Without question that 2009 team was the best, because you can throw for 10,000 yards but if you can't stop anybody, you're the same half of a team as you would be if you had a 4,000 yard passer. A little bit of defense goes a long way, and the turnover style defense complemented the offense perfectly. More possessions, more points, even if the defense was giving up lots of touchdowns.

I genuinely believe this defense will be top 35 by the end of the year. Yes the dline is thin, but the amount of talent we have at Edge & LB is crazy, and some Dlinemen are destined to break out a little. + the secondary will get significantly better with better scheme, better tackling and motivation

Got damnt THANK YOU! 😂 I get so tired of all these iffy LSU channels and message boards. Records talking about 8-4/9-3, Talking about the offense is falling off, talking about the defense isn't going to get better, f em. Now you got people spouting off at the mouth about Corey Raymond, like he can force a kid to commit to him. He's not in charge of how much money the kid gets, and it's freaking July anways! Love this positivity and eff you attitude. If people really sat down and assessed everything LSU football has going, they'd be excited as well. It's too much "fear of losing out", in this fanbase. The fact that people don't understand the complete hole LSU was in before Kelly got here. Kirby Smart went to an UGA team that averaged 9-10 wins a year, that had a really good roster, that didn’t have to deal with the transfer portal, and it STILL took him 6 years to win a national championship. LSU isn’t trying to build and one and done roster. LSU is trying to build a dynasty. No other program has this many insanely strong developers of talent on their coaching staff. I mean, it's like the freaking Avengers. I've been saying this for a while, but LSU's 2026 and 2027 teams will be like UGA's 2021 and 2022 teams.

I would have loved to see the 1991/92 Dome Patrol defense paired up with either the 2009/2011 Saints offense. That would be the greatest NFL team of all time. Rickey Jackson, Sam Mills, Pat Swilling, and Vaughn Johnson is also the best linebacking corp of all time.

The 1971, 77, and 92 Cowboys are all in the argument for greatest NFL team of all time. You left out that the 77 defense only allowed 229.5 y/g, a number that puts modern defenses to shame. The 71 team had the most talented roster with 11 Hall of Famers, including the fastest man in NFL history Bob Hayes (look him up if you want to know about speed). The 71 team started a shaky 4-3 because they were shuttling 2 different QBs. When Staubach became the full time starter they won every game. Staubach posted a 104.8 season rating, which is insane given that the average NFL passer rating in 71 was 62.2. For perspective the top rated QB in 2023 was only 24 points higher than the league average. Staubach was not only a great runner, but led the NFL 4 years in passer rating and went on to retire with the highest career passer rating in NFL history up to that point. To seriously comment on NFL history you have to understand stat inflation. Higher offensive numbers today doesn't mean offensive players are better. Factors like rule changes have continuously tilted in favor of offense, especially passing, making it easier. Football used to be more about hitting. You were allowed to play defense back in the day. By 1977, for example, defenses had become so dominant that they changed the chuck rule starting in 78, meaning DBs could only hit WRs for 5 yards instead of 10. After numerous changes like that restricting defense over the decades, today's NFL almost resembles basketball on grass. It's close to touch football at times. Old Pro Bowl games were more intensely fought than playoff games often are now. If Roger Staubach played today he'd be lighting up the stat board and doing it a long time given all the QB protection and advanced medical care. The 71 Cowboys only allowed 1 TD in the entire playoffs and were the first to hold their SB opponent without a TD. Stat inflation aside, that's impressive since they were the only ones to accomplish that in the first 52 years of Super Bowl history. Plus they crushed a truly great Dolphins team that would go undefeated the following year. The 77 Cowboys, with a mix of old and new players, held Broncos QB Craig Morton to a 0.0 passer rating in SB XII, considered by many experts to be the hardest hitting SB of all time. Again, a great accomplishment for any era. They called Landry's defense "Doomsday" for a reason. Overall the 70s Cowboys were a little better on defense than the 90s Cowboys while the 90s dynasty was a little better on offense in my opinion. The 90s teams didn't typically light up the stat board the way they occasionally showed they could, because they opted to get early leads (set up by passing, with Emmitt scoring short TDs) then play for time of possession, but were so versatile and physical that I think they could move the ball and score against any defense in history. The 70s Cowboys might have had the greatest defense of all time while the 90s Cowboys might have had the greatest offense of all time. I don't think you'd go wrong to pick any of the 3 I listed. The Cowboys SB teams were also dominant on both sides of the ball. From 1966 through the mid 90s every Super Bowl champion was at least good on both sides of the ball, and some were great on both sides. Then new salary cap and free agency rules ended the Great Team Era and created the Parity Era. Individual players still have athleticism and offensive skill (though some of the flash comes from increased specialized training in things like shorts & shirts 40 times, the game impact of which is debatable), but TEAMS are NOT as good at the top of the league as they used to be. Frequent turnover prevents continuity and salary dynamics prevent teams from building stacked rosters across the board. Parity Era SB champions have sometimes been great on offense or defense, but not both. Special teams are sloppy. Union rules prevent players from even tackling in practice. Tackling is a skill like any other and the inability to practice it shows in reduced play quality on the field. Teams today have holes all over them. Unless you're talking about a recent expansion team, or a team with a history as sorry as the Saints, no franchise's best team should be a 21st Century one. Sure the Patriots. But even they won their SBs by 3 or 4 points. The 2001 Patriots were the first SB champion to be AVERAGE on both sides of the ball. The Patriots' tremendous accomplishment was being the first to figure out how to sustain success in the Parity Era. They did so by NOT trying to be great, but by fielding players who were just good enough to avoid the boom/bust cycle. They also lucked into a great franchise QB who, with the protections of today, was able to play for 2 decades. Long story short, your overall "Greatest Team in NFL History" should be pre-Parity Era. It's not even close. There hasn't been a truly great NFL team since the 90s Cowboys dynasty.

THEY DONT ALLOW YOU TO PLAY DEFENSE IN TODAYS GAME.. they are litteraly out there playing 7 on 7.. damn right numbers are going to increase when you can't touch the opponent without getting ejected , flagged, fined.. it's sickening what theg done to the game.. the way you talk about today's game like it's better... ... it's not. With the secondary we have, adding kool-aid, Chase Young, and Willie Gay, if this team reaches their potential they could be a top 5 defense. If we still had Hendrickson, Ceedy Deuce, and Teron Armstead, this team would be getting a lot more attention.
