Arthur Lindsey I also took the Shilling and signed on for 3 years and 4 year on the reserves at Brooklands Avenue Cambridge so I could join the REME. I went to Blandford 19th January 1954 for 12 weeks training. Then went to Taunton for a trade training course to be a Vehicle Mechanic. Then got posted to BAOR at Celle to work in a LAD attached to the 12th regiment Royal Artillery. Lovely place. I remember going up to the Baltic coast on firing range shooting at a sock towed by a aeroplane. I went to Berlin to watch England play Germany in 1956. The LAD obtained a coach to hire out and I was lucky enough to be one of the drivers and traveled to lots of places in Germany like the Dams. My number was 2323**** and finished as a full Corporal and a first class Vehicle Mechanic. I also had a demob suit. Three happy years of my life. I still live in Cambridgeshire.

Thank you for posting this video. My Father had a similar experience to you, Called Up Jan. 1953, went in for three years to get a choice of Regt/Corps, went in to the Royal Engineers. Posted to Korea, then Hong Kong. The ship he trooped back on, funnily enough is on another You Tube video from a guy who trooped OUT , as my Old Man made the return trip. Demobbed Early 1956, my Old Man did get his recall notice. he though makes no secret of the fact he burned his notice in the fire. Like you my Old Man left the Army to be a draughtsman, in his case at Rolls Royce Hucknall/ Derby, working for "Royce's" for over forty years as well. Well thanks again, such a pity so little is now recalled of National Service.

Excellent ! Wish I knew how to do a Video with stills, music and titles !! Greetings from : 23250788 Corporal Elgar RAMC 1955-58, Royal Army Medical College Millbank, Royal Herbert Military Hosp Woolwich -- NEARLY sent to SUEZ but down for GERMANY -- Munster, Berlin, Iserlohn and NO Medals !

I presume you have Windows Movie maker, if so its easy. Get all the photos you want to download in to one file then down load into Movie Maker, then add comments and music as shown on the task bar. It's simple, and oddly more effective than a video. Movie Maker is an add-on the Windows standard package, so you if you haven't got it search on Windows website. I was called back for SUEZ, but I was without family ties so the whole thing was an adventure. Nice hearing from you.

Derrick: Thanks for the reply -- I have Windows 10 BUT I cannot find that 'Movie maker' thingy -- I took over this HP computer from my Daughter and I got the free upgrade to 10 ... I will have to ask my 'Technical Consultant' when he comes home from School !!
