Just want to mention here: your airspeed dropped so fast and i think should pushed the more and consistenly. You were by any means not perfect in this Situation.

The reason for trim forward is this. If you set the trim to neutral, the aircraft will be trimmed for about 80-100 kph. During the initial part of the take off roll and first seconds of flight you are below trimmed speed, and so the stick will be wanting to move forward because of the trim spring overpowering the aerodynamic force of the elevator. You’ll be pulling against that force to pull the aircraft off the ground, which is normal…pull to climb. As you leave the ground, the aircraft accelerates further and reaches trimmed speed, where the stick force has reduced to zero. But as you further accelerate to tow speed, the aerodynamic force of the elevator overpowers the trim spring and you now find that, in order NOT to climb (which is what the glider wants to do as it wants to return to trim speed) you now have to push on the stick, a very unnatural thing to do and very easy to get into PIO. If you take off with the trim well or fully forward, you will need to pull back throughout the tow, which is normal. Trim after release. To avoid PIO , the blue angels also fly trimmed well forward throughout their formation flying. They actually want a pull force of about 40 pounds throughout the flight, also helps increase the G tolerance as pulling back makes you strain those abdominal muscles. Always learn and fly safely

BGA policy is to keep your hand on the release. Basically so you don't kill the tow plane pilot. Only takes a few seconds to sling shot above the tow plane pilot while you look down trying to find the trim, cell phone, camera or release etc. This is no different than the teen driver adjusting the radio only to look up and be in the ditch. I believe once you get to 1000' agl you can make adjustments. Seems like a good method. www.nbcbayarea.com/news/local/east-bay/plane-flips-catches-fire-in-crash-at-byron-airport/2287494/

@andrewcullum70975 жыл бұрын
It's not rocket science is it guys!?? What you need is an extension LANYARD!! Of VERY STRONG Nylon cord on the release, and a Yellow T handle on the end of it, plainly a ridiculous design flaw of earlier generation gliders where the release for pilots, in a lot of cases is almost out of reach., and restrictive of full left aileron, just when you may NEED full control deflection, either on the ground, or smashing your way through low level turbulence ( Memories of Aboyne!!) Also, Trim WELL forward for Aerotow launching, particularly with a CG hook, again why do manufacturers continue to produce aircraft with only ONE hook, when it doesn't take a lot to beef up the nose cone to take aerotowing loads.!!
@JimWalsh-rl5dj6 жыл бұрын
Veryy good! But why do gliders have an AH? I flew gliders and spent many years teaching both ppl and cpl. When doing to old Silver C conversions, I would take a glider pilot into cloud deliberately and over 95% would be in a very upset attitide very quickly. If you are not curent instrument flying, leave it on the ground, flying in IMC without pratice gives you about 90 seconds of life
@michaelderflinger50024 жыл бұрын
With cloudflying license and the right instruments you are allowed the fly into the clouds. But otherwise only VMC, so far i know.
@JimWalsh-rl5dj4 жыл бұрын
@@michaelderflinger5002 Indeed, you can take a cloud climb but I have almost 1500hours gliding and 15,000 on an ATPL. My observation was that, a lot of glider pilots mistake ambition for ability
@PureGlide10 ай бұрын
@@JimWalsh-rl5djA lot of gliders have an AH as an emergency tool incase of accidental cloud flying. We often fly near and around clouds, a lot closer than power pilots, so it can happen.

That's odd. The FAA manual says to turn right after release, not left. Are you in the UK? Or maybe this is something you hash out with the pilot before you go up?
@gerryfletcher46865 жыл бұрын
Yep, in the UK we turn left on release. And just to be different, we drive on the left as well!
@orangegherkin34207 ай бұрын
This isn't a blanket policy in the UK - the separation method is agreed with the club and each club has different rules often for noise abatement procedures and airspace lines, for example the London Gliding Club turns climbing left and the tug is a falling right turn to more easily avoid built up areas.
