What accountants do with their free time. All seriousness aside.... This is the definitive American Jazz sound.. Just the best

I did not know anything about this event, stumbled upon only by chance; great one, indeed, but especially I was impressed by Beka's mastery! Emotionally it looks like he is trying going through a horizon, tries catching the uncatchable, or perhaps so playing with the impossible!

Wow! He is amazing. Grew up listening to his music on the Voice of America Jazz show hosted by Willis Conover in the 60s. Great to see him at his peak.

Magnificent orchestra in a sweet moment, with spectacular arrangements. The greatest thing for me is not only the mastery exhibited by all the musicians, but also the ability to move in tempos, all of them danceable, very difficult to interpret, that escape from vulgarity, particularly those that move between medium slow and medium fast, which gives a special flavor to the music. A beautiful example for young musicians. Congratulations for posting this fantastic video, also colored.

Did Mingus know Dolphy had not long to live? intuited it? is that why the piece is so named?
@danjameson15722 күн бұрын

I saw Bobby Jones with this Mingus band at the Village Vanguard. I had never heard of him and I understand that he was a walk on. The band was great although not the equivalent of the 1964 band with Eric Dolphy and Clifford Jordan that I saw at Town Hall. That would be asking too much.

Ahhh....the mastery of pulling the audience in at 3:35, just by lowering the volume and still delivering the power. Joe has always been my favorite drummer for his skill, his humility and his respect for his students and other professional drummers. I've never heard anything negative about him. I've watched "Take 5" many times on videos, in different settings and he always varies just a little in each but still delivers the heart of the song. It is obvious that for Joe, this was so much more than a job, it was a passion.
