Hi, thanks for your video. I'm finishing my basement and hate how the builders squish the flex duct. I originally thought I might find an automated controller that opens/closes the baffles off the supply side and I didn't see any, so the inline boosters seem to be the best choice with a relay.
@manabouthome17 күн бұрын
Be careful not to place the boosters above a finished or drop ceiling. That's called a plenum space, and I believe it would violate code to do that. Also, how could they be serviced in the future in a space like that? I'd look for an unfinished area to install them, where they're easily accessible. Check out my play list about my duct booster installation. You might find some useful information. Good luck with your project. Thanks for watching and commenting!

I wouldn’t even dick with these jerry rigg solutions. Tried that when I was younger and they always fail. Cut the flange off, weld in a replacement. Done. Can’t weld? Learn, it will pay dividends later in life
@manabouthomeАй бұрын
I have to disagree. This one lasted 7 years, through multiple cat-back installations. Works perfectly on solid pipe. I've been welding since 1980. It's silly to cut good solid pipe away, spending the money to get a flanged pipe, and weld it in... when all I had to do is clamp a flange like this on, and it stays solid long term (7 years). To say they always fail, just hasn't been my experience. My extensive experience has been that they never fail before the exhaust system fails in other areas and has to be replaced anyway. By the way, I could always weld this new flange onto solid pipe if I thought it was needed. But it's not. Thanks for watching and commenting.
@dickjohnson5025Ай бұрын
@ I wouldn’t buy a flange pipe and welded in. I would cut the flange out entirely and welded in a piece of pipe. There’s no need for the flange.
@manabouthome29 күн бұрын
To each his own. Why not publish a video about how you'd do it, to be helpful to others?
@manabouthome29 күн бұрын
Years after I installed that flange, I had to replace the entire cat-back system. That new exhaust pipe installs by bolting to that flange, which was still useable. If I had removed the flange and welded pipe in, like you would, I would have had to either cut the brand new flange off the new exhaust, or cut and weld a new flange to the pipe you suggested welding in. I'd have been annoyed that I was so short sighted as to do what you'd do. As it turned out, the way I did it was much better. All I had to do was bolt the new exhaust system in and go. Check out my video about installing that new stainless steel exhaust system in the Subaru. It was beautifully made and a perfect fit. Still in good condition and operating trouble free today... with a bolted on flange on the catalytic pipe. Thanks.

Liked your video on the seal replacements. Just one thing… when you put the piston on the threaded end on the rod and put on the threaded retainer, all you needed to do is put the rod inside the tube, put it to the other end then put a long bolt through the threaded hole ment for the hydraulic oil hose. Turn the entire shaft with a monkey wrench and the retainer nut threads on to the shaft and you can tighten it by turning the whole tube, the bold placed inside the hose hole with hold onto the piston end and you can tighten as needed. That’s what the hole is for in the piston threaded nut and retainer. BAlso should use lock tite on the threads. What was the count on the number of washers on each end on the piston rod. I had the same problem with too many washers and left one out.

Hi, I have a newer model Sears Craftsman air compressor than yours, model 919.152920 circa 1993, similar tank to yours. I would like to perform your test. The issue is, I cannot remove the manifold. Wish I could show you a picture of it. It's unique to the year I believe, a hexagonish part. It screws into the tank as a unit, and the size of the single top threaded tank hole is rather large. Almost an inch and a half approximately. I was wondering if I could perform the test, leaving the manifold in, plugging the holes and or attaching a higher rated pressure gauge to reach the 225 psi into the appropriate input and the power washer/ball valve into the input coming from the compressor into this manifold. Shouldn't the manifold also be able to withstand the 225 psi of the water pressure? Or if this wouldn't work, any suggestions for removing this particular manifold. Again wish I could show you a picture. Thanks
@manabouthomeАй бұрын
Yeah, it would be good if you could show me a picture of it. I can't vouch for the manifold being able to withstand that psi. It sounds like it should unscrew from the tank. My original Campbell Hausfield 13 gallon comperssor pin holed at 17 years old. The pin hole was not at the bottom but where the tank longitudinal weld met the end bell weld. When I cut the tank open, it was severly corroded with deep pits along the bottom. Where the pin hole was it was internally shiny. I had drained the tank every day. I replaced the compressor with a 30 gallon vertical Campbell Hausfield compressor in 2017. The new tank is rated at MAWP of 175 PSI. I test the tank using the grease gun methode every 4 years to 300 PSI and leave it there for 1 hour. When the tank is filled with water, it takes about 1-1/2 tubes of grease to build the pressure. It makes a hell of a mess internally, but leaves a protective coating.

Next time use the mains water pressure to fill it, the using a long 1" pipe with a grease nipple add grease with a hand grease gun. With this technique I got my tank from 80PSI to 350 PSI with no problems. I went 2x the rated pressure to be sure. I used Oxalic acid and filled the whole tank and soaked it overnight (200lt). I then used a Phosphoric Acid rust converter. I then sloshed a Zinc based paint around the inside of the tank. Get yourself an oil cooler and put it between the compressor and the tank with a water trap before the tank. That way. bugger all water then gets into the tank to start with. Have a good one mate.

@manabouthome2 ай бұрын
A heat pump is like a reverse air conditioner. So it's probably very similar. You're considering adding a duct booster to an air handling system, right? This will work if you have a good signal to use to control the relay... like the Electronic Air Cleaner (EAC) signal I was able to use. Look at the control board schematic to see if there's a EAC output. If so, what is its current (Amps) rating? Thanks for watching!

Good morning if I measure my exhaust with a digital caliper and it says 2.52 on the display, does that mean my exhaust pipe is 2.5 inches round outside diameter? I did not measure your way I just bought a digital caliper measuring tool. If I use the string I believe it's 8.25 the length of the string. I would really appreciate your help thank you
@manabouthome2 ай бұрын
A direct measurement like that is the best way to do it! That extra .020 at the end of your 2.52" measurement is only 20 thousandths of an inch. Yes, it's 2.5 inch diameter. Measure in three places around the diameter in case the pipe is partially crushed. If it's still "perfectly" round, then it's 2.5 inches. The circumference should be approximately almost 8". There are diameter to circumference calculators on line. And circumference to diameter. Just search for those in your browser. Thanks for watching and commenting!

@@jeff-f7g I don't think most people would use a digital caliper. They're really intended for more precision measurement. (A step down from micrometers.) It is a much better method than the string. I've shown myself using a mechanical caliper in one of my videos. And someone said he doesn't need "fancy ass" tools like that because he uses a string. Ok. Whatever! Calipers are better than string, any way you slice it. I did the string video because most people don't have calipers of any kind. Cheers.

At 12:11 in the video right above the button on your utility knife that opens the blade there's a hole drilled in the air filter cover. That hole is directly above the horn which brings air down into the carburetor. The reason I point this out is because I just drilled that very same hole in my air filter cover and it allows me to pour just a little bit of Primer Gas in there to help the mower start because otherwise she will just not start and it'll drain the battery for many many seconds without a little primer fuel to get her kick started. 😂

That's probably true. But, sheet metal ducts are the standard here it the Northeast. That's what this house (and every house I've ever lived in) is 100% piped with.
