Hey so my keys been working fine for nearly 2-3 weeks now and all sudden Today it’s acting up again where as sometimes the sensor on the door won’t unlock cause of the key battery went low again and sometime while driving it will come up key not found it key battery low which is making it not lock the doors again I have to keep playing with it before it does it. I had both keys battery change 3 weeks again 😟
@BentleyOnABudget-mp8jj
@BentleyOnABudget-mp8jj 8 күн бұрын
Hey bud, sorry about that. Must have been stuck in the ether or my computer is just so tired it's not refreshing properly - one of the reasons I need people to become members is to update some tech and software - ;) Okay so you had them just 3 weeks and from memory this has happened a couple of times now. First thing to check is the voltage on the keyfob battery - you'll need a Multimeter set to DC Volts at a low range to do this. Don't worry we're only checking to see if the battery is way below 3 Volts. If it's flat or very low then several things are possible. 1. It was a bad battery thats been on a shelf for a long time or 2. The battery is being discharged by my grandson who has been creeping into your house and messing with everything (at least he does that to me) or for some reason the keyfob is being nuiscance discharged. This can happen when the buttons on a fob are weak and dont fully spring back into place after use. To tell if its this go to a dark room and see if the remote actuation light is glowing or dimly lit constantly afer use. If the battery is fine then you have a problem with the reciever or the kessy unit or possibly even the steering lock actuation system (this talks to the kessy unit and tells it you have permission to start the car) That's quite a common problem, but then so is old duff batteries. I would recommend that you have the car scanned, or even invest in VCDS from Ross-tech. You will be needing it and its always the best way to get clues about problems, especially intermittent ones like this. Hope that helps and I hope to welcome you to the tribe as a member of Bentley on a Budget. For $2.99 a month you can keep the channel going, get access to more detailed videos and get technical help like this (and much more) Nige

I have just (yesterday) replaced my Bentley key case using the same kit. I encountered the same learning points and so your video is a very fair and helpful guide. My original key (2007 vintage) has two lugs in the casing between which the PCB was located. The new key casing had the same but I had to trim 1mm off one side for a snug fit. I used a mini iPhone repair tool kit which really helped too. Use a bowl to hold all the bits!

Hi Nige - loving the series. I thought I could share my experience with you as a comparison: 2005 Continental GT Mulliner bought with 31,400 miles on the clock and backed up by a suitcase full of history. First owner for 16 years! I spent quite a lot to buy this low mileage car from a dealer so all I say about the purchase price was it was slightly north of £20k. I took this decision after looking at cars below £15k which were high mileage or a high number of owners with big gaps in the service history. So what have I spent on top since May 2024? Road tax £415 (pre 2006 prices are lower for now!) Insurance £829.11 plus £13 when I put a cherished number on the car Cherished W12 plate £399 Wheel repair (paid for by the selling dealer) £ 126 Wheel refurb (at the same time as the repair as there were signs of corrosion ) £54 CTEK MSX 7.0 charger and conditioner (same as the official Bentley one but without the logo!) £109.99 New battery (the big one) Yuasa AGM £171.75 Paint repair (rust bubble in corner of passenger door) plus having the car completely waxoil treated £868.80 Front brake pads - £79 I think. It may have been £49. I bought Febi Bilstein pads and did the job myself. Just like doing a Skoda! I seem to average about 13 mpg around town and 21 mpg on a long run but having only done about 1100 miles the cost of petrol is barely significant. COMING UP! I need 2 front tyres (and maybe 2 rears but not as urgent). I'm looking at between £252 & £281 per tyre. Will be fitted early January so I can update this list then. I also need an oil & filter change which I decline to do myself. I'm lucky to have a Bentley & Rolls Royce independent specialist just a few hundred yards from me where it will be done. Rear brakes. My plan is to do those myself. You need to turn off the e-brake via the OBD2 interface. I bought an OBD11 dongle which works well and contains all the VAG interfaces. This cost £51.79 and is a cheap way to monitor the health of your car. I would also recommend anyone buying one to get a carVertical report or equivalent to rule out expensive mistakes. So, without fuel, my spend so far is £2666.65. If i add in £560 for tyres and £250 for the oil change, the cost will be about £3500. Or what my MG HS Phev cost me each year in depreciation...

Hi Nigel, I found your video after seeing your comment on Samcrac's video. I like the video but thought I should give you some feedback, the 2 big advertising icons that are in the video at all times (top left and top right, one for yourself and one for Au) are really annoying and eventually I stopped watching because they were covering up the actual content. Just my 2 cents, take it for what it's worth.
@BentleyOnABudget-mp8jj
@BentleyOnABudget-mp8jj 25 күн бұрын
@TheRobman thank you very much mate. I appreciate your feedback. The AU icon was on one video only. The Bentley On a budget is my own to make sure whoever steals my content advertises me in some way. I'll continue to use that one but will bear your kind comment in mind mate. Watch a few more and let me know what you think. I'm very new to this :)
@TheRobman
@TheRobman 25 күн бұрын
@@BentleyOnABudget-mp8jj perhaps you could use a watermark instead, that way it wouldn't completely block the content but would still be visible if someone did steal your content. I've not seen any other channels use anything like that, so is video theft a big concern? If you're stuck on having an icon on the screen, perhaps use something smaller. Try watching one of your own videos to see what I mean about it really messing with the viewing ability.

A great, and different way of looking at running a Bentley. So much more than 'just another car' and I agree fully that how it makes you feel is one of the biggest reasons to take the plunge. Indeed anyone who "applies common sense" not only won't buy a Bentley but in all honesty if they did they wouldn't enjoy the experience. When I bought my Rolls Royce Ghost my work colleagues thought I had lost my marbles. I had cashed in my pension as I was of the opinion the Tory government of the time was going to thieve a large chunk of my lump sum from me and so took it before they could. Now I had been saving into my pension at the maximum I could afford for many years and when I spent the whole lot on a Rolls I don't mind telling you it took some courage. However, as I pointed out to people ""when I sell it I will probably get 75% of the money back". Ironically when I did sell it I got back every penny I had paid out. Incredible. Nonetheless I have now been pondering a Mulsanne for 6 months (in between life's problems getting in the way) and 50% of me says "you only live once" while the other 50% of me says "can you really justify spending £60,000 on a car". First-world problems I guess, and even I don't know where this journey will take me.....

Great video and it is a great reflection of my own Bentley experience. As you say, you are never truly the owner, merely the custodian, and I wholeheartedly agree that you need to adjust the mindset about 'ownership' (or custodianship!) I have owned 2 Arnage, a 4.4 and a 6.75. The 6.75 almost bankrupt me yet the 4.4 proved to be faultless. Ironically I am currently contemplating a Mulsanne but there is always that niggling doubt about reliability...

@@BentleyOnABudget-mp8jj My 6.75 was a 2000 Arnage. In the year I owned it the following failed: Headgasket: £3,500 Water pumps: £1,500 Gearbox: £2,000 So I sold it, having lost any faith in its ability to do the shortest of trips. 2 years (and much research) later I bought a 1998 4.4 (BMW engine) Arnage. Ran it for 18,000 miles and it never missed a beat. Fast forward to 2020 and I treated myself to a 2010 Rolls Royce Ghost. I also ran this car for 18,000 miles and it also never missed a beat.

I'm in Canada & really enjoy your videos. Always wanted one of these & have owned 14 Rolls-Royces & Bentleys since 1976 but only pre BMW & VW models. Currently have an 89 Turbo RL owned for 5 years with 175000 KM & love it & it's pretty cheap to keep up. I drive it about 1000 Kilometers a year just to car shows & events. If driven about a 1000 KM a year do you think a 2008 or newer Continental GT will still cost lots to maintain? Thanks for any help.

@terrymurphy2637 Hi Terry and thanks very much for your kind words. One of the things people worry about most on the early Gen 1s (up to 2007) is the vacuum lines as they were routed over the gearbox up to that point but as far as I know they are much the same up until 2012 apart from that. If you have a friendly local VW/Audi specialist maintenance costs can be reduced by using them for work. I would budget for £2,000 p/a on repairs, another cheeky thou for servicing on average. Hope that helps Terry. For what it's worth I really rate the car and back in the day I was involved with a few Silver Spirits and a Bentley Turbo R. The RR quality is obviously better but the character of the GT makes up for it, actually suits it better.

Excellent timing! I am on the verge of buying an 08 plate GT Speed so it's good to see the possible pitfalls.
