Had one. For me, the neck’s too skinny & narrow. Weighs a metric ton. Sounded good though.

Thanks for the video - Question: What is the bridge string spacing on these? I cant seem to find that listed anywhere.

These have 19mm string spacing. It's a standard Fender 5 screw patterned bent metal bridge - what's great about that is should you not like the stock bridge, you could swap it out for any number of after market/'upgrade' bridges with the standard Fender screw pattern. Thanks for watching!

Thanks for watching and for your encouragement! If you are wondering about the effects of string gauges and scale length, here is a video I made comparing this Junior scale jazz with a vintage full scale 1968 Jazz. I put 100-45s on the short scale, down from the stock 105s. kzbin.info/www/bejne/l4jcg5dte8yXmbM PS The Japanese-made Sting bass is a cool bass. I had one. It was full scale and had a big round neck on it. Noisy single coil pickup though, but it was part of the charm!

The mikro seems like an interesting instrument. As it targets kids, guitarists and bassists that want something different I think they should have reduced the string spacing going for their standard 5 strings 16.5mm : Easier for kids and tiny hands, easier raking and chords playing, for some faster noodling, etc. The only trade-off may be for slapping but lots of people manage to do away with it AND an extra string. Ibanez uses to innovate, they should normalise string spacing on 4 an 5 strings, having 18mm and 16.5mm depending on the lines and models sounds like a good place to start.

@@jonathanwong458music You're welcome, I feel like pick-ups, more than habits or big boys are the thing that get in the way of normalizing or at least start to bridge the gap between 4 and 5 strings. 18 would be a nice but to make it really practical multiple manufacturers would have to agree… in this world… Anyway I think 16.5 mm would be great for the mikro making it a more hybrid instrument between bass and plectrum banjo.

Nice job as always. At least the body has comfort cuts. A slab body is one thing I don't like and that bothers me about the Player Mustang as well as the Gretsch Junior Jet. Two shorties I really like otherwise.
@jonathanwong458music
@jonathanwong458music 3 күн бұрын
Thanks so much for watching and for your encouragement! You're absolutely right about the comfort contours. I made mention of those in my video on the 1st gen. This video on the 2nd gen was getting too long, so that aspect got edited out. I also agree that the Player Mustang's slab body is holding it back. Maybe it's a price-point $ saving strategy? I really like my 1st gen PJ Mustang, but the lack of a forearm contour made longer sessions uncomfortable.

Thanks for watching! Unfortunately no. This particular Labella set is for the Mini Precision which has a 28.6” scale (saddle to nut). Thanks again, Jonathan. I was always curious about this bass and how quality it is. Regarding the mahogany body, as far as I read the spec, it seems to be eastern mahogany. So, probably Nyatoh, the same used in many classic vibe Squier basses - including the mustangs.
@jonathanwong458music
@jonathanwong458music 3 күн бұрын
That is a really interesting observation! Maybe it's the lack of opaque paint and finish, but the tap tone of the body (you can sort of hear it in the video) seems to be higher pitched and more 'ringy' than some of the nyatoh bodies I've had my hands on. Those seem to have more of a dull 'thud' more than a 'ping'. But it does very much depend on where the tree came from, part of the tree, age of the tree, how much moisture etc etc etc even if it's the same species of tree! Thanks for your loyal viewership!

As a Truman-era relic, I haven't strayed too far from the traditional-styled instruments. Have a Jazz and a Precision, as well as a Bass-VI. Never cared much for these new-fangled pointy instruments, but saw the Mikro and thought it would be just the thing to toss beside my 'TV chair', and noodle whilst gazing blankly at the tube. Found I really liked it. Aside from not knocking over my wife's lamps with a long neck, the lesser reach is a blessing to my arthritic shoulders. I replaced the pickups with a set of alnico noiseless Artecs (no longer produces). They're considerably punchier than the ceramic stock units (although they sounded just fine, except for the 60-Hz on the j-pickup). Strung it up with Ernie Ball cobalt flats -- 50-105. Sounds incredible, especially given its diminutive size. Not going to replace a full scale under all circumstances, but I'm seriously considering the full-scale Ibanez that closely resembles the Mikro. Parenthetically, it came out of the box absolutely perfect. No fret issues, intonation dead on. Action just right for my preferences. I will say that the tone control isn't as continuous as I might like, but I plan on rewiring it to employ a blend control, and will take of it then. All of these Pacific-rim factories have really upped their game in recent years.

That's so wonderful to hear! The Soundgear line represents pretty good value, even the 1000 and higher model numbers with the fancier wood tops. Their necks are pretty comfortable, albeit quite a bit slimmer than traditional Fenders. Glad you found a couch bass!

Interesting! I'm looking for a bass for my daughter and had this exact question - which of these is better. One question I still have, is because you played the comparison on the P pickup only, does the Mikro have a better range of available tones considering the J pickup option?
@jonathanwong458music
@jonathanwong458music 6 күн бұрын
Thanks for watching! Yes, the addition of the J pickup can add more tonal variety. There's not a lot of string orbit back by the bridge on these super-short scales, so the solo'd bridge p/u tone is too thin for me. But in combination with the P, could definitely give you more sounds. Really depends on whether it's the right sounds for you! Hi Jonathan, I said I'd get back to you once the Wilde P-46 pickup had been installed in my Mini P - Firstly, I'm just a hobbyist and not technical! My local guitar tech fitted them and he did seem to suggest there was an option has to how you install them. In any event they fitted perfectly and I know he used soldering. To my ear they sound crystal clear and there is no hum. I think they give a 'fat' sound and for my tastes I have the tone set at around 30% - They are only available from the manufacturer's (worth looking at their website) and at £77 (Inc £19 shipping to the UK) I'm very happy with the results! Wish I could give you a little more technical information but it's just not my forte! All the best from the UK - Ps just enjoyed watching your video on the Luna bass

Provided you like how the neck feels, it might be worth it you were able to swap out the pickups (I'd change out the pots and wiring too) to get rid of the grounding and noise issue. However, what you might not be able to change is the weak sounding G string, which I think is a result of the design and construction. It already has a P pickup route, which makes it more convenient than, say, modding a Squier Bronco to accept a P. Thanks for watching!

I've been meaning to ask - what is the purpose of the glove on your left hand? Is it for tone, or to be easy on your fingertips? I ask because I've played guitar & bass for 42 years and I still have no calluses
@jonathanwong458music
@jonathanwong458music 8 күн бұрын
It's not a callus issue. I wish it was that simple! I have an autoimmune disease (a form of dermatomyositis) that has resulted in lots of finger joint and skin inflammation. It has also affected my big muscles and respiratory muscles. More specifically, I have lots of vasculitic spots on my fingertips that are very painful and worse with contact. So the glove acts as a bit of a cushion and helps with pain control. It's certainly not fashionable, but it's allowed me to ease back into playing music again. Instead, I use an EQ block at the end to take out unneeded sub lows and roll off the harsh highs. How does it compare to the classic vibe mustang, not just the neck but in general as I can get one locally for the same price as the mv-4sb. I borrowed an ibanez recently and really liked that slim neck but couldn't get on with the full scale length.

Thanks for watching! It’s been a while since having a classic vibe mustang in my hands. If I recall correctly, the HB has a bit more of a D shape profile. It’s not a night and day difference but neither are Ibanez-like. If you like the Ibanez neck profile, you might like their medium scale sound gear mezzo bass. Oddly they don’t have a sound gear style 30” scale but they have the Mikro at 28.6”. The 30” scale Talman has a really chunky neck and much bigger body. The classic vibe Squier has a different sound. The stock pickup is quite a bit smaller (sonic footprint) and more narrow sounding. Whether or not you desire a bridge pickup might also factor in. The Sire u5 is a solid bass, but I found the body to be a bit uncomfortable with the absence of a forearm cutaway. It’s more ‘modern’ sounding. Hope this helps!
