It is "ukana" and when you use it to "yara otung" it transports you to the ancient of days. When properly prepared, "ukana" is a "hunger killer" which is eaten as the family waits for the meal to be ready.

Cassava is slimy when cooked! We make porridge from cassava. Antigua W.I.

We steam the banana leaf to cook Ducuna too. Our Ducuna uses sweet potato instead of oonene. I am sure my ancestors brought the fig leaf idea from Africa during slavery times.

Finger rose ( your oonene). Antigua.

Very interesting. We make bitter leaf soup in Sierra Leone with almost all the same ingredients with the exception of the cocoyam. In it's place we use egusi as the thickener. I want to try this one from Anambra state 😍

You're supposed to be open minded to carry out such adventures.... It's not their fault that you don't understand their food... As long as you said you loved it, it deserves "Cap removal" period!

We hardly hear about the Andoni people, thank you for the exposure. Wow, Ilaje are indigenous to Akwa Ibom too. I thought that Ondo state was their home, evidently this isn't the case. Needless to say the soups looked yummy.
