Corelli‘s version is the best I have heard although in Live performance, perhaps because it comes so early in the opera, he seldom if ever sang the written high C in the aria & we all know how nerves often got the better of him. He is not alone here. The relative safety of the recording studio provides the welcome safety net. Merli, another full spinto tenor is my #2 choice & his version was also a studio product & as that ambience is concerned this remains the NORMA that means the most to me.

Parece que es una grabacion diferente a una qué tengo y es muy diferente por el gong que es muy diferente y espectacular por el gran sonido diferente a otras grabaciones con directores diferentes. Estoy de acuerdo que es la versión mas esplendida y única en la voz de este inmenso gran tenor spinto heroico, Franco corelli y con éste gran director que supo crear una atmósfera orquestal y sonido volumen para enmarcar la espectacular interpretación de franco corelli, y hasta pareciera que hubiera nó cobrado por dirigir esta gran ópera y elenco. Inmenso Franco, el mejor tenor de todos los tiempos y más allá.

I regret not having known his singing during his prime. I came to know him when he traveled with the 3 Tenors and that was late in the game. At least youtube means he continues to live among us.

Pavarotti continued to be amazing even as he aged. His performances of Nessun Dorma in the 1990’s can still give one chills. But there are differences in his more youthful performances. When he was younger, such as here in 1972, near the end, when he sings “Dilegua, o note!” he would really nail that entry, really pounding “dilegua.” In later years, he still hit the note right, but it was less strong until “o notte.”
