Is there a reason you do a split chain for your gate+dirty amp and clean amp? Is it the same as running both amps inline and just turning either one amp on and off?
@ChrisDavisTGI21 күн бұрын
Yeah! Its so that I can run different blocks in front of each amp without trying to cram it all on one row. For instance, in this specific preset, I run a few different pitch effects and a tube screamer in front of my distorted amp that I dont need for the clean sound, and I run a compressor and delay before the clean amp that I don't need for the rhythm sound. Rather than cram it all on one row or have to compromise, doing the split lanes allows me to run different signal flows to each amp!

You don't ever run into issues with your IEM transmit antenna being that close to the DFin do you? I've run into loads of nightmares indoors with the DFin for wireless/receive. The rack looks insanely cool though!
@ChrisDavisTGI21 күн бұрын
Typically the set up is more like that Diversity Fin gets lifted up above the helical for the IEM's, it puts the two on different operating planes and we don't tend to have any issues that way. In this video I stopped mid set up to film a bunch of stuff so the antennas werent in their final positions! That being said, in scenarios where we've had limited space, we have run them as seen in this video, while its not the ideal way it has worked for us as well!

Hello again, I had a question if you dont mind. I was wondering if your custom is setup in drop a# or are you setup for drop d and using a pitch shifter or maybe vice versa? Im going to be setting up a guitar in drop a# specifically for you guys songs.. Ill be using ernie ball mammoths. Please let me know thank you.
@ChrisDavisTGI18 күн бұрын
Sorry for the late reply here! Historically we have played in 3 different tunings up to the latest record. Those were Drop B, #A and A. As of Searching For Solace we also play in, Drop D, C, G, F# and F as well. As far as the guitars physical tunings and pitch shifting, I typically try not to pitch shift more than a whole step if possible (Unless I'm doing and octave blend scenario), so my main guitar which is now my custom is tuned to Drop B, then I use pitch shifting to go down to A# and A. Then I have a separate guitar from the Drop D song and then a baritone 7 string I tune to Drop G that I then use pitch shifting to go down to F# and F! Hope that helps!

Could definitely do a shoot out for sure, I can tell you right away that there’s definitely a slight loss of sustain. It’s more noticeable on the higher, lighter gauge strings. It’s a trade off for sure, but it’s a trade off I’m willing to make!

Great video, love the walkthrough! Curious why you went with the toggle switch for voice 3 instead of wiring to position 2 and 4 on the switcher like a lot of people do. Is that because it’s just a 3 way switch on the guitar? Might have missed that explanation if you said it already. Keep posting videos!!
@ChrisDavisTGI2 ай бұрын
You know, I didn’t consider that, but I’m also not sure that this is even really a possibility. I say that because, in my understanding voice 3 isn’t truly a split coil sound, it’s simulated split coil sound that they do with some sort of black magic haha. I could be wrong though, I need to reach out to my Fishman rep and get more clarity on how they’re achieving this! The other side of that is, you are correct, it’s only a 3 way switch at the moment! Using the toggle switch to reach voice 3 also allows me to still use my push/pull tone pot to switch between voices 1 (standard active pick up voicing) and voice 2 (JB/passive style voicing) as well. So ultimately, we went with this configuration for ultimate flexibility and tonal options!

For sure, this is defintiely a great option now, it wasn’t released at the time that I made this video I believe. I also think I’d still lean toward the DC7 if I was making this board today. Hi Chris! I've followed your lead and gotten an EW-DP for my wireless guitar as well. Could you share the Gain settings you set on your device, Do you know what the correct gain for Unity is on these units? I've left my unit of -21dB (I'm using the CI1 cable with my EW-D SK transmitter) but I had to raise the input gain on the quad to 12dB (from 0.0dB) on my Quad to match my cable. I tried raising the gain on the unit itself but it seems to cause clipping. Any comments?

Good info man. I spent about 3 weeks with our singer's QC setting it up for him but didn't dig in too deep with the scenes and all the routing and what not. We do 90's cover rock so very straight forward. I've owned all of the modelers/profilers, spent a year with the AxeFX 3, downsized to the FM3, spent about 2 months with my review unit Tonemaster pro (which I LOVED) and recently picked up the nano cortex and after hearing my amp's profiled with that thing, it was game over. It pairs well with the HX stomp for slightly more robust effects but I wanted to consolidate into 1 unit... called up my dude at sweetwater and have a QC headed this way so I'm deep in the research phase of how to do some of the less basic stuff and this video gave me some good ideas. I feel like every digital device these days can pretty much do most of all the same stuff (other than some profiling and others not) so I'm just trying to gather as much info on the QC as I can before it arrives so that new device learning curve isn't as painful as it was with the Fractal... Geez... That thing was a nightmare but it's also obscenely powerful...way more than I needed.

Any reason to put your time based effects after cab sim? I usually run mine between amp and cab like a traditional set up. Lmk
@ChrisDavisTGI3 ай бұрын
Good question! Its a two part thing, first reason being that when I was running in the analog world, I preferred running my FX through the FX Loop on my amp and this is a bit closer to that signal flow. That would technically be putting the time based effects between the amp and cab blocks, but that plays into the next part. The second reason is I’m treating this a bit like I would in the DAW/Recording world where I would be adding delay/verb on a recorded amp single which would be adding it post amp and cab. There’s no right or wrong way to do it, it’s just a taste thing! My Wash It Away preset uses a delay block before the clean amp because I like the way it hits the input of the amp for that specific song, just totally a taste thing!

What are the multi-pin connectors you are using for audio and do you love them or wish you had gone in a different direction? I am currently trying to pick a lane for a much less demanding application and was waffling between ELCO/ADAT or the Tascam Db25 but I am open to other options. I probably only need a single 16 channel setup, so don't need a really dense pin count. Ty!
@ChrisDavisTGI3 ай бұрын
I love the multipin stuff! I wish maybe I chose a more universal version of a multipin connector but it’s a big time saver. How do you level the presets (the outputs). Do you have all scenes leveled the same, or do you e.g. boost the lead by a couple of dbs, lower the clean and so on? Many thanks for your answer
@ChrisDavisTGI5 ай бұрын
Hey this is a great question! I typically shoot to have the scenes pretty equal in volume. But I also have the luxury of a having a dedicated front of house engineer who knows when things needed to be boosted in the mix so I don’t have to worry about doing that on my end. If I didn’t have that though I would definitely be building in increases in output into the scenes that needed it!
@MihaOblishar5 ай бұрын
Hey Chris, the way i do it i assign the ouput blocks to scenes. I aim all scenes to have a output between peaking between -14.5 and -12.5 db. Of course the solo scenes are bit boosted. We also have our FOH engineer, but with our level in the band, we try to do as much work as possible. Just redone my bass preset, and im happy with the results. 2 plugins in 4 years since the promise of it being included along with basic functions that are only just arriving within last several months. Neural is a software company. I don’t understand their snail pace since releasing the QC. Think about it, the QC is almost a half a decade old. Industry standards suggest the hardware is about halfway through its lifecycle and they have not delivered on original promises.
@ChrisDavisTGI5 ай бұрын
🤷🏻♂️. I thoroughly enjoy my QC with or without the plug ins. I understand that to some, the plug ins were a big selling point, but they’re really not that important to me. And maybe it is halfway through its life cycle, even though that’s not what I’ve been told from people at NDSP, but I would rebuttal with the Kemper. The Kemper has not updated their hardware since it was initially released in 2012, they just keep repacking the same product into different form factors, but it’s still the same unit at heart. The Helix released 3 years later in 2015, and also has basically only been rehoused into different form factors. So really it sounds like you’re comparing the QC to the fractal products, who have been in the hardware amp modeling space for much longer and only have to worry about compatibility with their own hardware rather than marrying the DAW/PC world with a hardware unit that runs different chipsets. I can see your point, but Neural is delivering the product the fastest and best they can. I’d rather a product that works then them rush something out. And again, I was also content with my Quad with zero plug ins 🤷🏻♂️

Yeah for something as simple as changing the tuning, no need to get over complicated! I do hear a slight difference in the top end with transpose so I’m not 100% sure if I’ll keep that or go back to the pitch shifter, but for simplicity I really want to love the transpose more gHa

Interesting that people are buying a modeler for quite a lot of money to get plugins on it that are worth a hundred bucks. Honestly, I love the plugins from NDSP but I thought the modeling of the QC will exceed them. At least my Fractal does 😅
@ChrisDavisTGI5 ай бұрын
I don’t think people are buying it just for plug ins, but I do think that combining the DAW and live audio world is a pretty big deal. I’m pretty content with the stock QC sounds and for the most part am only implanting pieces of the plug ins into my presets. But there’s no wrong way to get the sound you’re looking for since it’s all subjective and preference, so if the plug ins are the sound you’re looking for then there’s nothing wrong with that in my opinion! Just like you’re fractal is a sound you enjoy, which is also totally fair and valid!

@ChrisDavisTGI5 ай бұрын
@@MatthiasBuesingI think the other side of it too is that the Neural DSP plug ins came first, so a lot of people fell in love with the sounds they were able to get with the plug ins before they were able to get their hands on the QC units, so combining the two is exciting
