Loving the build so far, got into it after seeing the Allegro, been a long time since I've binge watched anything!

Looks good. I would try it with less wide cill . It doesn't fit the proportions. ie. I wouldn't get so hung up on trying to use the cill to make the car look super low

I agree with you 100%. It is a work of art, an example of master craftsmanship.

There’s a really cool green rover SD1 group 2 car (from the early 80s) with similar skirt profile that has rounder arches that I think could work well on the princess

Loving this build 🙌 Watched few videos on this way back from Johnny's Allegro build, we had a (2.2 i think)bronze Princess, late 70s early 80s loved that car as a kid 😀 sounded nice and went some too.😊 Your fab work is fantastic 👏 👌 you got new Sub. 👍

The fact this only has 16k views is pretty criminal. You've made the best sounding GT3 in the world and the youtube algorithm is keeping it secret.

Hi Adam, I have watched six of these on the bounce. Having done a sympathetic restoration on my MG TF, which I needed to fabricate new rear sections for the sills, I find your engineering and fabricating detail absolutely fascinating! I wouldn't know where to begin! The Allegro project is really cool as well. At least you have a bit more freedom with the Princess. I did body and paint on those when they were relatively new and yes the build quality was really poor. (S...T! to be blunt!) Gary.

Hi mate, really enjoyed watching, and actually been pretty emotional. Have an 83 Mk1 Golf GTI (Mk1Golf Dot co Dot uk) that I've owned for years, always planned to rebuild it with my Dad who was an engineer. But we lost him very unexpectedly and well...been really struggling/become unwell myself. Been gaining a little inspiration from your vids although can't see me ever being able to have the best car I ever owned on the road again. 😢 My actual fave car of all time is the Manta 400, and between watching the last episode and this one I was wondering if the 400 body kit could have been utilised, nice wide round rear arches, sills and tapering front wings. It's looking great now anyway, I think the round style rears are much better suited to the princess. Cheers, and all the best.
@TekNeil5 ай бұрын
Oh, for what it's worth, I think bringing the rear and front edges down anf flaring inwards rather than rounding would be better. No doubt you'll find the best method that you'll be happy with though.

Knowing how fussy you are, it must be hard not to go for a full resto? I purchased a do'er upper, started to collect panels, then whilst poking around with a screwdriver, decided i'm gonna be chasing rust for the rest of its life . . . Bit the bullet, bought a new shell!

I understand if the engine choice has already been decided but if not have a look at Nissan micra cg13de conversions, they won't set the world on fire but they fit in an unmodified body and develop decent power straight out of the box for much less $ than modifying the A series. I've done the conversion and I'm delighted with it, for someone with your fab skills it'd be a piece of cake, you could also turbo it if required although room would start to get tight. PS: don't get put off by published engine hp figures the standard engine is choked down by both inlet and exhaust manifolds which need to change anyway.

I saw a mini custom build the other day with the front bonnet/lights/bumper etc, all cut off and made into a full front tipper in order to put a bigger engine in. It may have even come completely off the front to gain full access
@neilbedford50827 ай бұрын
I did this to one of mine years ago - just welded the wings, front panel and bonnet together to make a steel flip front, then shortened the inner wings and added brace bars between the stubby inner wings and the front edge of the subframe. It could hinge or could come off completely - made engine access lovely but its not for the purist.

You can get inner / outer sills sections which are a complete section and it also goes into the front floor pan section. You can get them from Darlington.

Perhaps straightening out the original boot floor would have been easier and still stronger than gluing in a carbon panel and a 'rotisserie' pole through the speedometer hole and the matching hole behind the rear seat back would make the restoration of the floor a more pleasant endeavour?

Unfortunately the boot floor was too crusty to repair!

It’s great seeing 40 yr old cars being restored and definitely have a soft spot for Mini’s…. It’s a great shame that this will no longer be a thing as no one will ever restore an EV in 40yrs time…..they will be thrown away 😢

Were you ever tempted to delete the back seat and move the bulkhead and the front seats backwards into the interior, like an MX5? I'm just thinking about how to give the engine some space.
@FabCoUK7 ай бұрын
Sounds like a lot of work. There’s plenty of space in the Mini engine bay for an A-Series engine 🙂
