FANS WHO APPRECIATE😮 A OF OLD FASHIONED BIFF IN OUR GAME, GREETINGS TO ALL. Who out there has ever seen the movie "This Sporting Life"‽ Say 'I' if you.. It's Rugby League through and through, and definitely worth you time. It's 1960s England,, the scenes recorded with a potato or whatever the film industry had back then, wet and foggy in black + white, and you feel the chill of mid winter., a love doomed to fail, and it's kitchen sink art nuvo with great on field action .

Amazing to look back on this and compare it to today’s game. I enjoyed watching it then and fascinated to see it again now. But it’s a great example of how the game was allowed to get out of control. Bowden did the job that was expected of him at the time. Broadhurst was up for it and did the same. That said, I’m very happy that head butts didn’t make it out of the 80s. That part was tough to re-watch.

I was sitting on the wall behind the Sharp audio hoarding and it was my first rugby league game. I loved it. Strength and fitness was evident from the Aussies. We were very much part time and it showed. Would’ve liked to have seen Woodsy start and more support play. Outstanding performance by Australia , got me hooked on RL👍

In Rugby League the ball is passed by hand -- Anyone can do that -- Soccer is great for a team of circus jugglers.

In "soccer" they spend more time pretending to be hurt. They wouldn't last the first set of tackles in a men's game.

@@jzkramer I think the issue was more with northern hemisphere vs southern hemisphere interpretation of the rules (and some slight variations). Head shots, lying on the man and holding them down after the tackle, hands all over the ball after the tackle was called were an accepted part of the northern game, but quick play and more "expansive" entertaining were the norm for southerners. This guys main fault was he appeared to penalise one team for one thing, but let the others get away with it, and picked something else for the other team to get away with (in this game, slowing the game down was allowed by GB, knock-ons were OK for Aus) He's also an amateur, a postman not a professional or semi professional like Australia or UK, as such he did a decent job. Was severely let down by the touch judges as well. Now I'd argue we've gone way too far in "speeding up the game" and making all the tackling as safe as possible, turning the game into glorified touch football.

Scrums Souths 16 13. Penalties Souths 13 11. Four tackle rule. Leather football in the rain. Extremely high error count. Very little continuity of play considering a lot of international players past present and future involved. Souths 13 8.
