In the picky eating section, the way the I assume therapist would just give the girl a treat after she did what they wanted was dog training. If the young girl wasn’t malnourished, and was fine without eating chicken, that’s a preference. I don’t understand, why it was so important for her to like different foods?

I love watching videos like this and seeing the perspectives of other siblings like me. It often feels really lonely to be in this position, being the supporter of both our sibling and ALSO our parents, so it's comforting to know there are others going through the same struggles as you. Really wish there was an easier way for siblings of people with autism to connect with each other :)

Appreciate the diet video! My nephew has autism, and we've been using Planet Ayurveda’s Brahmi and Ashwagandha to support his mental focus and calmness. We’ve noticed a positive change in his behavior. If anyone know someone with autism, their herbs might be worth considering.

Interesting presentation to autistic me with dairy issues and possibly small intestine bacterial overgrowth (SIBO). I noted no mention of alexithymia where an autistic person isn't able to characterise their feelings, or difficulties with Interoception where we autistics don't connect so well connecting to our internal sensory systems. While I understand some simplification, these are common themes in autistic adult discussions.

This was a great presentation. Thank you so much for sharing! I have an interview for an RBT Position tomorrow, and I am trying to learn more about this strategy. I have worked with individuals with disabilities for many years, but I don't know a lot about ABA Therapy. This really helped me a lot. I appreciate your time and effort that it took to share this.

@@oddvegan9797 this can be true, but not always. Autism is a spectrum and it depends where you are in it. Some find it harder than others. It’s not something anyone can change though so acceptance and love from their families is one of the most important things there is.

Anecdotal, but I, with Autism&ADHD, have had no problems eating anything, and am the opposite of picky. One of my children has Autism-without ADHD, and is the child you described in the beginning of this presentation, overly picky, with extreme food demands. I feel that the ADHD adds something positive to my life, when paired with autism, and this shows up in many areas. (I grew up without, and have a different relationship with food, than my child does. When left up to me, I tend to eat the same exact thing every day, for weeks on end, until I find a new favorite food).

I have three kids with autism. I agree with each one being unique. My son also has ADHD. They use to go to ABA therapy when I was in the military and the company was great people. Since I am retired I have to pay for it and can’t afford it. I feel like I am failing my kids. It’s interesting I came across this KZbin channel. I don’t know if my phone is listening or what but I am glad it did lol.

are there ongoing research studies for what our population needs? I've been having a really hard living independently and feel like there is not enough help because I fall through the cracks, income too high for Medicaid, and I'm not 65 yet, but there are no alternatives? It's complicated to type it all out, but it's that just it, it's complicated! Doctors don't understand, there's not connection or clarity between what is "normal" age related decline vs other issues, so not getting help there either? It's just a vicious circle and there's no where to go for help! :(

This is one of the best podcasts I have listened to regarding diagnosis and how it can positively impact older newly diagnosed in our communities. Dr. Bal does a wonderful job outlining pros and cons of sharing one's diagnosis with others and how sharing might help immediate family as well as and the greater community. I can see how it might assist "orphan elders" of the baby boomer generation (and other generations going forward) find ways to connect with their "tribes" for more fulfillment and support to each others in the future and strengthen mental health outcomes for our elderly neuro-divergent in our communities. Together we are stronger. Knowing our history helps us shine a light to our future.

Howdy! I have a very serious case! I have a friend who is disabled, severely autistic with a personal assistant who suffers from bullying, for 15 years. Because of 5 brothers who are related to him (an uncle, abusive mother, and 3 aunts). One is 46 years old, the uncle is 45 years old, the second is 44 years old, his abusive mother is 43 years old, and the last one is 37 years old. And a drunken leader who is also always bullying him. They don't have the education that he has. He finished high school, passed his baccalaureate, and is now at college in Year 2 Management. And they still have the guts to bully him? What senseless people! His grandmother loves him very much and he loves her too. But they always have to yell at him. They know that he is different from them, that he is weak and has no way to defend himself. They always call the police to assault him, to laugh at him. It's not right what they're doing to him. They bully him on purpose to make him afraid of them. They always terrorize him, won't leave him alone, while he ignores them and he stays away from them. I am outraged by what is happening to him. He wants to fight back in the sense that he wants to sue the 5 agressive relatives or a friend of him(to sue them) who works with the Ministry of Education at the County School Inspectorate for what they are doing to him. He's going to send them proof of what they're doing to him. Recordings, filming. He no longer wants to be related to them because of the humiliations he endured all these years. He is 21 years old. They also have accomplices who do the same thing to him. He Really Needs Help. And he really believes and LOVES the Creator, God. They are possessed by the Devil. You really should believe me! He has suffered enough, he wants peace and a good life. He ignores them because he is scared of them, he is aware of what they are doing to him. He can't at all! He always hides when they come. I will try to help all disabled people to have a good life. He's going to leave them after college with his grandmother, for a better place. They tell him nonsense to lure him to their dark side. He was beaten by his mother's boyfriends. She didn't raise him. His grandmother raised him. She also torments his little sister who is not autistic. I'm going to help him and his grandmother, and the other families and the female dog, get out of pain and have a good life. His 6 Kindred are doomed and dangerous. Just write to me. They are allowed to mock a severed autistic person with personal assistent? To bully him that he's different, huh? I'd say, NO! They're not allowed. They don't care about him, they're using him for their dark goals. They're manipulating the other people to believe in them. I was crying when i saw his sad real story. He's been suffering enough. They're saying this to him ,,You are too big, to asist you in the shop, to buy, or to walk with you in the park". They're leaving him all alone in the park for the other people to bully him, instead these relatives on taking his side. This second husband of his mother, he humiliated him last year at the mountain in front of godparents of the husband. Instead on helping the kid to clean up, he shouted at him very hard, and he cried. Don't take their side, because he's suffered enough! They're equal to us, we don't have rights to mock them! I'm gonna fight morally for their benefits and good will.

The reduced longevity figure quoted here of up to two decades shorter is way out. The 2024 Lancet research report showed a reduced longevity rates was 6.5 years. For females was 8 years less. They also stated that these figures were possibly less {only 2-3 years less} if the data looked at larger numbers of diagnosed older people you get a pretty minimal longevity differences between them and non Autistic elders. Far too many older Autistic have missed a formal diagnosis. Quality of life for Autistic people is below what they should be. Services for older Autistics are very poor.

I became epileptic at the age of twelve, in 1987. I watched this video to see if I could have an association to autism from my epilepsy disorder. My seizures have been less frequent in these last five years, having four or five seizures per year, compared to having four or five per month--leading to my temporal lobe lobectomy in 2001.

I'm on the Autism spectrum, and hit puberty at about 8 or 9 years old, and started getting my period when I was 10. It might (not saying it is) also be a good idea to mention these changes to the younger siblings or children in your home. I know what you're probably thinking. "How do I explain to a child who is still at the age of princess dolls, superhero action figures, and two plus two (2+2), about more mature things, like their older sibling's changing body and hormonal moodiness?" Well, thankfully, you don't have to be too scientific about the explanation, but here's an example of how you can explain it. "Your older sibling's body and brain are going through a lot of big changes, and even though they might be feeling excited about all of the big changes, they might be feeling angry, sad, scared, or even embarrassed about them sometimes too. So even though your sibling still loves you just as much as they always have, they might not always be as patient with you as they've been in the past, because of all of the big changes, and the way they are making them feel."
