We also have a multi level queue that helps get our customers back out on the lawn faster. This is the order of customers that dictate how fast we get to their unit. In peak times it could take 2 to 4 weeks sometimes longer for queue 4. Queue 3 could take 1 to 2 weeks. Queues 1 and 2 take from same day to a few days depending on how many have come in and part availability. Our commercial customers always come first as this is their livelihood. 1: Commercial who bought from us. 2: Commercial who has yet to buy from us. 3: Residential who has bought from us. 4: Residential who has not bought from us. This allows us to streamline our operations in an attempt to get our customers in and out as fast as possible. Not very many if any other dealership implements this.

Can you tell build date from the serial number?
@ClintsTractor

Sorry for the late reply, did not see your comment until now... Yes. RedMax serial numbers begin with the date of manufacture. The following is how the serial numbers are decoded. They are in the following format; MMDDYY, then assembly line letter, followed by the sequence number for that model series. Some units we get in are built one after the other in sequence. Which is kind of cool. They're basically sister units in that instance.

Does the mower outrun the blades?
@ClintsTractor

It'll cut as fast or as slow as you want to. Assuming of course you have new or sharp blades. That's one thing both myself and my customers are impressed with...

If a mower manu made a ZTR that you could actually stay on, and cut cleanly at 19mph....there would only be one brand of commercial ZTR made.....and we'd ALL own it!
