1/4 sawn is not stronger. That’s completely false. It’s stronger in one direction, weaker in another. I really think this oftentimes repeated lie would die. Think!

Is it advisable to do this on a finished neck with the fret board on, or can you do it on just the maple? In case you mess it up I mean..

If you were a beginner and didn’t have your established sources for the wood, would you be trying to locate local saw mills or lumber yards? I’m also upstate New York and the local lumber yard didn’t have a single piece of hard maple to fit the bill.

I would buy online from Stewart MacDonald.Its good wood and they are cool about returns if you don’t like it. Or… take a road trip to Condons in White Plains NY. Amazing mahogany, plenty of maple. Not much flame unless you get there on the right day. Even better; take a road trip to Oxford PA and visit Hearne Hardwoods and Groff on Scotland Road. You will see the best on the east coast. Don’t bring more money than you plan to spend ;the wood is amazing.

It has been said- if you wear pink bunny slippers with the black eyes staring sappily up at you , and stand on one foot, the energizer 9volt batteries emit a sonic wispy magical tone - gray mouse boots optional- they make it sound like an aluminum anodized Jazzmaster pickguard nuance -almost a sassafras 54’ sonic frequency

I've been watching these tutorial videos for hours ... and glad I watched this one last. One tutorial is pretty sad. Anyway, I learned the most from your video Rick. Thanks much for all the fine detail of tips. I have an Epi Dot which I like quite a bit ... except for the wide neck. I love the Player series necks that Fender has ... the Modern C shape. So I am going to get the contour of one of those, and then reshape the neck of my Dot. I realize that going up past the 10th fret I will not be able to get the same contour of the Fender bolt on neck, but I will transition into that area. Thank you! The neck is mahogany and the finish on the rest of the guitar is that cherry red. Some state to experiment with red dye & water on a blank piece of mahogany till I get the exact shade I want ... and then apply that to the neck. One luthier recommends Watco Teak Oil Finish, applying it with 1000 grit wet or dry. Do you have a red dye brand you would recommend? I intend to have the headstock finish wind up into that sort of V shape you did on this neck, to get the two finishes to blend together better

Many thanks. Tinting it to the correct color will take much time and a full set of TransTint stains from Stu-Mac. Why not mark a hard transition to the colored section with masking tape and oil finish the neck. It will feel great to the hand. I’ve used both Watco oil and Tru-Oil gunstock finish which are easy to apply and are a durable, professional finish.
@toddmayer6859 Жыл бұрын
@@richardmccurdy9333 Thanks much Rick. I bought the scrap piece of Mahogany to test out the TransTint, which is Cherry Red. I may need to also purchase black, in case the red is too bright. The Epi Dot colors are not all matching anyway. I did use blue painter's tape to mark off heel and headstock before I lightly sanded the finish to get a satin feel. That turned out very well, like you stated, it looks like a natural transition doing that .... ( both ends it juts into the neck area, not a straight line). Thanks again Rick!

Beautiful Solo Guitar arrangement of what He later titled Greenstreet on the John Abercrombie Quartet album 39 Steps. I met John in the 90s when he performed in Kansas City, Missouri. After his performance I told him how much of a big Influence and Inspiration his Music is to me and He gave me some very Encouraging words. Bill Evans said the purpose of Music is Enrichment. Mission Accomplished John. Mission Accomplished. Thanks.

The best guitar build videos I have yet to see, thankyou. My father, an antique reproduction furniture craftsman, taught me to never draw my marking lines more than once. Bad habit to draw twice. The secret to a successful build, is a sharp pencil. If one is this meticulous about a pencil, then the rest of the build will naturally follow.

That sounds fairly reasonable I think if you tap it and it sounds good it should sound good as a musical instrument too but I’m glad to hear about the parallel bracing Doc Stanton my harmony has that parallel bracing did they scalloped bracing in the Gibsons

Preise tell me what you mean with scalloped bracing in the Gibsons. I online know about the X-and parallel Bracing. Best regards, and greetings from Austria
@johnfought9248 Жыл бұрын
Scallop bracing is where they cut the bracing down a little they tap it trying to get a better sound out of it I don’t know exactly how to do it but it’s cut down in the middle of the brace looks like it’s been carved it is carved
@murraykilpatrick30297 ай бұрын
@@johnfought9248 i think that the points you leave high on scalloped braces are the node points. I think that working with nodes, will greatly affect the resonance of a soundboard.

I have a harmony box that I put an electric guitar neck on and the neck has a tendency to push down on the top so I think it broke one of the braces the braces run in line with the neck I don’t know if you’ve probably seen a harmony box guitar so is there anything I can do to make them sound better or will it weaken it so much that the top will continue to cave-in
