Hi Graham, Allan Power Dive Tours have re-opened in Santo, Vanuatu. As well as offering dive tours, we are now constructing a family friendly dive resort that spans the entire 400 metres of beachfront in Banban where The Coolidge sank in 1942. Your footage is incredible and with your permission we would like to share it with our new guests and divers who are about to explore The Coolidge. We'd like to ask you back and come stay and dive with us for a week later this year. You can meet some of the old crew you dived with.

Hi there, what an experience it was diving the Coolidge, I would say it was one the pinnacles of 50 yrs scuba diving in Australian & the Southwestern Pacific Ocean areas, as a PADI Divemaster. Most certainly you can share my video with your new guests and divers who are about to explore The Coolidge. Constructing a family friendly dive resort that spans the beachfront in Banban where The Coolidge sank is a fabulous idea I would love to see it sometime. I really like the idea of coming back to Vanuatu sometime in the future the country & the people hold special memories of our time there. Good luck with your venture. Kind Regards Graham Webb

My father was the last Army soldier to disembark the Coolidge as it sank; because as a Captain, he was the highest ranking officer aboard. He died in 2008, which I believe was before the site was open for diving, and I can’t help but wonder how he would have felt seeing your footage. I was certainly deeply touched. Are you aware of what the crew went through after they swam to the then deserted island you launched from? It’s an extraordinary story… 🫡

I'm thinking about buying a Swanson 42, I can't find any information about her sailing / nautic performance anywhere. Would you buy her again? Please write me something about her as you can. Bad / good sides ... Thank you Greg
@sailn4u22 жыл бұрын
@@gregtattoo3068 Hi Greg sorry for this late reply but after owning & living aboard my Swanson 42 for 21 years & sailing in her for just over 42000nm they just don't make hulls like that today. She was professionally laid up in 1978 & the amount of fiberglass that went into that hull is amazing. She still is a blue water vessel today with us being in contact with the current owner who has just returned to Adelaide from a solo voyage to Tasmania. When we owned here we were not to concerned about the weight we carried in her but the new owner has lightened her up quite a bit. For us she was a great heavy weather vessel as well as in light conditions she needed a a good wardrobe of sails like a large mps with a snoot bag. We did re-power her with a second hand 90hp diesel but the current owner has not long fitted a new smaller diesel engine. She was a masthead cutter rig & I did a fair amount of single handed sailing in her over the years on the east coast of Oz. I did get to know a few other Swanson 42 owners over the years & all seemed very happy with their vessels

Nicely filmed, looks like a nice Island, however the beaches appear to be a bit crappy, if in fact there are beaches at all? Dont want to be critical, just asking?
@jasminflower38145 жыл бұрын
It is surrounded by bays and mangroves, not the ocean like on the east side of Stradbroke Island. So not a lot of "beaches" as such but there are some nice sandy alcoves around the islands.
