This was the only live game of league I ever went to see!

It was always amusing when Manly lost (or were losing) on a Channel 7 game and Rex got more and more flustered as the game went on. It must have been extra galling losing to Norths and being coached by a former (Manly) team-mate.

Great vid. Although Wests cruised through in the 2nd half, 1st half was touch and go and Wests missed easy goals. Why would they have Rowles kicking when they had Giteau who has far better accuracy and distance?

Rex doesn't sugar coat things.
@werl789Күн бұрын
Commentating is piss weak. Even after the crystal clear slow motion replay, Rex says: "Well, I think that's a bit of a mix up, that one". There's no mix up. Kneen & Dane used forearms to the head. Foster was seriously injured by Kneen.

Souths a bit limited in ability at the time, lucky to win the premiership, but good enough to beat the clown show that was Saints in 1967. I was at the match standing at the back of the Noble Stand with my schoolmates, even though my team wasn’t playing, far from impressed at what I saw. Thoroughly enjoyed this upload though; thanks for posting!

It's good too. Instead of voiceovers and colour commentators overloading us with stats.

Saints greatly disliked playing under Kevin Robert’s No38 Chris Guider - the only player since 1908 to play 3 grand finals in one day (1985)

I preferred the old footy, especially when the NSWRL was exclusively a Sydney based competition. Thanks for posting this video.

This is the Under 23's Grand Final of 1987 , not Presidents Cup . Presidents Cup was actually Under 21's .

Manly's Harvey could easily have been sent off also at 53:54. He comes running in and deliberately elbows the defending Gerrard in the face and flattens him. Neither player is anywhere near the ball. The crowd and Rex picked up on it immediately. But not the ref or linesmen ... Also Eadie facilitated Price's send off with great acting. 34:44

Dogs and Dragons had some good games, in the early to mid 90's. Martin Bella played good minutes for his size, kept trying his best. How crap was the line marking.

Murray's selection was the DEI hire of the 80's, we had to include 2nd rate Queensland players to keep the morons north of the border happy, there were seven (7) far better half backs playing first and second grade in NSW and they select a 3rd grade Queensland player and true to form the Queensland selections were always the weakest link in Australian chain, it was just pathetic to watch them wear a jersey they never earned. Not long after this I stopped playing and watching the game, it's now such a gay game that soccer players are harder men and far tougher than the current rugby league players.

The worst Australian team for decades with too many ordinary Queensland's and also Ross Conlon

Thanks for this video. Gary Freeman cost Balmain many a game. His send off by tackling a play without the ball was horrendous .

What an amazing outcome after Souths had 3 players off. A team that was so lacking in discipline as that though were unfortunately never going to win the premiership in '86.

So, Phil Gould on the sideline was "tickled pink" to see the the Panthers reach the minor semi, if he only knew what their jerseys would look like a couple of decades into future.. haha...The usual dustbowl of the '80's footy field , another massive game from Paul taylor, the try saving -cross cover defence at lethal speed from the Guru , the superb kenny -Ella magic, some super dodgy passes from the Eels that would have been no try's today, The Crow , missing sitters and popping sideliners bringing the house down,..and then came..The Bulldogs...sigh....thanks for that mate.

Retro rugby league can you put up western suburbs magpies last NRL match and Wests vs manly 1978 when manly went to Lidcombe oval and Newtown vs Canterburys 1982 game where both teams scored 0 points in a draw

Peter Wynn a vastly over rated player I was surprised Parra results 81 -86 . They had great backs , but a weak forward pack . Gibson knew this and used his backs beautifully Their forward were either over weight / unskillful / too small and a thug in Ray Price. They were regularly pushed off the ball in scrums Mark Laurie was a good player . From Timbertown land, Wauchope Saints Rex Terp was also from Wauchope (inner port Macquarie)
