I asked an acquaintance the other day (that told me that they love Scotch Whisky) "Have you ever had a bottle of Springbank?" and their answer was "Spring What?" "Never heard of it!"
We whisky Geeks think that anyone that knows something about Scotch surely knows about one of the hardest to get whiskies. And most of these folks do know something about Scotch whisky as well as some of the popular single malts like Glenfiddich, Glenlivet, Macallan, Glenmorangie, Lagavulin, etc. etc. and a few others that are at most of our liquor stores. Over here in Canada you do not see Springbank anywhere, period. So how will these folks know about this whisky since a liquor store is the only marketing source of information and visual identification for them. If you never see it you will probably not know anything about it.
You think that Springbank should be concerned about that. Probably not because they can't keep up to the market demand as it is. And that is not a bad problem to have; the demand exceeding the supply.
My first bottle of Springbank was given to me by my son fifteen years ago and i haven't got a clue where he got it from. I remember asking him and he said he wasn't sure, probably one of four places. That's probably because it was not as hard to get back then and even though it was recommended as a really good single malt it didn't stand out as a rare whisky.
Today I would have a real problem finding it out here in on Vancouver Island or the rest of BC and probably across Canada. That is why I was so focused on coming back with a couple Springbank bottles from my Scotland tour. So let's get into the ever so popular Springbank Ten and see if it lives up to the glory it is given. Enjoy the video. Slàinte Mhath
