Thank you for a very clear and easy to follow and understand tutorial. So many expect that we already have experience. But for those of us who are just starting out. Having those first tutorials to show us everything helps us to better understand what we are doing.

I did my first ever petal cane this Wednesday, at arts and crafts. Very bare bones resources, but I used what we had, and made a lovely pair of flowers, and a couple of earrings from the scrap. I'm absolutely in love with this, and wanted to thank you for all your videos, and for being my inspiration for my flowers. Only my second go, but already addicted, and am getting a beginners kit to make many more for xmas :)

I make my own complex butterfly canes, and have two butterfly tutorials in my Etsy shop PolyOriginals - link in details below the video - but I have stayed away from a Monarch Butterfly as it has been done by lots of other polymer clay artists and there are KZbin videos to show how to make one if you search , thank you 🙂

Thank you Fiona for such a interesting and informative video. I didn't realise how long clay lasts. I would love to see your storage and working area. Are you able to work/store in a pc only area? I would love to see a live tutorial, I'm now a member of the British polymer clay guild so I shall keep my eyes open😃, I'm in Norfolk and think the group meets in Diss which is a bit of a way and I get very anxious and can't get out often. I shall have to try to get my big girls knickers on lol. Thanks again, great results and take care🤗

Thanks so much, I have shared photos on social media of my workstation/room, but it's a few years back now, may have to repost the videos. I am so glad you are part of the guild, and the group that meet in Diss are lovely, and you'd have a great time. Is there a friend who could go with you the first time to make it easier for you? I understand what you mean about the anxiety issue, and am lucky enough to have a wonderful group of friends who are very supportive of me, so maybe someone near you could help out, at least for the first time, so you could see if it's something you'd then like to do again. You can always 'chat' to the group leader of the group on Facebook as well, as there may be someone nearer to you who goes to the group who you could get a lift with half way perhaps? We have a number of people who come to our group who share cars as one can do the journey, one cant etc. Hoping you manage to get to a meeting and have a fabulous time there. 🤞🤞🙂

Muchas gracias 🙂

I get asked about which Pasta Machine I use a lot, so here is the reply I give - I hope it helps 🙂The pasta machine I use is an Atlas machine, at home I use the 180 (a wider machine) and when travelling or on workshops, I use the 150. I have always used the Atlas machines and I find them very good for Polymer Clay. However, there are other very good makes, such as the Imperia machines, and of course those made specifically for use with Polymer Clay. Ginger Davis Allman, from The Blue Bottle Tree has a number of articles on Pasta Machines - thebluebottletree.com/?s=pasta+machines which may prove helpful in choosing a machine. Here is a link to an Atlas machine, (for reference only, as obviously there are many other places both online, and in stores where they can be found), and it is worth searching around till you can find a good deal on one. I hope that is of some help. www.amazon.com/Marcato-8320-Machine-Cutter-Instructions/dp/B0009U5OSO/ref=sr_1_3?crid=BPH5K7P26RQT&keywords=atlas+pasta+machine&qid=1556786279&s=gateway&sprefix=atlas+pasta+machine%2Caps%2C211&sr=8-3

As a newbie who hasn't yet plundged into actually creating anything. I'm just watching all the creators and tutorials that i like, finding some better than others(in my opinion lol). Do you have a 'dictonary' of the colours you've found during your clay journey? Or do you realy on these videos? I would love to see your creative area to see what you use for producing such beautiful creations. I'm just collecting together the tools and clays at present😃. I too live in UK and was wondering where you purchase your polymer clay as in a previous video you mentioned that you got through many packets a week? Thanks again, your videos are so clear and informative. Have a good Bank Holiday🤗

I am so glad you are enjoying the videos and are having fun collecting all the tools you need. As to colours, I tend towards brighter hues for most of my work, but everyone has their own colour choices, which is why I often give other colour options in my videos. I have various soucres for buying polymer clay, but am also a member of the British Polymer Clay Guild, who have a list of UK suppliers, some of which give discounts to guild members, which is a bonus too. I hope that helps. and wish you a great Bank Holiday weekend too. 🙂

I absolutely love watching you and I love your pieces. I’ve been working with clay for about two months and have such a hard time reducing anything I try to make. You all give such good techniques but all I get is a mess. If I ever get one right I’ll have to celebrate. Thank you for teaching.
@FionaAbelSmithPolyOriginals
@FionaAbelSmithPolyOriginals Ай бұрын
Don't be too hard on yourself, you are probably doing much better than you think - we are all our own worst critics. Reducing canes is something that takes time to learn how to do effectively and easily. Try to be even with your prressure along the length, apply the same pressure each time you rotate, and probably press in less hard than you are at the moment. It's more of a persuasion, than a hard press 😉 and if you have some spare scrap clay, then make that into a square or triangle shape and practice, practice, practice, using that first, till you start to get a feel for the pressure and rhythm you need. You will get there, we all did, and we all had to learn the same way. And yes, absolutley celeberate away when it suddenly goes right for you. I hope that helps a bit and lets you know we've all been there when we were learing 🙃🙂
