I live in Eastern Europe, crochet hair is a fashion choice here (the society is 99% white, only recently we started to have some representation of other skin colors and cultures, but it's still tiny :(). In my city there is one salon owned by a black lady and her version of truth (sarcasm here) is that "it is supposed to hurt, bumps are normal, if your skin hurts/burns/whatever just use this and that cosmetic". After my first two months with crochet curls I lost so much hair above my forhead :((. Until I watched your video I thought that every single girl with crochet curls goes through this pain and braids pulling out my hair from my scalp are normal. Thank you so much for recording this! Btw, I have a question - I know that having crochet curls while being white in the US would be seen as cultural appropriation. Would it still be the case in a part of the world where we didn't have slavery/colonies etc.? I have no one to ask here, the place I had my hair done at is black-person-owned and employs only women of colour and the service is extremely expensive - so I guess their opinion would be that it's not a problem if a white girl has this hairstyle because they make money of it (well, the owner does).

This was my experience since I was a kid. After braids, I'd be in pain for 3 days. I was told I was too "tender headed", as if experiencing pain is some kind of disability. I have since gotten locs that i maintain myself because I dont want a loctician over twisting my roots.

🎉😲👉🏾I have personally watched hateful African hair braiders snatch black American children and women’s hair out while interlocking locs & braiding hair!!! Never leave your precious children alone at their salons. Hairstyling should not hurt our children 😢! We need to leave the plantation with that mentality of popping kids with combs & scaring little boys with hot or too sharp clippers! 😢🧒🏾👧🏻👧🏿👧🏽👶🏽👦🏻😢 steam from hot combs and flatirons on scalps & ears isn’t a funny memory for most of us. It was a way our parents abused us! I suffered many intentional burns & hairloss. But couldn’t get help because people thought it was normal or I wouldn’t sit still. 😢

As a white woman at 30yo who has styled her natural, curly hair that will never stay straight over 30 minutes no matter WHAT, thank you for letting everyone be part of the natural hair movement. I’ve been through so much hair hate, especially during the 2000’s for not having straight hair… because of this damaging my hair constantly when I was younger trying to fit the “norm” or “beauty standard”. Why can’t we all embrace our natural hair? I am honestly so envious of 4c hair and straight hair, I think the variety is interesting and tells about your ancestry. But I also love myself for who I am, and even though my hair texture isn’t usually labeled as “white hair”, I am in fact, white. The fact some women say can’t include white women when I can’t do anything about the fact my hair is naturally curly/wavy makes me feel more inclined to get more damage to my hair to get it straight. I don’t get why everyone can’t be included. Everyone, of all races, is beautiful, with many different hair types that should all be embraced. I’m happy for the past decade I got past trying to get my hair straight and let my waves and curls flow, I get compliments all the time and my hair is finally healthy and somewhat long.

Im white but my dads mixed so I got a huge afro and big lips. I could only go to school with it contained because if not I'd be pulled out for being a "distraction", and i was teased so much for my lips and puffy afro, so to all of the people saying we dont experienced discrimination I'm proof.

If people who are not in other communities can be allies to them. I think not necessarily in the community ; I'd want to be a voice and stand up for anyone that is being discriminated against because of their hair. The more voices we have to go against the wrong the more successful. Like supporting acceptance in the work place and schools for all hair styles. Teaching about micro aggressions. Education is key for sure.

@@nashaeshantell girl “adult hairs”… they absolutely have their place!!! I was in braids for 6mos and had a frontal no dang issues!!! I got some Senegalese twists with the twisted root and it was over… Soon as i don’t say hey leave out my edges I’m back at square one!!! Snatched bald!!! I shaved my head bald last year and was making good progress… I’m so devastated… I almost jus said fuqq this and shaved it again!!! I took the perimeter out early on but it was still too late!!! Like why tf would you make these little sections into a twist on their own?! So I’ve been babying my hair for the last month or so… nothing but wash and goes!!! Ugh! Lesson learned… I surely knew better.🤦🏾‍♀️

🎉It’s not healthy & you can’t convince me that putting caustic chemical on hair is healthy! The dangerous chemicals in it stuff goes into the bloodstream and builds up over time in the body. 😮 It’s a high risk to take with your health. Don’t pay 💰 for your own death ☠️!!! That also means watch what you eat, drink, & bathe with. The water is even contaminated now. Look at Flint, parts of Louisiana, Ohio!!!! 😮 Don’t give up and into doing it because 🥴 “We’re all going to die someday…. Everything has chemicals, blah blah BS.” 🥴. Save your own lives. And save your money 💰. Toxic products ARE avoidable!!! Find a better 100% natural alternative. JUST THROW THE CHEMICALS AWAY!!!!! One at a time. That’s what I’m doing everyday till all that crap is out of my life. Some things have been hard to part with but with 2 minutes of research 🧐 and I can find an all natural alternative.

Make sure you drink LOTS, LOTS, AND LOTS of water for hair growth and strength! Drink more water than anything else! Especially more than coffee, soda, and alcohol. The more I drunk water along with some intermittent fasting, the more strong my hair became and more it has grown.

I love this. However, for me, I wouldn't do it because hair is sacred, and when others touch your hair, you get a residue from them that stays with you until cleansing. To me, all hair types are beautiful.

Why are we still trying to "manage" Afro hair? isn't that's how we got here, trying to "manage" it with straightening and relaxing? The best thing about Afro hair is you doesnt need managing stop trying to make it do things it doesnt do. Grab your pick and go lol

Natural hair is not just about skin color, it's about hair. I feel the natural hair is hair that hasn't been dyed, product heavy, damaged by straightening, etc. Its stepping in to your own natural hair that you were born with and celebrating it, being comfortable with it, and letting it be that part of you you were born with. Be proud of the hair you have. It wonderful! 😁❤❤❤

The only thing I got from this video is that most women who experience hair breakage and pain from getting protective styles should just not get protective styles because let’s keep it real here.… Most people don’t have access to a hair studio like this or even a hair stylist that knows how to properly install protective styles without causing a bunch of damage. Or most of us don’t have the money to pay for premium services like this. Maybe one day when I’m making enough money I’ll be able to go to a nice salon like this but the last time I ever even seen one of these in person it was like 300 bucks+ for a service. I’ve seen some charging upwards of 700 bucks per service. No hate, they are doing a service that is longer and more tedious that is going to have great benefits on your hair but not everyone can afford that….
