@ReachFilms13 сағат бұрын
When I made this video there was a whole debate from people super reputable in the film industry that 16-bit linear raw (that ProRes raw is) is equal to 12-bit log. This videos almost a year and a half old and people behind the codecs have come out of the woodwork and disproved that. But this video is quite old at this point I may make a new video and update the info

Are you using Wi-Fi or Ethernet on the Mac mini? I’ve read where placing docks or ext drives under the M4 mini impacts the WiFi antenna signal that’s at the bottom of the Mac, so placing this on top would probably be better if using WiFi.

besides the SandiskG40, this seems to be one of the only turn-key ways to get beyond the typical 900mb r/w speeds we've all struggled with the last several years with the normal T7 or Sandisk Extreme style SSDs. If in fact the drive performs well under typical/heavy load for several hours at a time, seems like a good value. Most of my external SSDs slow down after an hour or so of heavy editing, be great to have a better solution in this regard. thanks for the vid!

"it looks nice" is the only positive i could give about this thingy. a mac mini can go up to 8tb (using the pro model) this thing adds 1/3 of the height of a mac mini, can only add 4tb and your version can only do 40gbps (tb5 does 80) and does not handle its heat issues well. imho that case should be able to add 16tb or more and keep its cool.

@@ReachFilms I've got myself really confused about which Mac Mini to upgrade to. I currently have an M1, which has been and frankly still is great, but I am finding myself working with more and more 6K footage and it is definitely showing. My question is, is it a case that using 6K means the M4 Mini Pro is my best option, and what configuration is the best for getting the most out of it without overkill but also has me sitting pretty for a few years? If you think I can configure the base to get the similar performance and value, I'm all ears. Thanks for your time.
@ReachFilms3 күн бұрын
@ it depends on what kind of 6k codec you are using and how complex your edits are. The base model handles my red Komodo 6k footage just fine and same with my blackmagic 6k footage, but those are good codecs easy to handle for modern computers. Also I haven’t edited a feature film on the base model Mac mini. So with those factors if you have super complex edits or using a non traditional 6k codec maybe take the plunge and go for the m4 pro
