I had a red kite following one of my wings earlier in the week too... it cruised along the slope edge just above the model at about 30ft height. When I landed, it carried on circling around the model.... magical stuff!

Looks excellent! Where is your CG at? My FVT3 still has a rather steep glide angle, I think due to CG a bit too far forward of the sweet spot. Do have a gyro / stabilizer installed? Regards, Arjan, Holland
@jetplaneflyer
@jetplaneflyer 3 ай бұрын
CG is about 80mm back from the tip of the nose. No gyro fitted. This is the new version, I have the old one too and it certainly benefits from a gyro. The significant change I think is that the new one doesnt have dihedral which greatly reduces Dutch roll tendency.

hello steve, nice video 😊 did you buy your aresti from rgmcn? how heavy is your model and is the quality okay?
@jetplaneflyer
@jetplaneflyer 8 ай бұрын
Martin, yes it’s from rgmcn. I went for full carbon which probably adds a bit of weight at the rear making the model a bit heavier. It’s about 2.3kg. It does ok in moderate winds but as you would expect isn’t a ‘floater’. Quality is very good, no complaints at all.

I’ve done some testing on a few makes of lipo to get IR. I found it is very important to keep them at the same temperature and charge level when doing comparative tests. A warmer cell of say 25C versus 20C (Centigrade) can change IR from say 11 to 7 milli ohms. I’ve tried cycling some 35C 2200 cells that have IR of 12 to see if it improves but it didn’t. I’ve got 12 year old 20C 2200 Rhino cells IR around 7 that have much lower IR than new similar Overlander cells. I find a lot of the C ratings are just complete fantasy. There is a big forum collecting IR data and trying to put true C ratings against cell capacity and IR values. How can a 2200 50C rated pack possibly put out over 100 Amps when the typical SC60 connector is only rated at 60Amps burst current, and yet that’s what it is stating by the ratings. I just wish we could be given true representative info from the manufacturers rather than lies.

Wellll it flies . But in all seriousness: What advantage (if Any ?) does a pure wing give over the typical planform that 99.99% of aircraft use. Prandtls notions are 100 years old. More than ample time for their merits to be evaluated .. and superceeded

ah...one thing you did not mention...after binding you need to do a frequency fine-tune (choose 'freqtune' icon under 'bind' icon and tune each direction to find the strongest signal) as it may not have the correct signal strength. Once you finetune the signal your good to go.

RC slope soaring is a great hobby. There is something special and very rewarding about flying on only rising air currents with no motor or propeller to assist, plus it gets you out to some beautiful places. Give it a go!

@@jetplaneflyer thanks Steve, I'm seriously considering it. I'd love to learn to fly one and as a family we love walking so it would be a great way to get out and explore the country aswell. Is there a set up you could recommend for a complete beginner?
@jetplaneflyer
@jetplaneflyer 11 ай бұрын
Dave, sorry, missed your last message. For a beginner something made from foam is not a bad shout as they dont need building and they bounce when crashrd. You could do a lot worse than the dream flight Alula, it packs down small so easy to carry when you are out on a walk and they fly really nicely. You would need servos, a receiver, transmitter and flight battery, but the dealer you buy from I'm sure would make recommendations. For a Transmitter the Radiomaster Zorro is good if you want something compact and portable but still very capable.

Difficult to see the aircraft when it's so far away. I was surprised to see how high it was getting when you were flying, though parallel to, but so far out away from the slope. What was the damage? Was it repairable? Did you ever discover why it lost control & crashed? Inquiring minds want to know.

What's the beeping sound from your tx? Anyway, you don't have to do smack 3D to have fun. Your video shows what most pilots with a bit of persistence will be able to achieve, and it is an absolute joy to be able to pilot an RC helicopter in this fashion. I also received a Viva Magenta M4, eagerly awaiting a suitable size battery to maiden it.
