i disagree i had a hiboy s2 and the main difference I notice is this scooter actually accelerates fast enough to keep you from getting run over by cars. even in sport mode that thing crawled away from a stop. also this one is fast enough to get me down the road and into my complex without wreckless cars riding on my bumper.

Hello, I am getting the Class of '81 Deluxe cabinet, and I'd like to swap out the joystick during the assembly. Do you know if your instructions will be different for the newer deluxe cabinet? Apparently, the control panel and the monitor are 1 unit, so I'm concerned that the install might be different. Also, do you recommend swapping out the buttons too, or just the joystick? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Have a stock SF2 Championship Edition Arcade 1UP cab. My buttons are crapping out on the player 1 side so I ordered a Sanwa stick and Sanwa buttons. Still waiting on the buttons in the mail. But I put in the stick at the time of this comment. I reused the 1UP faceplate and put it on the Sanwa stick per the video. My stick came with a 5 point connector with open wire ends, but I didn’t need to order the wiring harness separately I was able to re-use the wiring harness on the stock stick. Play tested it and everything seems to be working fine and the Sanwa stick is much more responsive. Can’t wait to get the buttons.

I have the Pong head to head, because the games are full screen, which is good with my low vision challenges. You're spot on, about the height. I've temporarily put it on a 3" set of furniture risers, and have just ordered a set that'll take it all the way to 8", which should make it much more comfy to either stand, or sit at, on stools. I was concerned when A1up failed to show up at one of the more recent CES shows. Hope that's not a bad omen. I'm amazed they've hung on nearly half a decade, now. And yes, I agree, the serious fans need to start realizing these products are improving, and at some point, it becomes unfair, and unreasonable to seek these products for half their retail. We really do need to start rewarding them for hard work, and attention to detail. Sure, sales are fine, but half off, is just being unreasonable in this day, and age. Was fine, for the earliest cabs, though. But, yeah, whom else is cranking out so many DIFFERENT cabinets, which are looking more, and more authentic, these days, and making them available in retail outlets? Thanks for the review. :)

I think the day’s of new titles are over, Arcade1Up will keep on releasing Pac Man, Golden Tee, Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat until they go out of business. I’m hoping I’m wrong. Maybe New Wave Toys will start making a version of a Deluxe, XL or maybe a full size cab. They might be the better option for new titles.

I've only just bought my first Arcade1up cab the SF2 Big Blue. Like many people, as much as I would like to collect, I don't really have the space for multiple cabs. Realistically I could find space for 2 in my home but no more. For me they should be all on a unified platform with the ability to buy and add games. This could be done over the air via the internet, with the storefront available on the cabinet or even on the companion APP. The game choices could be limited to certain cab designs and hardware. This could allow more niche titles to be added and even modern arcade inspired indie titles. To me this is a no brainer as people are already cottoning on to the ability to modify android based cabs, so why not cash in on the desire to add more games. They could even sell kits to modify cabinets with new artwork as another revenue stream.

I'd love to see them just sell their remaining cabinets. I like the size as I don't have much display space. I ended up replacing everything but the full DMD. Used some old PC components from my box of crap to put in an ATX mobo with a decent GPU inside the cabinet and replaced static backglass with a real LCD monitor, and replaced the 24" stock playfield with a 32" LCD so now I can run all my pinball arcade/FX3/FX/VPX tables with Pinup Popper as a frontend. Loving it! I would absolutely buy some empty/near empty cabs from Arcade1up if I had the chance and just do the same again with PC components as bare cabinet kits from other vendors cost more than I paid for the full Arcade1UP product out of the box. No headaches or licensing issues on their part, just sell those cabinets. I'm not a giant, but at 6'2" I've been very pleased with feel and form factor of my Attack from Mars cab I modded. Thanks for the update on what's up.

I think 7 inch legs are way too much tbh. I bought some brushed nickel round legs (4 inches) and apart from looking much classier, the viewing angles have to be better than at 7 inches. Even at only 4 inches, the viewing angle doesn't seem right.

I think that re-releasing the same 3 Cabs over and over again was a big mistake in the long run. The Standard and Pro Models didn't help, either. From my Perspective i'd like them to release one Cab with all let's say ~50 games combined from the big three. It should be a Pro Model and i would buy it for maybe $700? One can dream.... 😅

You hit the nail on the head. The fact is Arcade1up/Tastemakers wants to be the Apple of home arcades by selling thousands of cabs to consumers in the retail market on impulse buys. That business model was only successful short term. It is unrealistic and unsustainable long-term. You can only keep going back to the well selling Pac-Mans so many times before consumer interest wanes and declines. The fact is this is a niche market. Arcade1up needs to readjust their business model to that niche market. Take a look at New Wave Toys and Numskull who continue to get licenses and produce niche cabs and are still successful albeit on a smaller scale. Arcade1up needs to go direct to consumer and they can sell niche cabs in limited edition runs like those companies do. If they don’t evolve their business and marketing strategy and adapt to their niche customer base they will surely go out of business like iiRcade before the year’s end. They have made no announcements, have no new products and their Radio Silence speaks volumes about the state of the company. If they don’t put something out quick they might as well close up shop.

Hey UC, you make some really good points here! I agree that we probably will not see niche arcade titles in the near future. I wonder if it's time to start picking up older cabs that are still available and not a Capcom, Midway, or Namco cab. In the current state of A1Up, I wonder once Golden Axe or Tron sells out, if we'll ever see them released again.

My brain is burning calories watching this video thinking of what Arcade 1Up can do too haha Wonder if the new owners' end game is to sell to like a Microsoft (or more realistically a Wayfair?)
@UnqualifiedCritics
@UnqualifiedCritics 7 ай бұрын
Wayfair's an interesting idea! Microsoft I really doubt it, they're buying companies in the billions of dollars to try to drive impact for Xbox (and even that working is still TBD - I say that as an Xbox fan). Arcade1up wouldn't drive meaningful impact.

Great topic. I think going back to the swan shape as a standard may save cost but hurt demand because a lot of us buy for the nostalgia at least as much as playing the games, and the swan was less arcade accurate. But, I think the answer is to keep using retailers for the Pac-Mans and Street Fighters, and for the more niche cabs that might not sell as many units, A1Up needs to improve their direct-to-consumer business. Don't retailers markup what, 50% or so from wholesale? Cutting them out means all the profit stays with A1Up, which means they don't have to sell as many cabs, which means they can afford to pay the manufacturers more for making lower quantities of each cab. And those of us in the hobby don't need to see a cab in a store to buy it. I noticed over the holidays that A1Up was selling SF2 Deluxe and Galaga Deluxe through Spreetail which is a logistics distributor of some kind (they were the marketplace seller on Amazon and Walmart.com). Those cabs did not have the glossy boxes that would draw your attention in a store, and those cabs were not sold in stores. So I wonder if A1Up was beginning to explore how to expand their direct-to-consumer business.

It's so difficult and impossible for A1Up to get licensing for House Of The Dead 2, but Retro Shooter can put it out with many more shooter titles for almost 3 times cheaper than A1Up.

@UnqualifiedCritics 7 ай бұрын
Licensing almost definitely is not yhe issue. Its limited sales volume on a dedicated cab for a niche title when they have to order several thousand minimum from the factory. And thats assuming retailers will order it from them

@UnqualifiedCritics As far as limited sales, A1Up did it to themselves. None of these cabs should of been put out with a $700 price tag. "Should I pay $699 for this cab I want now or wait for the $299 blow out sale?" That's where we are all at with these now.

it’s cuz the software development & support is the most expensive new cost. so they just re-release the same software packages in different boxes over & over. no new development costs, just new stickers costs. last few years more & more multiplayer games been coming out with no online play. i think it’s for cost reasons.

It's obvious A1up can't possibly keep on making unique cabinets beyond what they've offered us. I think the solution is for them to maybe, as you say, make a set of IP based shaped cabinets, with access to an online store, similar to iiRcade, but go one step further. A1up could come up with a module which owners of existing cabs could install, that would allow them access to an online store, from which titles which are compatible with their particular cabinet could be downloaded to. This would allow A1up to move forward without having to worry so much about innovative new cabinets they can't afford to have produced, and which retailers likely won't want to add to their inventory. Thanks for bringing this up.
