@@Frenko1 got them, great video, but I think the media/radio and tel/map buttons are just luck if you remove without breaking. I broke 3/4 of those little clips holding it in place there is no way to get it off without breaking unless you are very lucky

So i am facing maybe similar issue to this and i don’t know if HCV can solve it, The driver side window vent and left middle vents are blowing kind of cool air but not as cold as the passenger one, switched to legs and top vents and it is blowing very hot air. Tomorrow am going to the shop to replace the HCV and i hope that will solve my problem.

@NawarALMallouhi Mine was blowing hot on passenger side feet, and it fixed it. Hopefully fixes yours also

Hi ! In january my x5 had those symptoms i changed the hcv and works good for 9 months, now i have the same problem driver side cold air and passenger side and rear side a little hot, do you think the hcv fails again ? My x5 have coolant with water, becouse had a small leak so every week i refiled like 100 ml with water and sometimes eith coolant, the leak is gone

@nesiospeed it's hard to say but it's possible to have valve go bad. I got one from Amazon for $25 so I won't be surprised if it goes bad by next year.

FYI... this usually fixes the issue. I initially had no heat, changed the HCV and got heat. Summer came along and I had a mix of hot/cold air. Thought it would be faulty HCV, swapped it out and same issue. Checked coolant and pressures were good. Had to take to a shop, ran ISTA and multiple tests, no errors. Checked blend doors actuators and had to remove dashboard. Finally decided to swap out JBE module just to see what would happen, A/C was now fixed. I post this just in case someone is having the same problem after swapping out HCV.

@@robertmanning2581 There were two issues. The HCV was stuck and therefore I got no heat. Fixed that issue and then I couldn't get cold air. After troubleshooting, taking apart the dash, running ISTA+ diagnostic. No issues found. Shop decided to swap JBE modules and the A/C worked. The JBE was faulty even though it passed all ISTA diagnostics. No coolant leaks. Two Issues: 1. HCV 2. JBE Module

Just my 2 cents. Why not use a dremel to break the old buttons? Besides, there is no use them anyway. I would use dremel to bore the sides of the old buttons and break there. Thanks for the sharing. Most helpful!

I ordered one of these for my Mk6 Jetta off Ebay. It seems in all these tutorial videos that there is an associated wire that I guess comes with the switch, but mine didn't come with any attached or extra wires. Am I going to need to source a wire to hook up or am I not understanding what's going on here?

The extra wire (black wire) is sensor for day/night and it should of came with your light switch. That wire/sensor knows when to turn on/off lights. Other than that it's plug and play.

@@Frenko1 I've looked at more videos and what I've realized today is that apparently there is a surprising amount of variation between models and years in terms of the exact setup of this switch. They're all removed the same way but the hook up system and housing for the old and new replacement switches are different from what you have in this video. I'm going to have to look around and find the exact kind of switch that fits my car
