Thanks for sharing,sir! I’m opening mine now and looking for a safe way to remove the screen from the PCB. This board isn’t welded on, you just have to help the positive terminals out of their grooves by prying them out. It’s 8 years since you posted this video so it’s likely that you’ve thrown the charger away by now but hopefully my comment may help others looking to access the internals.
@KevsElectricalWorkshop15 күн бұрын
Wow 8 years, yes i got rid of it as soon as possible as the burn smell was horrid

Are any of those circuit boards available for purchase? If so where from and how much are they and can more than one be bought? You may find some demand for these from people who want to do an Atari adapter for the new Spectrum Console which has USB ports ( demand may be supressed at the moment as people have not opened their Christmas pressies!!) .

Kev if you lay the 2 housings beside themselves and pass the appropriate size screwdriver through the 4 hinge pin holes the housings will be stable and remain flat while you work on it. Why did the resistor blow? My opinion is it's a supplier issue, 99.99% of the R8/R11 resistors that blow are base colour blue, the original base colour brown ones (in 50 ohm) almost never blow. However if there is a swivel connection problem (like the ones that took the obsolete Type 2 cable) then the brown ones will fail just as easily. Same goes for Cloud9 R31 & R32 under the switch, blue 50 ohm resistors dropped like flies, never saw a burnt out brown one.
@KevsElectricalWorkshop2 ай бұрын
in principle yes but on ghd4&5 you would need to use the bush, both blue and brown on paper should be fine but the brown has a high vmax so is more tolerant, bottom line its a voltage spike that takes them out either bad connection in swivel joint or switch or even customers bad mains supply. I feel more confident in brown

I tackled some 4.2s like that where the seller (I got them cheap on eBay) admitted they had failed due to liquid damage. It was in that exact spot as it had leaked past the slide switch, and it had caused arcing exactly like that but not as far under the heater. I cleaned it all up very thoroughly (the soot from the first flash over can easily cause more), serviced the switch as that had signs of liquid in it, and ended up not replacing any parts other than the fuse in the plug.

Welcome back. I enjoy your videos. Some how, although subscribed I missed a few videos. I'll have to go back and catch up. I'm surprised you are still fixing the curling irons - or more accurately - that anyone bothers to send them in for repair these in these days of throwaway culture. Good work.

Hi, thanks i want to do more and defiantly want to do something different than just ghds but don't know what yet, testing out the software and hardware at moment. Yes ghd repair is still very popular on the newer models (not the older ones shown here) , may touch on the newer models here but for obvious reasons some things are kept as trade secrets.

@@KevsElectricalWorkshop Well you seem to have been up to other projects in the past that I somehow missed (Thanks to KZbin not notifying me). In fact I built one of the rotating persistence of vision displays you showed. I was in touch with you several times in the past on that one. @KevsElectricalWorkshop5 ай бұрын
R11 was open circuit and cracked, r8 was 55 when should have been 50 so 10% out, better to replace now than have it returned from upset customer 3 weeks later to replaced r8 once it fails.
@xiaomitelephone8458 ай бұрын
the camera is a bit off but the tutorial was good. It would be nice to see how to change brushes. I think the most common issue is to replace brushes or something that has to do with the heating resistance.

Amazing. I saw my R8 had gone, I wouldn't have noticed the small black mark on it and when I saw it spark, bingo! I've had intermittent heating/beeping etc so all ties in with this. I have ordered a new R8 resister and will solder it in soon as received in the post. Thank you!

For those in the US, the filter is NOT removable. Here's ghd's North America Support's statement and filter cleaning instructions: Due to UL government standards in the United States, we were unable to manufacture the AIR dryer with a removable filter. The ghd AIR dryer does not have a removable filter. To clean your ghd AIR filter take a soft toothbrush and gently remove any dust or hair present in the filter.

I have the exact same lamp. Found out the solar panel does not provide the 5V so the PIR switches the lamp on even with bright light conditions. I disassembled the solar panel and found the '+' solder joint loose (red wire). Desoldered it but then, i cannot solder the red wire to the back of the solar panel, the solder just does not want to stick on the same spot where i desoldered the red wire from! ! Any idea?

I've got some 6.3mm rods I need solder on the tips. Any suggestions? I've tried a bath of rosin with solder in it for more surface contact and to stop it oxidising while heating and all sorts, I know this particular rod doesn't like to be brazed so that's out of the question, I might try drilling a 4mm hole so the solder can pool inside it?
