Just watched 'Part 1' again and found it a bit scary - just bought a share in a Standard Cirrus (belly hook and all flying tailplane) and not done an A/T in it yet. This video is a bit more reassuring!

That's odd. The FAA manual says to turn right after release, not left. Are you in the UK? Or maybe this is something you hash out with the pilot before you go up?

Yep, in the UK we turn left on release. And just to be different, we drive on the left as well!

This isn't a blanket policy in the UK - the separation method is agreed with the club and each club has different rules often for noise abatement procedures and airspace lines, for example the London Gliding Club turns climbing left and the tug is a falling right turn to more easily avoid built up areas.
