If you take the spark plugs out first, you will fid it easier to turn the crank over by hand as you are not having to overcome the compression.

Looking for advice. I have an old gravely zt40 with a Kohler courage 17 and I want to install my grandmother's really old low hour 20hp Briggs and Stratton from her riding mower. Is this compatible?

Great Video. Newbie here on mower engine swapping. How do you determine engine compatibility for these? I've got an older Gravely 44Z.
@TCMOutdoors
@TCMOutdoors 2 жыл бұрын
My main concern was the engine wiring harness compatibility and shaft size for the original pulleys but mostly because I was trying to use only parts on hand for that project as I recall. It's been a long time since I made this video but the mower is still going strong

You say you do not have a oil can ??? i have about 6 of them for different types of lube, yes RTV means Room Temperature Vulcanizing , just so you know... it can get into you oil system and plug it up... but if you use the sealer called Three Bond 1184A100G/BC-US Gasket sealer it will not flake off and get stuck in the oil system it will break into super small pieces and get caught in the oil filter, unlike RTV which will stay together and block the oil system and have a blockage,,, this happen on my motorcycle engine the lifters were getting no oil someone use way to much RTV and it blocked off the oil not good...

What kind of grease did you use?
@TCMOutdoors
@TCMOutdoors 2 жыл бұрын
any non marine grease is fine. marine grease seems to not break down enough and the axles tend to pull themselves out when the suspension is fully extended

I’m working on trying to waterproof everything on my new 2022 Brute Force 750. I was considering doing the same thing with dielectric grease but I can see how the marine grease could stay in place longer. I even thought of running a bead of silicone around the outside of the seam after it’s closed. Something is making my BF run horrible after I go through any water or mud higher than my diffs. I’m sure it’s being slung up higher on something though.

I have a friend that has been chasing the same issue with his brute force 750. as far as the marine grease I am still water tight and I Have not opened my belt box since this video was recorded. I used to silicone my belt box until i realized it wasn't necessary for my application

The 4 is just less convenient because it's not waterproof and doesn't have image stabilisation but you can correct both these without too much difficulty by modification to a waterproof case and fix the majority of shaking through video editing software so it's really a convenience issue. If it's cheap enough I'd still consider the 4 maybe the black edition though with the slightly higher resolutions... But you can't really go wrong with the 7.

where did you get the bolts for the bypass tube?
@TCMOutdoors
@TCMOutdoors 2 жыл бұрын
the ones I installed on the new pump housing? If so they were the original bolts I saved from the previous time in there. The ones I removed in this video were from when the old housing was stripped and I had to drill and tap a larger bolt into the old housing. I hope this answers you question.

Some belt manufactures say do not use break cleaner they say to use alcohol or acetone to clean the clutches
@TCMOutdoors
@TCMOutdoors 2 жыл бұрын
I use Brake cleaner because it evaporates fully and you will notice I blow everything off and clean the belt before installation. I have been doing this for years and has never been an issue. This is the same way the dealers clean clutches as well. I learned this method from a Polaris master tech.

The only reason I dropped the tank is because I couldn't tilt my bed. I would recommend tilting the bed to access the top of the tank. That route takes me about 30 min to change a fuel pump. Lmk if you need details
