What is the black sliding knob on the right side for? How is it used?
@jonhammes6209

That is a line out clicker, or bait clicker. Once your bait is in the water, back off the drag, set the clicker. If a fish hits it will alarm you with a noise, and hopefully you won't have your rod and reel pulled into the water

Thanks for the Tutorial just got my 60s ambassadör 5000 in the mail today and i stripped it down and washed it all out regreased&lubed everything and the only difference in our reel that there was a black nylon washer below the white spacer up to the handle or bushing . Other than that pretty much the same reel ive got a single handle on mine just because om a clumbsy retriever . Their totalt worth that low $ for a reel in this condition i payed 31$ with shipping it would have been around 50-60$ if it were a 60s handle on it . Pike fishing in Emån tomorrow here in Sweden ! I actually been to the Svängsta factory back in 2003 i had an internship in Mörrum at the Fishfarmery down there . Tight lines and Thanks again for the Tutorial (cant find one in Swedish funny huh ? ) Regards Paul-Roger Nilsson South Sweden

It could be a number of things. Remove the cap on the line guide and make sure the pawl is in there Second could be the gear that rotates the worm gear could be broken or not engaged to the main gear. It's really hard to say without looking at it

Thanks for the video! I have a 763 and it's a very nice reel. Also a question....have you ever worked on a Heddon Heritage 45 Mark III? I have one with the pouch, paperwork, etc. Near perfect cosmetically and works perfectly, so the risk vs reward isn't there for me to take it apart at the moment. Still, I'm curious what it looks like inside if there's a video out there somewhere. Thx!

Love These Videos!! I just love all the vintage stuff!! John , thank you for making these videos, i collect vintage reels mysef. It's a shame soo many people think that a quality reel is the one with the most ball bearings, when its metallurgy first followed by the location of the bushings or bearings. I learned to appreciate good brass bushings when fishing saltwater.

@jonhammes6209

Start out with about a half a spool of line, 20lb test max. Install the centrifugal weights on the spool. Let the rod do the work, don't try to overcast it, just let it load up and swing it forward while thumbing the inside of the spool, not the line. Feather it until whatever your casting nears the water then put the brakes on it with your thumb! Practice, practice, practice
