Many of the other "activated cells" resemble shed snake skins. The art of pouring fascinated me but I couldn't get past the snake skin look until I saw the difference in your "cells." The clarity and definition can only be an example of the "real deal." I have found snake skins hiking and they are incredible. They are the discard and nothing as exciting and beautiful as seeing the snake itself. Now that I have seen this example, I must begin. Thank you.

What an inspiring & deeply informative video. Thank you so much! I am a life long artist, taking up fluid art for the first time about 2 months ago. The struggles in listening to all the voices on KZbin have my head spinning & my pocketbook much thinner due to purchasing the next product(s) that are stated as being the item(s) for the many different methods to this art. You made it so simple by being so straightforward. Thanks you sir, you are appreciated. I do have a question. Would you say the Lineco PVA is the way to go or are there other alternatives such as wood glue that could be used in its place? Thank you kindly for your advice. Keep on creating beautiful artwork & please keep sharing your wisdom to the world ❤
@stevechase4407 Жыл бұрын
You are extremely kind Maria 🙏 thank you so much…you made my day! My opinion…Using water alone to thin paint weakens the paint. Using a medium to thin it helps hold the integrity of the paint because the medium has binders. The drawback is that too many chemicals in the ingredients of a medium can also interfere with the paint. I look at ingredients in a very defensive posture. Commercial PVA glues are made to be used for a lot of purposes …hence a variety of chemicals that have the potential to interfere and be a disruptive force with the paint. Will they work for Cellism paintings? Yes. But to my eye they make the painting look “trashy”. I appreciate that the Linco PVA is very expensive but it is the cleanest PVA I’ve found and the end result is more pleasing…at least for me.

Thank you Mr. Chase, again your insight, experience & wisdom is deeply appreciated. Thank you M. Chase. I got into a rut and you have inspired me. I really like your color combinations too. You are so direct. I also thought about a can of condensed air, but not certain if one can control it. Sure does beat being lightheaded and almost fainting!😆
@chasefluidart4341 Жыл бұрын
Thank you so much Bridget 🙏. The main reason I use an air compressor and gun is that it allows me to control the airflow….from barely moving the air at all to way up to 100 lbs per inch. My process takes both extremes. The key is learning how to control the trigger. I am not familiar with cordless air distributors but I suspect that they would not have enough power. Would love to see one however.

I hope this makes sense… In the beginning you gave a recipe for the “Pouring medium” This is the medium you mix the colors with? When you mentioned the base paint, does it come straight from the can of paint or is it mixed with a thinning agent (water?) How do I know the density of paint from lightest to heaviest?

Thank you Cheryl 🙏 the base paint is simply the bottom layer. It is the same formula as all of the other colors. Densities can be found in charts from the manufacturer of the paint.

Thank you for this highly informative, well-thought-out video. This is what I've been searching for for my engineer brain to succeed in Abstract Cellism! I really appreciate the use of vocabulary to describe mediums and thinners. and even a name for the process. I created a nice database to track all my paints and additives and call my mixes "Chase Tar TL Thinner", and "Chase Color Medium" in your honor for explaining this in a thorough easy to use recipes. I haven't made a painting yet using your recipes and a direct downward pressure. I'm still mixing stuff up. I would be interested in your experience with mica pigments alongside liquid acrylics. How much pigment and do I add and adjustments to medium/thinner for consistency? For 2 floz of paint, I typically used 2 floz of medium to 1/2 tsp mica pigment and then add 1/2 tsp heavy gel medium to make it on par with soft body paints. Since your recipes are for liquid acrylics, I assume I would drop the gel and add either a bit more medium or Flood Thinner (your thinned Floetrol mix). Bottom line I know is all the paints,except the top layer, need to have the same consistency. Thanks for taking your time to explain all this to us!

It was an honor to read your comments Mike 🙏 thank you so much. I played with pigment powders on a very limited bases so I am definitely not qualified to give any sort of advice on their use. @@lisajohnson3476 ….present day? There is no “chemical” magic here. It’s all about density/gravity of paint and controlled force to push heavy density paint down and out onto lighter density paint. STEP 1: Main Mix: Base Paint & Color Pouring Medium; Mix: 3 parts Behr Marquee Interior Semi-Gloss Enamel, Deep Base, Untinted, 3453 (green can, HomeDepot) 1 part Minwax high gloss polycrylic Add: to the above add 10% Golden tar gel EXAMPLE: 15 oz (3 parts) Behr 5 oz (1 part) Minwax Polycrylic 20 oz (4 parts) total 20 oz times 10% = 2 oz tar gel (which is almost ½ part [2.5 oz], but is actually 3/8 part) ***The consistency of this formula is ideal for my use of controlled air. If it is too thick for you I suggest adding small amounts of water to the polycrylic alone until it suits your particular style...this will probably take several trials...so test with small proportions. Apply a fair sized puddle as the first layer or base paint, it is the identical formula as all the rest of the colors....spin to thin it down a bit and add more base paint around edges of paint that is already down, spin a bit, and smudge base paint out to edges of canvas. STEP 2: Color Paint Mix; same consistency as Main Mix Mix: 10% heavy pigment paint (Golden is best) 90% Main Mix (Base Paint & Color Pouring Medium) Apply Color Paint Mix (second layer) in several ways, using squirt bottle, either very thin squiggly lines or in puddles made of thin squiggly lines that then look like they were poured, doing 1st color, then 2nd color, etc. STEP 3: Top Layer Mix ; this will be THIN Floetrol/Water Thinner: 5 parts regular Floetrol plus 8 parts water. This will be used to thin the Tar Gel or the Liquitex Pouring Medium. Tar Gel Top Layer Mix: 10 parts Floetrol/Water plus 4 parts Golden Tar Gel. This makes the thinner for the paint. Then mix: 8 parts Thinner Mix with 3 parts soft body paint. Liquitex Pouring Medium Mix: 4 parts Floetrol/Water plus 10 parts Liquitex Pouring Medium. This makes the thinner for the paint. Then mix: 10 parts Thinner Mix with 7 parts soft body paint. Apply Top Layer Mix using squirt bottle concentrating in center or apply as puddle made of thin squiggly lines that then look like they were poured. STEP 4: Use controlled force on the paint (compressor, blow dryer) to force Top Layer Mix over color paint. This is the most critical part. STEP 5: Spin or tilt.

@chasefluidart4341 I've watched nearly 100 different videos. Some are amazing and based on your professional opinion... they mess up a painting very easily. What would the mix be if I wanted to use silicon rather than Floetrol? And what layers is the silicon added to? Your work is very professional. I'm still watching your videos writing down tips and mixes.
@chasefluidart4341Ай бұрын
Thank you TKBMcdaniel 🙏. My main objection to silicon is that it is so difficult to get it out of the painting after it is completed and ready to varnish. I’ve had several paintings trashed because…despite being thoroughly cleaned…silicon seeped through to the surface and ruined the varnish layer. My feeling is why take the chance when there are other ways to create cells without the headache silicon can cause.
@TKBMcdanielАй бұрын
@@chasefluidart4341 I heard in the second video you stated it's not necessary to use floetrol or silicon for cells to form. It all has more to do with viscosity/density each paint. Is that correct?

As a last step you said 4 parts Lukas Cryl studio black acrylic, 9 parts Australian Flotrol, 1 part Bookbinders PVA. What can be used instead of the Australian Flotrol? I'm new to this and love it. However I had a stroke and new information kind of sifts through into my brain. Not a big deal. Just that I learn a little slower and usually have questions. Thank you!

Freakin awesome! Unbelievable results. Is this possible with large canvas? Around 4’x6’?
@chasefluidart4341 Жыл бұрын
I appreciate it fightrrrrr 🙏 possible?…yes. A lot of factors to pull it off. First you would need to re-enforce the canvas…then have a spinner to accommodate that size… and then be careful laying out the paint. I have never done one that size…too old to handle the weight🤪.

I wonder what is special about the book binding glue as the brand mentioned is very expensive. Could it be the low PH?
@stevechase44072 жыл бұрын
Great question Hayley 🙏 thank you so much. A PVA glue such as GlueAll is manufactured to be used in a wide variety of situations so it’s chemical composition is complex. The more chemicals thrown into the medium the greater chance of interference with the paint itself. The bookbinders PVA is much cleaner chemically so it eliminates the chemicals that can make a painting go wacky. I believe it gives a painting a much cleaner look.

I cannot find the base you are using. Have you ever tried this one? It seems to follow your requirements (on paper anyway). Deep base, enamel like qualities so I am thinking heavier than regular acrylic and tintable with semi-gloss finish. If you are not sure about that one, so you have an alternative? I just love your work. Thanks for the guidance.

Thank you so much Bridgette 🙏. I have not worked with another base long enough to recommend one. It does however sound like you are on the right track. My best advice is to experiment various brands in as small a quantity as possible.
