Damn, even back then he was killing it 0:46. Menikmati was my first video, so Rodrigo Teixeira has always had a special place in my heart. His part was absolutely mind-blowing. Him and Bastien Salabanzi were two dudes back in the early 2000's who I remember really standing out in my mind as pushing skateboarding to a new level in terms of tech, gnarliness and style all together. Seems Salabanzi gets more recognition these days, but TX definitely deserves it, too.

At the 1989 CASL finals in Reno , Nevada , I met Daniel Castillo and Daniel introduced me to Gabriel. I was nobody , and I was already well aware of who they were because of skate videos at the time. Gabriel was still an amateur at the time, and I think that he may have won the CASL contest . I know that Tommy Guerrero won the pro competition. I was in awe at that contest as i watched all of my heros of the time , skate the street course . Caballero, Tommy G , Jim Thiebaud , Ronnie B, Mike Caroll , I could go on forever...

I saw him skating through the streets, late 90s. The thing that I’ll always remember is how FAST he skated. He wasn’t doing anything crazy, a kickflip if I remember correctly. But even a kickflip off a curb bump at that speed was gnarly. Legend.
