I'm disabled and receive benefits and am no longer ashamed of it and I will no longer allow people to make me feel like less of a person because of it. Even just two or three generations ago, people like me would have been locked away in institutions and subjected to lifelong abuse or simply left to die young. It's only very recently in human history that disabled people have been given even a modicum of respect by society. And for much of pre-welfare British history, we have had many societal pitfalls (crime, unemployment, urban decay) even without the money going to people like me, and those same problems persist today. Obviously 'parasites' like me aren't the main problem.

if the UK looked at what Canada does, it would fail. they put PWD in work programs and employers don't want to pay us money, so the programs make deals with employers to pay us for less than 20 hours a week and pay the rest of the wage in gifts. None of us can get off benefits because of that.

I've been in chronic pain since covid hit. I'm a healthcare assistant and have now had to go long term sick. I'm faced with going in front of a judge in magistrates court soon to prove I have osteoarthritis and fibromyalgia plus spinal deformities and knee conditions.

Patients by the thousand are harmed and and/or killed by doctors and the medical system. The healthcare system in England and all of the US is broken beyond repair.

I had to stop working in 2008 after working for over 25 years and never claiming any benefits before. Between ESA and DLA/PIP I have had about ten assessments. Out of those only one was completely truthful, every other assessor lied multiple times on the forms they completed for the DWP. As I always received some benefits I was scared to appeal for the benefits I was entitled to in case I lost everything, and they count on this fear. Amongst other heath problems I have complex spinal problems and in the beginning only a specialist doctor could assess me, however, the last three assessors I have had have been a nurse, a physiotherapist and a paramedic! None of them had even heard of some of my health problems and I had to spell them for them! How on earth are they qualified to assess me? I suppose I am "lucky" in that some of my conditions show up on an MRI and it's impossible to argue against that really but many people have no visible signs to prove their health problems and have to suffer embarrassing accusations, disguised as questions, every time they are assessed. IF someone has irrefutable proof via MRIs, X rays and/or blood tests they should never need to be assessed after the initial claim. This would free up staff at Atos and save money to ensure more qualified assessors are employed to assess claimants rather than the bottom rung of health "professionals" they currently employ. The whole system is flawed with those who know how to fake illness, especially mental health problems, managing to claim everything - whilst the people most in need, often through lack of knowledge of the benefit system, can not access the benefits to which they are entitled.

My friend with multiple sclerosis who is in a wheelchair was told her wheelchair wouldnt fit through the door of the assessment room door. So she got out and crawled into the room on her hands and knees. The report then stated "the claimant doesnt need her wheelchair as she could get in and out of the room without it". Utter scumbags.

My mum tried to claim after having a heart attack and refused, she had to go back to work and struggled she then had a massive heart attack and blew a hole in her heart and she died , I understand they have to check for people who are fiddling the benefits but come on x

ATOS ARE LIARS!!! Always have been and always will be. Presenting official documentation as the absolute truth and yet you're looking at reports full of nothing but bullsh*t. Treating truly disabled ppl like scum and forcing them into a court battle to get the actual truth shown and the required support to help them through their daily difficulties. I ended up with a Crown Court Judge at the stage where she wanted to burn the ATOS report itself. She was disgusted with what was written about me. Decision was full support category, leave him alone. The stigma attached by the public who aren't diabled is pretty gross too.

I hurt my back and couldnt walk and mri revealved degenerative disc disease, severe spinal arthritis from my neck down the spine and through my hips. Crushed and buldging discs and all the doctors and surgeons I went to adked for my disability paperwork. I didnt have any, I wanted to be fixed, I wanted them to offer therapies, surgery, a pill, a shot, anything. Im 40 yrs old with kids and a life, sitting around getting worse and more imobile everyday is not a life goal for me. I was in pain. My endocrinologist put me on phentermine to force weightloss and gave me a load of youtube physical therapy videos and a meal plan and in 4 months I dropped 60lbs and my pain levels decreased dramatically and I got my mobility back. I cant lift the weight I used to and never will but I can work and enjoy life again and all it cost was $25/month for 4 months worth of meds and free PT and a doctor who wanted to help me instead of sign me up for government programs. My MRI shows massive degrading and arthritis but that doesnt mean I have to give up and live in pain. I have pain pills for the horrible days when I just cant but with the right education and help more people can stop suffering and get on with life. Doctors need to start helping patients instead of assuming they are looking for a benfits package. Give us the tools we need to get better whether its therapy or surgery or meds. This whole your fine/not fine full stop is ridiculous. We all live in grey areas, no one matches or follows the same exact cookie cutter paths. Its not all or nothing. If you can work part time you should get help for the other part. If you can work 3/4 you should get 1/4. All or nothing is ridiculous.

I had to attend and take this test. I had to travel 46 mile to the centre, a round journey 92 miles. Why! could I not have attended the nearest centre 14 miles away. Ask why! I didn't use an mobility scooter I told them I did not wish to be classed or branded as a reckless F1 driver. Also you see me as I am. The struggle to put a Motability scooter into a vehicle, having then to get it out sit in it then to be ask to get out of it for a few second's, so you could watch me walk People who suffer from Anxiety, drug users, alcoholic are not disabled. They can walk and do all for themselves. My examination was carried out by a Ward NURSE not a professional or qualified doctor/GP.

i had a neighbour who lived on the sick , claimed blue badge etc , bad back apparently . it was all fake, i saw him putting a greenhouse up , numerous swimming pools and even digging out a pond. even heard him laughing about how stupid the system is. every time i see a blue badge now i think its probably just someone faking it? they always seem to be nicer cars than i can afford
