Good show a lot of people on fb groups are complaining about the Henry rifle not grouping
@sprucehilloutdoors4 күн бұрын
@@willisblevins4190 I honestly believe Henry makes a great rifle. I showed that it is capable of shooting a good group, that Federal 180 at 100 yards was a great group. I don’t believe it’s the rifle to blame for peoples bad groups, I more believe it’s the lack of quality factory ammo. I could only find Remington and Federal ammo and only in 180 grain and 200 grain. I believe this may shoot better with a 170 grain or even a 165 grain bullet, I don’t believe anyone makes them in this caliber. If more companies start making ammo for the gun I believe with experimentation you could find an even better load for this gun. Thanks for your comment and for watching the video.

Every rifle is different. My Marlin likes 'em hot. I use H4895 max loads, 150 gr. Sierras. It also likes Leverevolution, which is a pretty hot load. I tried IMR 3031. It is OK but not as good as the H4895. I have some H335 but haven't tried it yet. I think it is more the velocity (and the bullet) than the powder, but that's just my uneducated opinion. You are on the right track with your testing, plus it's fun to go shoot.
@lanceroberthough127516 күн бұрын
So it looks like the Rossi may have a faster twist rate and so it's going to like heavier bullets or the higher velocity bullets in the 150 grain. It'll be interesting to do with a chronograph to verify this.

If I may, I do gunsmith work as a hobby, you might know already but on a tube feed magazine, that's attached to the barrel, tgey are best tested single feed because if there is rounds in the magazine, the barrel harmonics change with each shot.

Couple of tips. Rifles with two-piece stocks usually shoot better when rested on the frame or just forward of that. Second, parallax can be an issue with fixed-focus scopes at close range set at high power. The low comb of the Henry can make it difficult to stay centered behind the eyepiece, which reduces the effect. I had an early Henry .308, one subject to the trigger recall. It would group my standard handload sub-moa for three at 100. It was damaged on its way back from the recall, and the replacement barrel was less accurate. I still have a .410 and a .357, and like them a lot. I’d like to see Henry offer a stock better suited for scope use. Add-on risers work, but add weight and can shift around. The recalled triggers and new ones are quite nice for a gun in this price range, perfectly usable, and better than most lever-actions by a good bit.

Seems like it likes 150s better. But I think people get a little wrapped around the axel about groups instead of bullet performance. You're not going to have a bench in the deer woods.
@JamesClark-lw6swАй бұрын
. YOU will never shoot better than the accuracy of the gun. A more accurate rifle makes it easier for you to hit with. More importantly, if you are shooting a consistently accurate rifle, then YOU know if you miss that is was your fault, not the rifle's.

I have one of these in the brass frame in 45-70. Love the gun. However I do not love the brass butt plate!!! A limb saver slip on recoil pad makes it a shootable gun. These are chambered without a throat and if you want to shoot anything other than a 300 gr bullet you must rent a throating reamer. Your 405, 450, 500 will not chamber at all.

@aaronwilcox64172 ай бұрын
Its not helping that your stock comb is very low in relation to your stock. It will make for inconsistent cheek contact and results. A poor fitting setup with a heavy trigger will have predicable results. Cheek riser is in ordee for that thing.

I'm not sure when you purchased the rifle but I own a 308 of the same model and a few years ago there was a factory recall mine had a very stiff trigger so I shipped it to the factory and they fixed the recall problem and that fixed the stiff trigger so I would check and see if your rifle is under the recall if it is call henry and have them send a shipping label and box to you and send it in they'll fix it for nothing and ship it back to you.. now mine has a good trigger not so stiff.. all the shots in the video are kill shots.. I wish you would do 100yd testing. All your testing seems to be at 50. Was the bore cleaned before this test? I am not impressed with the accuracy at 50yds. At 100yds those groups are going to open up more, so it looks like the R95 has below-average accuracy. Now I have think about purchasing the R95, because I am not liking the groups I am seeing, but the Federal does OK I guess. I would have preferred to see 5-shot groups to determine if the R95 can keep shooting "tight" with the Federal.

@@sprucehilloutdoors Cool thank you. I wasn't aware of a 100yd video. I am guessing you have the 20" R95 which is the barrel length I am looking at, but in stainless. I have a Rossi 92 in stainless and it still looks like new after 11 years without much cleaning on the outside except a quick wipe down like once a year. With these new high prices we are paying today for lever guns one would expect to get decent accuracy, but I think the 30-30 caliber itself is inherently limited in that dept. although my old Marlin 336 JM was almost a tack driver at 100yds even with open sights... but I have shot friends' newer (Remi) 336 that were not as accurate as the old JM 336's, so I am pretty sure a lot of it has to do with the quality of the barrel and how it's crowned.

You're figuring your elevations between 50 and 100 wrong. The center of your cross hairs in the scope are at the very least 1.5" above the center line of the bore. If your POI is 2.5" high at 50 you will be 5" high at 100. At 50 you should shoot POI 1.5" low to compensate for the scope above the center of the bore and that will darn near shoot POA at 100. Just my two cents worth. Love the rifle.
