Hi you got a new sub and I wanted to tell u that I found a full 2 hour tape of this one... I was having trouble finding info about Hot Rail Productions online then I found your channel after searching names in the tape credits... the 807 and 808 was one of my favorite trains since I was maybe 4 years old so I watched that tape a lot. 😊❤ I was 12 years old when I bought tape in September 1999 at the NYS Fairgrounds after I came home from my summer in Japan where i have family... this was back when those E Units at the NYS Fair had a whole exhibit and gift shop inside that I loved going to. If u can remember there was little bedroom exhibits in train cabs connected to the 807 and 808 and the Hot Rail Productions tape played in the passenger cab on a little CRT hanging from the ceiling. It was in the gift shop I bought it. Last week I uploaded the full tape tho I unpublished it after I saw you were the owner... initially I was unaware of the ownership status 😯thinking it was lost footage so my sincere apoligies. 🙊It quickly got like 120 views with 2 likes in the matter of 5 days then I unpublished it after I found out you were the owner. 😅 I think I have a few other Hot Rail Productions from that era full tapes... it seems like they could be popular uploads for u to upload. considering with the views I had in 5 days. I was a train girl growing up and I still like trains. Would u happen to have an email where I can send to you the full video file of the tape? And perhaps others I may have? Thank u ^_^ - Nini

@@Nini-yc8hc Thank you for Commenting and Watching this video, interesting story behind it i will share with you. My friend and I at the time were the owners of Hot Rail Productions, we produced vhs tapes at first and later produced DVD'S for railfans. I am a railfan myself and I was the narrator of all the videos we produced. We would sell our train videos online and also at train shows in Ohio, Pennsylvania and New York. A couple times we were vendors in Michigan as well. We actually had a following at the time and became somewhat popular with railfans who liked the videos we produced. At one of the train shows we attended I believe it was in Syracuse a man stopped by our display we had set up and asked if we would be interested in producing a video of the 1998 NHRS Convention. We gladly accepted and took on the job. I spent a week recording all the various footage and about 2 weeks editing the footage for the video and also wrote out the narration for the video. A lot of work went into putting that video together and we got it done in record time. The Cental New York Chapter of the NHRS was anxious to have it completed as soon as possible. Sounds like you purchased a copy of the 1998 vhs tape we produced for the Syracuse Chapter of the National Historical Railroad Society. Hot Rail Productions still lives on in a way and I plan on bringing that name back to my KZbin channel, also on Ebay Hot Rail Productions videos still can be found, I am Proud of my part I played in Hot Rail Productions and I actually was the one who came up with the name Hot Rail Productions! Also I believe the two E8 locomotives are somewhere in New York in a sad shape of disrepair (sounds doubtful if they will ever operate again). On a positive note my time spent with Hot Rail Productions lead me to my dream job for the past 14 years, I am a shortline locomotive engineer and I operate locomotives and trains daily from Monday through Friday and I truly enjoy it! Thank you for reaching out to me and Commenting any other questions please feel free to ask. 👍

@@markjl261 Awesome I am happy to hear from you and still living your train dream and doing good! (^_^) That is a sweet story and yes the 1998 N.H.R.S. Convention is the tape that I bought. I still have it complete with the cover art front and back... you did a great job on it and watching it now me at 37 years old it has a real nostalgia to how I remembered the 1990s as a kid in the Syracuse area with my love for trains... i love seeeing the 807 and 808 in action too on the video, tho I too also from my research that they are in bad shape nowadays for over a decade... the fisrt time I went into them was in 1991 or 92. Aesthetically at that time they looked relatively modern for 1950s trains. I was surpsied they were that old when I read the history on them in a brochure where the E8 locomotives were being produced when steam locomotives were still being made. Quite innovative if u ask me where in my childhood the E8's aged well but it's too bad they got neglected. 😐 Digging around my stuff I found another Hot Rail Productions tape I think of Conrail from the year 2000 in the Buffalo NY area, tho I have not digitized that one like the E8 unit one yet... I plan to digitize it next time I get free time to watch with my boyfriend. I have a decent collection of rail fan tapes from Pentrex, Green Frog Productions and others so i was quite an active consumer in that scene then. That would be exciting if u decide to revive Hot Rail Productions on KZbin. I would happily look forward to it and if you happen to be missing any full videos in your collection I might have them. I would be More than happpy to find stuff for you... I even help my boyfriend find 1990s wrestling shows as that is a hobby that I share with him where I have given him Japanaese tapes. Somehow I unintentionally become a magnet for lost videos! Giggles. 😅 Some train tapes I brought with me back to Hokkaido, Japan to watch at my grandparents house where I spent a good chunk of my life... some stuff I still have over there. I personally think a Hot Rail Productions revival would do well seeing how 1990s and early 2000s nostalgia is going strong... and the short time I left the whole tape up it got good videos and likes. So there is still a niche for that. my boyfriend who does not have the “train background” even enjoyed watching such train videos with me where it takes him back to life at a simpler time. He is a computer guy and he was wondering what video editor you used? he thinks it was probably a Windows 95 movie maker.
@markjl2612 ай бұрын
@@Nini-yc8hc we did the editing without a computer, at the time when we edited and produced the NHRS video we had set up a editing studio with some quality editing decks. If I remember correctly we used dark fades and the Sony Camcorder we used had some in camera dissolves. Also over the years I received some interesting comments that made me smile, I had a young man comment that one our Hot Rail Productions Videos that someone bought at a garage sale helped him to become a railfan! I also had another person comment that he was on those trains during the 1998 NHRS as a young person and now he is a Norfolk Southern Railroad locomotive engineer! It makes me happy that the Hot Rail Productions videos brought joy to people who watched and purchased them. Another interesting story that is worth sharing, I had a shortline railroad employee of the AC&J Railroad approach me at the Mentor Ohio train show and also asked if we could put together a video for them and we gladly accepted! I became friends with the owner of that 7 mile railroad and the locomotive engineer who asked about producing a video for them, the AC&J Railroad is where I learned how to operate a locomotive and switch out Rail cars. Happily because of the AC&J Railroad and the experience I received from working part there helped me to get where I am today as a locomotive engineer on a shortline railroad in Texas for the past 14 years. I am still great friends with the AC&J Railroad owner and engineer to this day. Your comment and reaching out to me about the NHRS 1998 Convention video is also another treasure I can add to my Memory of being part of Hot Rail Productions. I watch the videos we produced from time to time and it makes my heart rejoice when I receive comments such as yours!

Starting with the 7000 series from Union Pacific were the dubbed AC6044CW convertibles. At 7500 series was when they were getting true AC6000CW's which didn't last long on the roster. As a matter of fact the 7510,7511,and 7512 were the AC6000CW's that actually were suppose to go to Southern Pacific as 600,601,and 602 but never did because of the merge. The only way to tell the three units apart from the others was the placement of the ditch lights. 7511 in particular was returned by Union Pacific to GE and became GECX 6001 in their lease fleet. The AC6000CW's were problematic and mainteance demanding on turbochargers and crankshafts. Every three months these units needed to be in the shops. Despite the "wheel hop" issues these units when working were absolutely incredible in terms of tractive effort and dynamic braking. Union Pacific rebuilt all of the remainder AC6044CW's into C44ACM's and was doing the same to their AC6000CW's.

@@markjl261 I vividly remember the AC6000CW's in my area many years ago when Union Pacific still had them in high usage. Union Pacific loved using the AC6000CW's for rock and coal trains and thirdly for intermodal traffic if had to be. On top of that I still remember the C40-8's and GP60's within the same time frame on rock trains which made for some odd and in some cases rare lash ups. The SD9043MAC's were another primary choice for coal trains but I hardly remember them as trailing or leading units because they always seemed to be favored as middle and rear DPU's. I didn't know Southern Pacific wanted the AC6000CW's either. Apparently the three units I mentioned were already painted and awaiting at GE but then Union Pacific made them repaint those right then and there. It would've been unique if there was three patched AC6000CW's randomly roaming the system! It's just like the 6 SD80MAC's that CNW really planned on purchasing which would've been in their Operation Lifesaver scheme. Case in point it was the Union Pacific merge that discontinued something that would've happened. As for CSX they sold nearly all of their CW60AC's to PRLX to avoid extra taxes and just because of costs and PSR. Evidently 601 & 602 "Spirit of Waycross" are still on the roster but in storage yet nobody knows what CSX plans to do. CSX unlike Union Pacific didn't rebuild their units but derated them for the most part. The derated units were CW46AH's or CW46AC's and the selected handful of rebuilt units were CW44-6's. Some CW46AC's since then have been sold to shortlines but a certain amount of actual CW60AC's were exported to FMG in Australia for ore train service. Just like the export SD90MAC-H's,the CW60AC's over there were inevitably scrapped. Thank you for sharing your footage! I loved hearing the immense "thump" bounded with rapid chugging of those units. It's similar to the sounds of the U30C's-U33C's or B30/C30's & B36/C36-7's from back in the day and the C44-9W's because of the so called "bathtub" exhaust manifolds including the C41-8's which were somewhat just as loud and echoed!

Thank you for Watching and Commenting! I appreciate it. I recorded this footage over a course of several years. From a recent visit to Erie and the area along with posts I see on Facebook sadly things have changed at Wallace Junction. The Bessemer on rare occasions goes all the way to the former interchange location with the Norfolk Southern (N&W) at Wallace Junction. Several yard tracks have been removed and this location has been downsized. Norfolk Southern does run mainline trains through the area from Conneaut to Buffalo as before, I'm sure there probably isn't a daily NS local delivering cars to Wallace Junction like in the past. I use to spend a lot of time at this location also years ago, just like with most railroads every thing changes with time. My brother and I had many friends that worked for the N&W and the Bessemer who would let us ride with them in the cabs of the locomotive, things were a lot different 45 years ago compared to now. I have a lot of Great Memories and I am Happy I was able to take photos and videos of how this area and the Erie area use to be! Thanks again for watching and commenting! 👍

This brings back memories when I worked for Penn Central out of my hometown Emporium as a trackman during summers from Penn State. I started in ‘68 not long after the merger with the Pennsy. Our crew worked our way north (opposite of this video) from Emporium, staying in a camp car M-F. The southbound grade from Keating Summit to Emporium is notable for a approx 7-mile 2.6% stretch, the steepest in Pa, and is the subject of a recently published booklet of true stories that I am reading by Paul Haynes, “It Happened On Keating Summit Hill”. The worst incident was a southbound NS derailment at 70mph in 2006 releasing chemicals into the creek killing 30 miles of fish. It was routine to only take half the cars to Emporium on this stretch then return to Port Allegany for the others. As I came back from college each summer, work was progressing north, to Eldred, then into N.Y. to Olean, Franklinville, and Delevan. My last summer started in June ‘70 when Penn Central went bankrupt, and I remember our camp cook having troubles with the local grocery stores taking the company check! Thank you Mark for posting your excellent video.

Thanks for Watching this video and commenting on it! I was actually the engineer on this train and worked on this line for quite a few years, a lot has taken place since this video was recorded and posted. At the time of recording the Blacklands Railroad that I still work for was the designated operator of this former SSW Cotton Belt line that extended from Mount Pleasant, Texas all the way to Fort Worth, Texas. Going on 4 years ago a different operator was appointed to operate the line named the North East Texas Connector Railroad (NETC) by the NETEX Board. I believe they operate to Greenville,Texas 2 or 3 times a week and to Mount Pleasant, Texas 2 times a week. The NETC Railroad does work the line 6 days a week and possibly 7 days a week if needed. Sulphur Springs, Texas is their base of operation and where you will find their two lease locomotives most of the time. At Sulphur Springs is the former Cotton Belt Depot where the main office of the Blacklands Railroad is located, across the street is where the office of the NETC Railroad is located. The Blacklands Railroad still operates the east end of the railroad from Winfield to Mount Pleasant, the NETC Railroad has trackage rights across this portion of the railroad from Winfield to Mount Pleasant. I hope this is helpful and not too confusing. One other note, the train in this video was basically a test train, we were hauling gondola loads of road Asphalt at the time from Mount Pleasant to Greenville. I believe we moved a total of 12 trains in all before the project ended.

You are very welcome! I sure am thankful I was able to record this Conrail action before it all became part of railroad History! Thank you for watching and commenting, I appreciate it!

At Texas Junction, what is the other line that diverges off the Shreveport Sub?
@markjl261 Жыл бұрын
That would be where the Greenville Subdivision starts going west towards Wylie, Texas. Four scheduled KCS trains use the Greenville Subdivision daily, along with occasional extra trains. I will be making a KCS Farewell video of the KCS Greenville Subdivision soon! Thanks for posting your comment, I appreciate the views!

Thanks for the Compliment! I have other videos on this KZbin channel when this part of the former NKP mainline had NS Trains pass over the former 19th street line in Erie, Pennsylvania!

@@markjl261 I grew up in Silver Creek NY, and the same NS and Conrail/CSX mainlines pass through there, lots of trains when I was a kid.

@@jstoli996c4s I lived in Erie, Pennsylvania my entire life until age 49, I moved to Texas in 2010 to fulfill my life time dream of getting a job on a railroad as a shortline locomotive engineer. This April 29th makes 13 years if being a engineer for me and I still enjoy it. That part of the Country in New York and Pennsylvania are Great Places to be a railfan and watch trains! Awesome that you are from that area, I definitely enjoyed the Conrail days from the time Conrail came about and up to the pre takeover of Conrail by NS and CSX.

Definitely was unbelievable to see in person. Not only is it Dangerous it is also illegal and comes with a costly traffic ticket if caught by the police.
