We're moving into a new house and it has a huge cedar hedge out front. Initially I was thinking that I would just cut it all down and replace it with a cedar fence instead. But I wonder if I can cut it down to something more reasonable to save it or at least put off the fence for a few years. I think it currently stands about 16-20 feet tall. Is it realistic to think you could cut that down to 6' without killing?

Don't worry about your kness kid. If your knees go bad in your 70's (that's 40 years for you), the procedure will be painless and fast. Medicine is moving quickly. I need a knee replacement. I have two friends who have had it done. They had them replaced in the morning and were walking by late afternoon. No more pain.They both said they wish they had it done earlier. Imagine where medicine will be if you're having knee problems in the future.

@phil.vision
@phil.vision 2 ай бұрын
Hi! Thanks for stopping by. You are always limited to what the plant has to offer. In the Quebec climate zone, we can't trim too aggressively or past the green on the side. If the emerald will be bare after pruning, its perhaps best to consider replanting a few units. Cheers!

How much would you charge for doing the same on a 200 foot long hedge? 15 feet wide at the top and about 12 feet high.
@phil.vision
@phil.vision 3 ай бұрын
Thousands! a 15ft wide reduction is a NIGHTMARE! If it's wider than it's taller, I wouldn't reduce it. For a trim, I'd put a day on it for 3-4 guys, so 3500$ Cad

Thank you so much for answering. I figured that much. That hedge is a monstrosity, indeed. It was planted as a double row of cedars more than 50 years ago by my wife's grandfather and was not kept under control. We purchased the house and I inherited the problem. It takes me days of pain and suffering to keep it at the state it is now. And it was bigger when I first started with it!

Bridgenorth Ontario here, just had 320 ft of white cedar hedge planted with the hopes of someday being as bushy as some of the hedges I see in your videos. What kind of cedar were these and how old were they? Mine are 9-10 tall right now, planted about 1 foot 3/4 apart.

We don’t have enough kilometres to justify dies. The box is 10 feet long and it is just the right size. If you are only a tree removal company, maybe you should consider something bigger. fast forward four years and we do a lot of pruning and don’t do a lot of removals so it’s perfect.

I usually " stay within the green " on the sides. I know where to go by experience. If you cut in the wood, you'll scrap the hedge sides.

why no one's being honest about the play in the adjustment axle ? in any position mine has like 1,5-2 cm play at the blade edge, this is huge, in straight position, it looks like it's on the -1 decline position...... I can see the same problem on any video of it (520ihe3), this plays a lot... the steel adjustment ring not only plays itself, but it also slowly eating the painted zamac in it's slot. I'll have to disassemble it and find a way to fix this. Makes me want to get back to gas trimmer. At the beginning it was just like a 0,5cm play, I'm not abusing it, not even use it so much, but still the play grows larger with time. unacceptable.

Having the same issues with the hedge trimmer and combo trimmer, both surging and slowing.. Blower also surges sometimes like something is caught on the fan intake (but nothing is!) Has to be a battery/ electrics issue.. (Using 2 x 300 & 2 x 200 batteries 2 years old.. Haven't found a reputable service shop here in Sunshine Coast!!
@electric6877
@electric6877 5 ай бұрын
I’ve heard that it’s likely related to a temperature sensor on the control board. A lot of different battery powered equipment tools occasionally have this issue. We took our 520ihd60 to the shop and one took like 5 months and they were “too busy to get to it” then the second dealer said it was a “bent blade”. Except that a bent blade would cause the trimmer to barely move and it would make the electrical small “hum” sound when trying to press the trigger. But it’s doing the surging issue. I had this issue on my 325ilk and it turned out to be the trigger switch.
