How can we first identify the children who are weak in studies, understand why they are struggling, and which methods can be used to improve their weaknesses? Also, what methods can be used to normalize children who are sharp in everything.

Hello, thank you for this list! I'm interested in getting my DSW. I earned my MSW in 2020, worked as a teacher until I went on maternity leave. Now I work as an academic advisor and adjunct instructor. I've noticed a lot of DSW programs require two years post masters degree experience. Does it have to be clinical related? Will my academic advising experience count?
@DonzellLampkins4 ай бұрын
It doesn't have to be clinical. Social workers are everywhere so every setting and role is valued. That said, some programs place more emphasis on certain things more than others. Based on what you said, you may want to consider St. Thomas University's DSW program, which emphasizes teaching.

Hi! I have a MSW degree with a concentration in global and community practice. I'm wondering if this program would cover the 12 clinical graduate courses of the educational requirement for the LCSW? TIA! :) x
@DonzellLampkins3 ай бұрын
Great question. You probably know the answer by now so please correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think it would because they probably need to be for credit courses, which this certificate course is not. Let me know how things are going.

To confirm , the path to be able to have a private practice…. complete 4 year bachelors, 2 year MSW and then about 2 years to gain the 3,000 hours, then take the exam ?
@DonzellLampkins3 ай бұрын
Yes. But then there's the actual logistical part of creating and legitimizing your practice. It's a great deal. Lots of moving pieces and details. Many people outsource.

Thank you so much for this video! I have a similar situation to you, and I missed my exam by 2 points. How far out did you schedule your exam the second time and how long and how often did you study between the first and second exam please? Thanks in advance & God bless you!

I scheduled out 1 month from the first exam to the second exam and studied for that month break. Proud of you, Renee! You got this! You are most welcome! And thank you for watching.

Let me begin with this - I am not a hater - I also have my social work degree and have been a subscriber of this channel for years. Also, I am part of a minority and oppressed group myself. I would recommend everyone avoid making your personal MSW statement sound like this one. If you pay attention - it's a bit "lackluster" due to him discussing more about other people like his wife or church and the bible. Yes, these are big components of who we are. However, this is not what they're looking for. MSW programs are looking for you to talk about who you are as an individual, not part of a relationship or Church. He used a common phrase that you should avoid "I chose social work bc I wanted to help people". EVERYONE knows that already. Instead, he should've discussed who he wants to help specifically and how he plans to achieve this goal. There was so much valuable time wasted talking about church, student loans, and debt and how he plans to avoid all of those things. This is not an application for a SUZE ORMAN program - this is to become a Master level professional and to earn the respect that comes with it. Focus on your personal strengths, challenges, and how you overcame all of the obstacles to be here today. Be specific in your writing and utilize APA format. This was overall not a bad statement and I mean no disrespect - but I feel like there are a couple things to note and I simply did just that. Thanks for sharing all that you do Donzell, I'll always be a supporter! I just don't think the content of your statement is what everyone should focus on because it drifts in and out quite extensively and is very vague and general. Instead! I think you should link to your other video about writing the statements - it's much better.

When working with your clients, do you ever run into a situation where the client has to move, but has limited means of getting the resources and help they need? How would you recommend someone that may need help to move but doesn't have any resources?
@DonzellLampkins7 ай бұрын
Hey! This is a great question. Depending on their demographic (not just race but citizenship status, military status, medical condition, etc), there are resources available to assist. It also depends on where they're moving to and where they currently live. Best of luck! Keep supporting and making a difference!

Did you have experience before? I have a Master's in Psychology but thinking about a DSW.
@DonzellLampkins7 ай бұрын
It depends on the DSW program as of today ((4/16/2024). But DSW programs are becoming standardized and accredited, which may require all DSW applicants to have a MSW/Master of Social Work. Hope this helps and best of luck!
@ozzinine6 ай бұрын
If I may, admissions to many DSW programs require a Master of Social Work with the requisite experience and licensure. However, these programs may accept a master's degree in what is considered a related field e.g., nursing, public health, etc. Of course, psychology would fall within this scope. What are your professional goals? If the objective is to achieve a terminal degree and pursue clinical practice, stick with Psychology. While a Doctorate of Social Work is perhaps shorter in duration it may not be what you're looking for. Their focus is not wholly psychoanalytical and includes topics such as research, policy, and organizational leadership. With that said, I know of clinical social workers who have expressed interest in obtaining a Ph.D. or Psy.D. At the end of the day, educational goals should be commensurate with your career goals.

Hey Angela! First, thank you for your services as a SPR! It's really up to the program and your employer to collaborate in a way that works to your advantage and meet CSWE requirements for internship. Speak with your internship coordinator. They should be able to help. Please let us know how it turns out! Rooting for you and wishing you the very best!

I stumbled upon your channel and I'm glad I did. I'm currently in my MSW program and I start field experience in March 2024. I am interested in your soft leads with the VA. I checked in my area but they are contracted with a large university, of which I do not attend. I have most of the hoops jumped to qualify me to work with the VA, just not sure who/where to reachout to to secure a spot by March. Thanks! Angela
