Can’t wait for summer and a chance to throw mine some more and hook into some giants. Good video Kris. I guess sometimes being too cold to work in the shop has its benefits giving you time to edit some killer content. 👍. Glad you convinced that turtle to give up his foggy meal. 😂 ✌️

4” is plenty of ice for me, especially when it’s clear black ice like that. Pretty sure I know that pond as it’s only about 25 minutes from my place. I’ve never put my Slayer in there but have ice fished it a few times and caught tons of Pickerel. Been told there are some good Bass in there by a lady angler we know who lives near there as well, but lots of dinks. This looks like a ton of fun but I don’t think I’ll be manhandling an auger for a while after my shoulder surgery so probably no ice fishing for me and wouldn’t you know it , we’re getting ice early this year. I’ve met some weird people on the ice before but this guy was right up there, I mean I love Sushi but what the heck.

I know where you were. Technically NOT Winnisquam once you jumped the beaver damn. Maybe kayak tournaments have different rules 🤷 Since you were fishing un-pressured fish, it's less about the specific lure you were using. You probably could have caught a ton back there on basically anything. A rubber frog would've been killer, or a black Senko.
@Northern_Bass_Ninja2 ай бұрын
Some tournament rules have off limit areas and rules about leaving the kayak. Be interesting what the Bass Nation rules are on this. Was the area considered off limits and can he leave the kayak, drag over a beaver damn. I am going to say that it was ok considering he posted this video 😅
@MrTightLinesАй бұрын
Thanks for watching the video, first of all! And yes, according to Navionics, tourney director, members of the committee and all NH maps, that water is a direct part of Winnisquam. And it's totally in bounds. BUT.....now here's the big but. According to the rules I'm NOT to leave my kayak and drag it over those few sticks and get back in. If I were to sit in it and scoot across it would be fine, and therefore this lead to an after season DQ as such. Had I not left my yak to get there, I would have 100% been in bounds according to multiple sources. I did in fact, screw myself.
@MrTightLinesАй бұрын
I had sent a snip of this video to the tourney director and a member of the committee before fully editing this video, and they OK'd everything. I had also told competing members just where I was that day and everyone was fine with it. After I released this video, a disgruntled Bass Nation member reported it and the tourney director had to directly report it to Bass Nation. After further review...the fact I left the yak for those few seconds DQ'd me. If I'd have scooted....I would've stayed in bounds. Very much a learning situation for me here. Doesn't take away from the feeling this day gave me, and in pride I can feel like I won. But in reality, I got an out of season DQ. Hard lesson here.

Personally not doing so hot, messed up my shoulder a few weeks back and just found out I’ve torn my left rotator cuff and will require surgery. My husband and I just recently ordered our "Feelfree" Yaks for recreational use and maybe some light fishing.... We are long-time boaters but have only rented kayaks a few times. We are watching as many YT videos related to kayaking as we can, in order to help us learn and to be more prepared .....And especially videos like yours that show us what "can" happen and how we can be more prepared to handle it if it does. I want to thank you for sharing this video. I think it really helps people to plan and be more prepared for the unexpected. But I must say that some of the comments about your nephew and making fun of him really annoy me.🙄 People can be so harsh. Especially since you explained in the beginning of the video that your nephew had suffered a traumatic event when he was young, which causes him to struggle with a fear of the water. So I agree with you it's impressive that he was willing to go out there at all. And I very much commend him for just being willing to get out there on the water and to face his fears. That takes a lot of courage, and many people in the same situation would never do it, and instead would just rather live with that fear for the rest of their life. So good for you for being a good uncle and encouraging and supporting him. Of course, I also agree that not only should everyone always wear a PFD, but "especially" when in cold weather/water conditions, and most definitely when someone is fearful of the water, for sure. Plus, unlike a typical boat, when you are on/in a kayak, you should always plan & be prepared that going in the water is a likely possibility. And I know your nephew did some things wrong, but considering his fears, plus I assume he was not overly experienced with kayak fishing in general, so I personally think that he overall handled himself very well..... Because many people in the same situation would have likely ended up flipping you in their panic. I've always been taught that a drowning person can often nearly drown the person who is trying to save them.... So I thought he did pretty darn good for the situation at hand. I personally have no fear of the water, but I also absolutely despise feeling cold, and in a situation like that I think that I'd have a really hard time not freaking out trying to get out of that cold water at all cost, which would be very bad. So I think he did pretty darn good about fighting his fears in the moment. And I think you were an awesome uncle in the way you communicated with him, remained calm, and didn't make him feel like a big screw up, like so many people would do in the same circumstance. And I'm so glad he was okay. And in return this experience and your video has taught us the importance of always wearing a PFD, dressing correctly for the weather/water and the importance of realizing that you quite possibly could end up in the water, and the importance of practicing in advance dealing with these situations and being able to get back on/in your kayak quickly..... And your Bonifide was quite impressive. I knowit'ss been a few years now, I hope you are both doing well and that your nephew continued to get out there. 😊
