Nice product but it doesn't make a lot of sense to lots of us. Some of us already have the powerbank holder and the NPF battery plate. So if I am to buy, I will only get the foldable mounting plate, which Smallrig isn't offering separately.
@thomasfransson
@thomasfransson Күн бұрын
If you have other options you find as nimble or if you can't see yourself using it personally - Sure. But I think of everyone buying a new camera or getting into video to extend battery life with a power bank they probably already own. And I could see this as a great backup to have in your bag if your NPF, V-Mount or regular batteries are getting low. Slap it on with your own power bank or borrow one on set. Personally I also like the sheer size of it along with a smaller power bank for those times when you really want to slim down your camera to as little as possible. It's great to have options for those and other occasions ;)

@@thomasfransson That's ok. In my case, I have two powerbank holders and two NPF battery plates already. So all I need is the arca foldable mounting plate. Buying the Smallrig 4696 which is about 70 Euros in Germany, while knowing that the NPF plate is completely useless to me just doesn't make sense. And the plates on it's own accounts for about half or more of the price.

If you have a cage with a straight end at the rail section it will fit. I have an older cage for my X-T4 where the bottom arca rail morphs into the grip and on one side and a 3/8 thread rail on the other end (instead of nato) This sadly makes it impossible to slide the arca QR on to that cage. So just make sure you have an open end and it should work.

I use the matte box when I shoot with cine lenses mainly as they are more prone to flaring and vailing. @thomasfransson
@thomasfransson 3 күн бұрын
Yeah pretty much, that's why they're made out of metal to help with heat dissipation. It's basically a big heat sink. There's lots of information about this on google if you want to learn more about how CFExpress cards work and that sort of stuff. It's also why some newer cameras don't always have CFExpress card slots - to prevent them from internal heat issues.
@gianlucagianferrari
@gianlucagianferrari 2 күн бұрын
@@thomasfransson thanks. I did hours and hours of research on Google to try to understand if the strong heat was normal or not. I didn't find much. The most interesting thing are some articles on PetaPixel where they warn about CFs that are NOT VPG certified. There is also a list of brands that have the certification and Pergear is not there, this made me very suspicious... I will do other tests with a friend's Lexar
@thomasfransson
@thomasfransson 2 күн бұрын
Really? I just googled "CFExpress Type A gets hot" and got about 307 000 results, most of them explaining the works of these cards and confirming the fact that they do get hot. Even when Idle or just sitting in a card reader. Even my Sony gets hot. There's a a bunch of these new cards coming out on the market and just like one could expect not all, especially manufacturers of more budget friendly options might go through all the licensing and certification, this would not mean it's a bad card. Just that they made a card and didn't care about the proper certification. Just like with third party batteries that will work just fine even if they won't have the same certification and your camera might say that It can not guarantee the functionality of a battery as it's not an OEM... the camera isn't able to verify that it's not OEM and therefore... And if you are a big content creator and you have a choice to recommend products that won't have any issues (most likely) or recommend a card, battery, lens, accessory that may work perfectly on 97% of all cameras. But you don't want the risk of getting complaints from those 3% Well then you stick with the safe bets... It's just like in camera groups where there's people that's afraid of even using third party lenses and make it very clear as often as they could how superior OEM is and how they'd never buy third party options. Sorry about the rant. All I can say is that I've used this card for 90% of everything I've shot on my Sony since I got in in early 2024 and not run into any issues or have seen anyone reporting any issues on any Sony group or KZbin. I was worried when I got it as it got hot - did some quick reserach and discovered that these cards do get hot and I didn't think more of it.

Well, here is a much smarter decision… Dump Premier pro and start using da Vinci resolve which is much much much much better than premiere. In every possible way. I just don’t understand why anybody would keep paying for Premier pro when da Vinci resolve is so much better. And then you don’t need Dehancer because the tools in resolve can do 99% of everything you need.
@thomasfransson
@thomasfransson 6 күн бұрын
I can't answer on everyone's behalf but I've owned DRS for a couple of years and I open it every once in a while. But I'm still nowhere near as efficient in Resolve as I am in Premiere and despite all these years, I haven't had the time to put in the time and effort it would take to become as efficient in Resolve or at least get to a point where I'm able to make a decision on which NLE that fits me and my workflow the best. The coloring in DRS is great and the only reason why I've kept it installed. Although I've only graded a few test clips and based on my current knowledge of Resolve obviously took me way longer than it would have done in Premiere and as the results weren't better (again because I don't feel at home in Resolve) I can't defend myself going over to Resolve. And I can only assume this is the reason why alot of people stick with Premiere, they either don't have the time to migrate or maybe they're happy with their current workflow and don't see a reason to switch. On another note, there's a lot of Davinci Resolve users using Dehancer.

If possible, I find it best to have both Portra Picture Styles installed on the camera. Sometimes I've had just the STD installed, But under certain lighting conditions, for example, direct sunlight or very strong light, the STD tends to burn light colors like white, in that situation the EDR works much better. It has been very difficult for me to stick to just one, I always reinstall the EDR. I tend to take a lot of photos in direct sunlight and in that case the EDR gives me better results. In low light or controlled light conditions, the STD is better.

Thank you for sharing your experience. I wish I could have made just one profile, but had to break it up in two to make it easier in the end.

Thanks for the review! Sigma released this lens when I already had a Tamron 17-70. I didn't like the blur in Tamron, it wasn't stable :( On the Sony a6400, I did not notice the stabilizer working, especially on the video, the shaking at 70mm was stronger than at 105 on the Sony 18-105mm. The only advantage of the Tamron in front of Sigma is 70 mm. It's big, heavy, without a normal stabilizer and with a nervous background blur.

Sounds like you might have gotten a lemon or maybe the a6400 wasn't able to properly communicate with the lens due to age? But then again like I mentioned in the video - different type of shooters will favor one over the other ;)

@@thomasfransson um... Sony a6400 is a relatively new camera, that's A 6300 it was worse. But there 18-105 were stable so much that I got used to such a view, and 17-70 I did not get it. The second time I would not buy :(

As it works fine on the FX30 that was just an assumption that the older a6400 (released in spring 2019) might have something to do with it. As for the comparison with the 18-105 it's possible that the stabilization would work better as it's a Sony lens, a longer lens and thus possibly offer more stops of stabilization. The f2.8 aperture on the Tamron might also be a limiting factor when it comes to this what type of stabilization is possible to implement along with decisions on size, price and so forth. As I've never looked into why Tamron refers to their lens stabilization as Vibration compensation (I'm thinking micro jitters) rather than gimbal smoothness but that is another aspect to consider. After all these are photography lenses and both ibis and ois will certainly work better for stills than video. And while we're at it I think a lot of newer less experienced shooters might have their expectations set to high when it comes to stabilization whether it's in camera, lens or a combination of both. Let's also put into perspective the vast difference in shooting styles, shooting scenarios, people in general as well as technique. Personally I have rather shaky hands and even with Ibis it's hard for me to shoot steady once I approach 35mm on an aps-c camera. 23mm or wider is where I feel the most comfortable. Some people might have their cutoff at a wider focal length while others might be quite comfortable at 50mm for short takes. I can obviously shoot at 50 or 70mm but that will result in some jerks, no matter what setup I'm using as my hands are quite twitchy. Anyway - It looks like we have different experiences using this lens on our respective cameras and for what ever we've used it for. Personally I think it's a great lens for the right type of shooter and types of shoot. And as you've made quite clear, you're not overly enthusiastic about it based on your experience and shooting preferences.

@@thomasfransson you're right, everyone's styles are different, but I'm so outraged because I never expected to see shaking at Tamron's minimum focal lengths when I got used to a stable 18-105 picture at the same focal lengths. In any case, even the built-in Sony camera stabilizer is not such that you can shoot video, for a photo it is normal. thank you :)

Have you used stems in one of your videos?
