The whole system dynamics thing reminds me of this paper. "Nobody Ever Gets Credit for Fixing Problems that Never Happened: CREATING AND SUSTAINING PROCESS IMPROVEMENT" by Repenning and Sterman The feedback loops mentioned are directly presented in the paper. The paper dives into controlling productivity in a automobile factory. The positive feedback loop is investing in scheduled maintenance. Taking time off the assembly line in order to fix problems. This creates delays and decreases immediate production. Especially in the context of a deadline. The negative feedback loop is overtime. Forcing a production crunch leads to immediate gains in productivity. However problems will compound in the future due to neglect. Again think of the deadline scenario. The key insight in the paper is the rewards of the positive feedback loop are in the future, with immediate cost/penalty. Whereas the rewards of the negative feedback loop are in the present, with a cost/penalty in the future. This directly pits the managers short term interests against the factory's long term interests. My friend also elaborated that this applies to personal improvement as well. The conflict in this case is intra-personal. In order to improve you need to spent time now to learn something, with no immediate gain. Whereas the other side of the argument is applying what you know right now and work on a job or project. The same manager-employee dynamic appears in this case as well. P.S. Just saw that Sterman is the dude talking in the MIT video you linked. So that makes a lot more sense why the two things are so similar, because they are the same thing lmao. I still recommend giving the paper a read since it grounds the abstract in a real world example. Also shoutout to @unlearningeconomics9021 , i watch all his stuff twice.

That’s awesome! I studied both cello with normal classical teachers and also jazz with normal jazz instrument teachers, and just practiced a lot. There’s some online resources too that some of my peers have started. Jazz cello is still an underground phenomenon haha

My husband just got this cello and saw your review on it. Our son is a freshman in HS and has been playing since 6th grade. Do you think this is a cello he should use as a back up or could he use it as his primary as we are currently renting one for him
@justinlepard21 күн бұрын
@@WaterLily0347 I would imagine the one you’re renting is better sound, and presumably you’ll need the shop from time to time for repairs anyway. But if you get it set up with good strings and good rosin and feel like it plays and/or sounds better than the rented one, then that’s the best answer there is! Price correlates to quality for sure but there are so many variables (even potentially between two “identical” models of cello) it comes down to what the player tries and prefers. Good luck!

Hello Should a beginner start of with a 1/2 size Cello or a Full size Cello regardless of age?
@justinlepard26 күн бұрын
@@seymour5575 if you’re so young that you can’t hold a full size cello, then smaller sizes work well for developing familiarity, and is a common practice. You don’t get to have smaller pianos though, for example. I think it’s fine to start full size if you are big enough to hold it because they tend to sound better anyway. Just my two cents! Best of luck
