You bring up a lot of interesting points as to the benefits of adapting a stage musical for film, even if I do vehemently disagree with almost everything you said. It was definitely a different perspective. So many things were lost in an attempt to cut corners for the film adaptation, most importantly being the complexities of Heidi and Evan's relationship and they compare to Connor and Cynthia's relationship. Cutting "Anybody Have a Map?" and "Good For You" rob the film of so much depth and it feels like they did nothing to supplement that. Understanding the benefits of film as opposed to the stage, I really would've loved to see an expansion of Connor's character and relationship with his parents, similar to what was explored in the Arena Stage production with "A Little Bit of Light" and the never-included but demo'd song "In the Bedroom Down the Hall." The medium of film would've lends itself better to sequences taking place in the past. "Dear Evan Hansen" (2021) just feels like such a missed opportunity. Instead of trying to cut corners but still recreate the stage version, they should've gone the route of the novel and used the benefits of the medium (film in this case as opposed to literature) to expand the story and create something that can stand on its own while keeping the spirit of the source material.
