Easily the best video I've seen on this topic since i got into paint pouring... I have a background in BOTH physics and chemistry, as well as being an artist my whole life, and this is exactly what i was looking for... I'll be watching a lot more of this to see just how deep you go, but this was amazing. I kept wondering why it was so hard to see people go down to first principles and address just the density and flow of the different products. It is hard knowing that each paint is different, but density seems to be by far the most important factor, yet we spend so much time analyzing just the viscosity or trace of the paints. Water is naturally so dense that that alone has to have as huge effect as to what will float. I hate just mixing a bunch of stuff as a guess just to see what happens without any intention. Much better thinking about WHY a certain ingredient will change the effects I'm getting. That's how to actually learn to CONTROL what I'm doing, even if there's some mystery in the results. As a photographer in my previous endeavors, i want to be able to play with the process in ways that are the right balance of predictable and inspired by chance! Cheers! Will definitely be following and commenting more here!

So sorry to hear that and hope things improve!!! Looks like you have a good following with this video. Question, what is the significance of Behr Marquee Interior Semi-Gloss Enamel, Deep Base, Untinted? I can’t find it in the store. Do you know what the equivalent would be?

The key to any deep base paint is to think of it as the medium that is used for all of the colors. The deep base will allow you to faithfully mix dark shades and keep their integrity . The next step is to find the right viscosity through experimentation….buy quarts.👍

@chasefluidart4341 I've watched nearly 100 different videos. Some are amazing and based on your professional opinion... they mess up a painting very easily. What would the mix be if I wanted to use silicon rather than Floetrol? And what layers is the silicon added to? Your work is very professional. I'm still watching your videos writing down tips and mixes.
@chasefluidart4341
@chasefluidart4341 Ай бұрын
Thank you TKBMcdaniel 🙏. My main objection to silicon is that it is so difficult to get it out of the painting after it is completed and ready to varnish. I’ve had several paintings trashed because…despite being thoroughly cleaned…silicon seeped through to the surface and ruined the varnish layer. My feeling is why take the chance when there are other ways to create cells without the headache silicon can cause.
@TKBMcdaniel
@TKBMcdaniel Ай бұрын
@@chasefluidart4341 I heard in the second video you stated it's not necessary to use floetrol or silicon for cells to form. It all has more to do with viscosity/density each paint. Is that correct?

I cannot find the base you are using. Have you ever tried this one? It seems to follow your requirements (on paper anyway). Deep base, enamel like qualities so I am thinking heavier than regular acrylic and tintable with semi-gloss finish. If you are not sure about that one, so you have an alternative? I just love your work. Thanks for the guidance.

Dear Steve, I came across your two videos last night - and I know it was fate! I tried your Facebook page, but I see that you had trouble with it. I am one who has just recently spent a small fortune in products and wish I would have found your tutorials first. I do have a couple of questions: 1) I have parrots in my home and cannot use any paint that isn't zero VOCs or ultra low VOCs. Sherwin Williams makes a zero VOC paint called Ovation and it is available in the deep base. Do you see any reason why I couldn't use that as a substitute for Behr? 2) Since I don't have an air compressor I would have to use some other type of blower (I'm assuming a hair blow dryer).... Obviously this would not create nearly the force that a compressor would, so should I not expect the same type of success that you achieve? Thank you in advance for your reply.
@chasefluidart4341
@chasefluidart4341 3 ай бұрын
Thank you so much MeAgain 🙏. I know nothing about VOCs…the only advice is to give it a try…buy a quart if possible. It’s more about control than force. The beauty of the air compressor setup is that the air gun has a trigger…that is the key!
@MeAgain-q4g
@MeAgain-q4g 3 ай бұрын
@@chasefluidart4341 Hi again, Steve. Your air compressor looks way to large for me to fit in my tiny studio (which is basically the part of my bedroom where my bed is not sitting!) Would a small portable air compressor work as well? I'm looking at electric ones with a/c option online and most likely can find a compatible hose and trigger attachment. I'm a 63 female who knows next to nothing about air compressors - but I certainly have filled my own tires with air. Any advice is greatly appreciated....... Thanks, Rhonda.

larger air compressors have storage air tanks to keep the motor from continuously running. It’s not necessary…just convenient (noise). My aim is to give the gun full power in a burst and then back down enough to spread the paint.

Thank you for this highly informative, well-thought-out video. This is what I've been searching for for my engineer brain to succeed in Abstract Cellism! I really appreciate the use of vocabulary to describe mediums and thinners. and even a name for the process. I created a nice database to track all my paints and additives and call my mixes "Chase Tar TL Thinner", and "Chase Color Medium" in your honor for explaining this in a thorough easy to use recipes. I haven't made a painting yet using your recipes and a direct downward pressure. I'm still mixing stuff up. I would be interested in your experience with mica pigments alongside liquid acrylics. How much pigment and do I add and adjustments to medium/thinner for consistency? For 2 floz of paint, I typically used 2 floz of medium to 1/2 tsp mica pigment and then add 1/2 tsp heavy gel medium to make it on par with soft body paints. Since your recipes are for liquid acrylics, I assume I would drop the gel and add either a bit more medium or Flood Thinner (your thinned Floetrol mix). Bottom line I know is all the paints,except the top layer, need to have the same consistency. Thanks for taking your time to explain all this to us!
