This means that the Sun's height above the horizon throughout the day will change by 20 + 20 = 40° or from 3.4° to 43.4° on the summer solstice. On the equinoxes that change goes from 20° above the horizon to 20° below it (normal day-night cycle) and on the winter solstice from 3.4° to 43.4° below, also known as the polar night when the Sun never rises.
