Been down Parsons Branch Road multiple times. Be careful and don’t stop. The feral people are waiting and watching. Stop and get out of your car? You may not find your way back. The feral people will rob you, rob the things in your car. They don’t have much. They’re not mean or violent; however, if you put up a fight, they will take care of business. They have nothing to lose. They don’t talk and they move silently through the woods stealing things like clothes, food and equipment from hikers and loners stopping on Parsons Branch Road. Keep your eyes pealed all you want. You won’t see them nor evidence of them. Be careful and don’t stop…from an old war veteran, retired in the foothills of the Smokies.

Imo, being a local that travels both these roads regularly when open, I find Rich Mtn road to be more exciting. You get a high view of both the Cades Cove valley and of Townsend and on that side. At that viewpoint just two weeks ago, saw a bear climb a tree not 15feet from the road view pull off. Saw him go up, see me, than come back down and scampers off. Was amazing with the foliage. Your less likely to see a bear in Parsons Branch than in Rich Mtn as Rich Mtn has a high pass which the bear regularily travel across. Also the elevation change is amazing on Rich Mtn road. It's an easier drive as well compared to the deep mudded pot holes of Parson's Branch road. Both are awesome and just depends on what kind of drive you want to go on. Parson's has what I call the mud hill. This portion of Branch road has claimed many drivers that get stuck in it and fail to make the top of the hill. It's in the first 2 miles of the Parson's Branch road and is roughly a few hundred feet but goes up about 20 feet and a farily steep incline. If it's showed in the park, expect this a tough hill to climb in a 12 to 14 inch clearance and darn near impossible in most any lower clearance car. If you make it past this, your good, unless the water crossings are raging. Rich Mtn is closed in Winter as well, and a much more dangerous road if we are talking about Winter weather than Parson's Branch. No guardrails and high drop offs. Harken to the days of snowy travel across Happy Valley mountain road back in the 70's with and no snow plows, no guard rails back than. For me, the Spookiest road might be for me, Waldon's Creek Rd from Pigeon Forge to Wallend just before you turn onto Lamar Alexander Pkwy near Heritage HS. There more deaths have occurred on this road and it's very isolated but with more residents, narrow two lane road and hair pin curves.

I rode frieght trains from 2006-2010. Got dumped in Middlesburogh in 2009 and ended up hitchhiking thru the tunnel. At the time I had no idea about the gap. It was a wonderful experience. I live in Colorado and the Esenhower tunnel has Hazmat escorts, and all of the tunnels I went thru in Washington State has them. In fact Ive been thru all of the tunnels you are talking about, multiple times and YES, they all have hazmat escorts... So you prolly were paying attention to the scenery, and not the hazmat signs. Its pretty obvious why they have those escorts, but, if you seriously can't or dont understand. Then find yourself a long haul trucker with a hazmat endorsment and have them explain it to you.

That's why I made this video. People visit the Cove dozens of times and never know it's there. I admit, it's a little bit of a "clickbait" video. But it's a great way to tell people about this awesome road. There are a lot of roads like this all over the Appalachian Mountains. But this one is connected to the most visited attraction in the Smokies. It's shocking that more people don't know about it. Thanks for watching and thanks for commenting!

@@BillMarion I love to explore mountain roads such as Parsons Branch. Seems like a great place to go trail horseback riding during daylight.

The reason it's spooky is because we are used to people everywhere. Actually it's a very pretty road.

It's a great road in an an amazing place. My experiment worked. I was trying to figure out a way to make a video about this road that people would watch. "Spooky," means different things to different people. I was going for a Scooby-Doo kind of "Spooky." In some ways it worked. Lots of comments from people who visit the Cove often, but didn't know the road was there. But some people didn't like at all. If I try to make a video like this again, I'll try a little harder to convey my real intent. Regardless, thank you so much for watching, and thank you for commenting!

I was more thinking of spooky as in, kind of spooky, but it is a great drive and the scenery is awesome. We love it. The purpose of the video is to inform people about the road itself. A good story is a great way to tell people about the road. But I should have tried harder to make it more of a Scooby-Doo kind of "spooky." Thank you so much for watching and commenting!

We live in Chattanooga, but we love the mountains over there. Heck, my wife and I spent all our dating life in Cades Cove. Come to think of it, we took our kids to the Smokies all summer long. They carry on the tradition with their kids now. The main reason I made this video is to bring attention to the area. That's what the whole "spooky" thing is really about. Yes a great place and so accurate to say be prepared for extream crowds. That part is frustrating. We hope to go back, we had 8 days planned and were forced out last sept with a hurricane. Ended up spending longer in the white Mountains NH which turned out to be an awesome thing. Beautiful less crowded area.
@BillMarion12 күн бұрын
Wow,! I'm glad I didn't overstate it. It was crowded when we were there, and to be such a limited area I couldn't imagine it being more crowded. But it wouldn't be crowded if it wasn't great! I pronounce it appa-latch-an because appa-lay-shun is something else entirely: the word 'appellation', which means name or title. And also, appa-latch-an sounds more like a Native American pronunciation to me.
