Wicked hook sets! Way to cross his eyes….Hey buddy don’t sell yourself short because you’re doing great. You remind me of myself when I was your age always looking for spots on my own! No one had to tell me but I was a very good listener and spent hours at my local B&T where the old sharpies hung out but I never asked them where they fished especially there secret honey holes. Once they got to know me and more importantly trusted me they would share some info that was priceless. You have to remember back then there was no internet or social media so I wrote everything down in a log book after every trip. I even have cassette tapes which I still have when I was back in grammar school recording my trips.. Lol I love the passion you have with fishing so even though your going to have some shitty trips and get skunked just remember it’s not always about catching fish but just being out there by yourself watching the sunrise and sunset and breathing that salt air as the terns and seagulls cry so enjoy every minute because time flys by too fast!

When does the fluke fishing die down on shore?
@NikolasMarshall13 күн бұрын
Hey rum, the fluke fishing is actually supposed to get better from shore as the season goes on. From what i've learned the peanut bunker come close to shore in like August/September and the fluke start feasting. I've done well in late July and August so my hopes are high. Good luck dude!

does the lighter braid help with feeling hits and the action, I always thought the lighter braid was bad against wind. I use 20 but that might be overkill from shore, more for gp incase I hook something else
@NikolasMarshall13 күн бұрын
What’s up Andrew! The lighter braid definitely helps me feel bites. I also get better casting distance with it. The wind will blow it around, but keeping your rod tip low can help avoid this. I know plenty of people who use heavy braid and still catch though. Maybe try 10-15 pound braid if you are thinking of going lighter. Have you been catching any big ones recently?
@andrewkim135713 күн бұрын
@@NikolasMarshall other than a month ago with the 23 incher, not really but haven't been able to get out recently. Last time it was mainly shorts, but wasn't able to get a smaller jerk bait for the trips and only had heavier ones. Do those freshwater ones avoid the weeds or is it still a issue even if it's smaller and lighter? But it's mostly been bay side thts done better than ocean for me I was surprised last time since I didn't know they closed off one of the beaches due to birds. Wonder how long tht lasts, ik there's other surf side beach access spots but still is unfortunate. At least the bait fishing was good tho
@NikolasMarshall13 күн бұрын
I saw that 23 incher man it was a nice fish! I think the jerkbait is always going to get weeds on it no matter what kind you use. The treble hooks are like weed magnets. Yeah I hope they reopen the beach soon. About a month ago I talked to one of the rangers and he said it was going to take 3 weeks for the birds to leave... Hopefully you get out there a few more times this summer man i'll see you out there.

NJ beaches are so much easier to do this on than south shore Long Island beaches
@mhnyc15 күн бұрын
I was just gonna say the same thing. The Sandy Hook (or wherever this is) terrain and surf really attracts some nice doormats. Much rarer in LI. Plus LI has much rougher wash and constant south wind.

@NikolasMarshall23 күн бұрын
Thanks brother! I've got lots of time to fish right now but im not sure how long this is going to last lol. Gotta use it while I can. Fishing the surf is always a grind man. I suggest maybe targeting spots like inlets and bays where the fish are more concentrated in certain areas. Only problem is that a lot of the land in these areas is private. Use google maps and google earth to try and find some spots. You can use the website called GPS Nautical Charts to see water depths at certain spots. This will help you figure out if the spot is deep enough to hold fish and you can find drop offs / ledges. Next video I make I might go over how to find spots and what to look for. Good luck man and keep grinding!

Looks like you have a pretty sharp drop-off there, wherever you are. I've always thought fluke need structure in order to hang out and wait for something to attack. I wouldn't think of trying to catch them in sandy surf... but maybe it's that drop-off?
@NikolasMarshallАй бұрын
Hey liven, you are correct. At the beach there is a steep drop-off right where the waves crash on the shore. A lot of times fluke will sit near it and eat whatever comes out of the "wash" which is where the waves crash. You will catch some fluke farther away from the drop off though. Offshore the fluke will sit near big rocks and whatever else is down there to ambush bait. Great question!
