I first bonded with this music through a record by Narciso Yepes. I like hers just as much if not more. Petra is a marvel.

Petra plays the Ciaccona as skillfully and beautifully as we know it from her. As this was a life recording, there appears to have been some restrictions regarding microphone positioning. The recording engineer didn't know her/his job, resulting in ambience sound pickup only, muffling the whole thing and even having picked up, what appears to be the sound of rain on the roof of the venue. Even with microphone positioning restrictions, choice / availability of the right microphones (...yes, I know, VERY expensive) and correct positioning of them adhering to the restrictions (i.e. out of sight of cameras) would have resulted in a much clearer and more transparent recording of Petra's rendition. Pity, Petra really deserves better sound engineering.

I am sorry, but this kind of comments drives me nu**... it's a 12 years old live recording, what technique we had back then. If you want a better quality video go to Guitars International KZbin channel and search my Chaconne video there made by a profi.

So far, I have two favourite guitarrists when I want to listen to this beautiful Sonata, Antonio López Palacios, an excellent musician, and Petra Poláčková. What a beautiful technique!

This is as far as the guitar can get, when it comes to Romantic. The most amazing thing about Petra Poláčková (and she has oh so many) is definitely her phrasing. Here and there (and mostly in the celebrated Ständchen) she literally grabs the music from the hands of Franz Liszt, to give it back to Schubert and make it sound like a song again. And hey, Mertz did a decent work, too :)

Merci infiniment pour m'avoir permis de ressentir la musique de ce grand homme tel que je la sens. Une musique empreinte de délicatesse, de profondeur, d'amour du monde du son tel que pouvaient le ressentir ces grands compositeurs baroque. In all respects a marvelous musical and guitaristic approach to the work of this great composer who was Silvius Leopold Weiss. Thank you so much for allowing me to feel the music of this great musician as I feel it. Music imbued with delicacy, depth, love of the world of sound as these great Baroque composers felt.
