Thank you kind man, my wife's had exactly the same problem and fixed it spending 0,05€ (and 1 hour).. Cheers from Greece

Hi i get 51 ohms ish from R11 and R8 but nothing from R1 R5 and R10. Should they also be reading 51 ohms ish?

r1,5,10 are all 1 Mohms some meters wont measure them and its very rare they go faulty

Red LED stays on solid on my pair of 4.2b but won't heat up? Is the thermal fuse gone? I thought there'd be no circuit at all if it had?
@KevsElectricalWorkshop2 жыл бұрын
Correct your thermal fuse is fine so can only mean you have 2 broken elements (heaters)

Where do you source the correct resistors in bulk for R8 R11 ? I can only find the pair or single for sale.
@KevsElectricalWorkshop2 жыл бұрын
RS or Farnell there are a few combos to pick from but you can pay for the more exotic flavors, a good start is fanell 3086689 which is a 47 ohm 1 watt melf with a 300v max (50ohms will cost you so go for a 47 or 51 ohm), off top of my head think the original r8/r11 are 0.4w @50 ohm

My straighteners all of a sudden starting beeping manicly and they heat up but the beeping and a cracking sort of noise happens when i try and straighten and they won’t go away do you know what this could be
@KevsElectricalWorkshop2 жыл бұрын
the swivel joint will need replacing and possibly the cable also, if its left unrepaired R8 or R11 will fail and they will become dead

Hello, i took my north american GHD 4.2B model to europe. I attempted to use it with a converter and it didnt heat up. It started beeping. I am back in north america now and my straightner will not turn on. Any ideas what this may be? And any possible solutions? Thank you so much!
@KevsElectricalWorkshop2 жыл бұрын
Probably just R8 or R11

Hi Kev, do you know what the resistors are on the GHD 4.2b they have 105 written on them, I guess 1megaohm. I've ordered multiple but I keep getting them too small, they are 6mm x 3mm ish
@KevsElectricalWorkshop2 жыл бұрын
size for R1/5/8/10/11/ are 0207, R1,5,10 are 1meg

Hi Kev, Great, clear video! Only question I have is what size resistor is R8? I can’t read the ring colours on my wife’s set as it’s black/burnt.
@KevsElectricalWorkshop4 жыл бұрын
If your GHD has a R11 also then R8 and R11 are 50 ohms, if it only has a R8 then R8 is 100 ohms, 47 or 52or 56 ohms will work fine and are easier to find.

My plates don't meet on my ghds do you know how to mend them?
@KevsElectricalWorkshop4 жыл бұрын
On this model the plates meet at the inner end first and require extra pressure to meet over the length, the plates are mounted on rubbers to allow the plate to move. if you cant get any part of the plates to meet you have a issue with the hinge.

Kev I've got the same digital thermometer as you , I repair GHD's myself. Does your thermometer max out at 200 degrees? Mine does. Not sure if it's the thermometer or my thermocouple probe.

@@KevsElectricalWorkshop I'm just curious why you have so many hair straighteners on your bench? A sort of work at home contract you have with the manufacturer dealing with customer repair? They send them to a PO box near you or you pick up a bunch..? I'm just curious what those are doing there, how they get there, and what happens to them after lol

I also run my own repair business repairing GHD's, GHD's are sent direct from customer and returned back to them

@@KevsElectricalWorkshop To me it just seems like the kind of cheap thing you get a new one of, it amazes me you fix so many, and how cheap they seem in look and feel... Cheap no you pay for the label, these are the Apple of the hair styling world, Authorised service centres dont exist if its out of warranty your out of luck hence why there is so many people repairing them.
