I did taste the 18 at Whisky Show London last year and I am a big fan of the 12, even got my self the 2022 bottling of the 12 Cask Strength recently.. considering to buy the 18 and as far as I remember I got some delicious dark chocolatey milk shake notes.. great review btw sir!!.. now I'm gonna watch your other reviews lol.. Hi Salty, thanks for the interest. This is one that could be on the fence as to whether to buy or not to buy. We know our palates can be somewhat different so when shelling out a couple hundred dollars we can feel it's a risky investment. I had a good evening with this whisky but have also had good evenings with less costly whiskies. It was a gift from my son and that probably made it even more special. I can say that it is a well made whisky that has spent it's life in good casks. I think the only criticism from myself and probably other reviewers goes back to the price.....is it good value for your money

In my humble opinion, this is a gem. This is the best 10 yr old (non CS) scotch I’ve ever had. Period. My only regret is I didn’t buy out the rest of the bottles at $50 when I had the chance. Luckily I did stash away 3 bottles. I’m not sure any other bottling of similar age or Nas in their core range shines as much . Hopefully they’ll do a 10 yr old again and it is relatively as good as this.

@@CountryB4Party That is just confirmation bias. You want to continue to hold the man in high regard. Slapping his name on a bottle of fucking booze is a problem on that front, so you had two choices: accept it and have it alter your beliefs, or destroy the message of the person online who brought it to your attention. Given the two choices, it's no surprise which route you took. But the fact remains. He sold out.

I don’t know him, so my only opinion of him is a reflection of his public image. Have you literally never watched an interview with Dylan? From day one he rejected the role of being a spokesperson or a symbol for anything. He pissed off the folkies by going electric. He shocked the hippies by going country. He shocked everyone by releasing gospel albums. Now he’s disappointed you by “selling out.” Every label someone has tried to pin on him he’s thrown back into their faces. He’s basically an iconoclast with a fine tuned hypocrisy detector. Sorry if you think I tried to destroy your message. If it was that easy to destroy, it wasn’t much of a message.

I didn't find their whiskies pricy at the distillery as compared to the other distilleries. What I found was the lack of availability of their whisky. I had a chance to drink both whiskies. I look at them as both decent whiskies but still being different. The 18 with the brown label has a 2nd additional finish in first-fill ex-bourbon barrels. The newer white canister 18 is fully matured in refill ex-bourbon, so to me the bourbon oak influence seemed lighter. There seems to be a lot more going on that I preferred in the Brown Label but that is my palate and opinion. They both are still good whiskies and the Deanston distillate character can really express itself with it's full maturation in the bourbon casks. Slàinte Mhath

The current situation with Springbank reminds me of what happened to Weller 12yo about a decade ago - that used to be my go-to bourbon when it was $27.00/bottle. Then some people noticed that it had the same or very similar mashbill as Pappy, then prices and availability went nuts. Your review seems to indicate that Springbank are maintaining the quality of their whisky, so that's something. It's kind of ironic that the distillery sees almost nothing of all the money that's changing hands in the secondary market, but at least they can be sure of selling all they make while the bubble lasts. It's Dutch tulip mania all over again.
@noelsworldofwhisky82084 ай бұрын
I am with you on Weller and the price of Pappy today.....I have a bottle from years ago but I had a chance to buy a couple at our BCL special release if I wanted to stand in a line up early in the morning. Visited the distillery in June. We arrived on a Saturday afternoon at 1 pm so we didn't have to worry about lineups, and surprisingly there was a shelf full of the 12 year old cask strength Springbank, the new Longrow Red 7 year old Pinot Noir, and an open day Hazelburn bottling. The cage bottles were heavily picked over and no regular 10 or 15 year old Springbanks. Not sure if we just got lucky, but I can't imagine having to wait in a lineup for over 2 hours and potentially not even get what you were hoping to grab. Glad to hear you got some good ones though!

I have Tali-10 stocks from 1991, 2001 and 2011 . . . then stop buying . . . quality worsens with each passing decade, sadly . . . and the Tali18 lost alot of m=smoke, 18 is best with batch 1 and 2 then things go downhill : less oily, less smoke, less tar-ry, less concentrated, . . .

I'm impressed. You have saved some real old stock. I had a few as well; a NAS Glenfiddich & Glenlivet single malt from the late eighties and an Oban 14 from the early '90s which were finished a couple years ago. Drinkable but very oxidized. I had a Macallan 18 from 1998 and transferred the last couple drams into a smaller bottle to prevent the oxidizing. Then after 2000 I had the Ardbeg ten, Laphroaig ten, Talisker ten and I have saved the Lagavulin 16. There's a few more but in my younger years we were drinking blended scotches. I didn't get into single malts until the eighties.
