Wow, this look was really good, this shirt with the opening at the top and strings combined a lot, I really liked it.

Traditionally, in the 18th century the great plaid had a section of plaid left over, after hand pleating it, which was part of the plaid and hung down the back that was twisted and brought up over the back. Including over the back of the shoulder and pinned to the center of the front of the shoulder with a tartan pin. The great plaid was all one section of tartan, not two sections as seen in the video. I believe the great plaid is still worn the same way, today as it has been for hundreds of years. In my opinion, the kilt in the video looks more like a movie version , of someone trying to put together a philibeg and tartan scarf and give the impression of what a traditional great plaid should look like.

since this video is still up i can assume the company is also. i have a question...what is the very dark blue or black kilt? as well as the saffron solid colour. R.S.V.P.
@TartanKiltsByScotweb6 жыл бұрын
Hi Julie, We're most certainly still here! Can you clarify where it is that you're seeing a very dark blue/black kilt and the saffron solid colour? The only instance where those colours are seen in this video is the jacket worn with the kilt. Are you perhaps referring to a different video you've seen on our channel?
@julietolis19186 жыл бұрын
YES perhaps it was elsewhere. but you may be able to help me. i would like to perhaps get a full kilt for my grandson. he is 10. he has told me of finding the solid colors. my family name is Brennan and this young man has such an interest.
@TartanKiltsByScotweb6 жыл бұрын
Hi Julie, We would be more than happy to help with that! We frequently have customers order kilts for their children or grandchildren. Since this would be something specific to you and your grandson, would you kindly please give our customer service team a ring at +44 131 452 8356 or email us at [email protected] ? We'd love to explain your options to you and make sure the young man looks distinguished!

This video is only confusing people. It's the Irish clan tartan. The Kilkenny clan tartan is very different.

This is not Irish... Ireland has solid kilts, this is totally Scottish and should not be considered as Irish. Don't get me wrong this looks all nice, but not the true Irish culture. My last name is Murphy, as much as I wish it does look this, way, sadly it's not. =)

The Irish do have tartans. The nation as a whole does, as do the provinces, and each county. All official tartans.

Ireland has tartans too you know? Universal ones aren't the only kilts we have😂

@@WannabeMarsanach Perhaps, but Irish certainly does not have plaid which is what I was implying.

@@WannabeMarsanach I know they do as well, but it's not the culture of the Irish, as much as I wish it was, they do not wear plaid, Irish are supposed to be solid kilt colors.

How do Scots feel when then they see an American wearing a kilt? Would he/she be offended because the American is not Scottish and has no business in a kilt or would they feel that the American in a kilt is showing respect?

It's so funny how uncoordinated and gangly you feel when you don the kilt for the first time, but after a while it's practically as easy to put on as a pair of trousers.
