I've never seen Repo Man but I've met Sy Richardson. I was a PA on a low budget movie that shot in Jacksonville back in 2005 called South of Heaven. A couple of my friends starred in the movie and Sy Richardson stayed in the same hotel they were in. I went to hang out with them and Sy had a 24 pack of beer and let everyone know that they were all for him and he drank the rest of the night. He seemed like a wild guy but he was pretty friendly. I need to see Repo Man one of these days. I saw an Alex Cox movie a long time ago that I really didn't enjoy and just haven't given anything else a shot yet. But this sounds pretty intriguing.

Totally pumped to the max for A Simple Plan! Blu ray has been out of print for years, so a 4k (native 4k/DV/HDR10) is icing on cake. It has that Fargo vibe, but very different script, not a cheap ripoff. Bill Paxton and Billy Bob Thornton play off of each other to the hilt in a very original and brilliant script imo. I compare it somewhat to Treasure of the Sierra Madre, starring Bogart, with found treasure, human greed to the max.

A Simple Plan is a 5 star movie for me. Absolutely love it. And Shawscope 3 is a must. I have all of the shaw brothers sets from Arrow and Shout so I'm obviously a huge fan of their movies. If you want to give a Shaw Brothers title a shot, Eight Diagram Pole fighter is a great movie to start with. Arrow is a stand alone release of it. An earlier title they have a stand alone release of is One-Armed Boxer which I'd also highly recommend.

I’ve also have to watch Rififi. Bought it years ago. I saw the Heiress. Heartbreaking romantic film. I saw Touki Bouki. Good movie. It somewhat reminds me of The Harder They Cone.

First discovered Bong Joon Ho, with Snowpiercer based on the book, really liked it, then watched Parasite which was superb thoroughly deserving of its awards. He exec produced the tv series Snowpiercer especially in its first season.

Many people including Scorsese and Roger Ebert consider Ikiru to be Kurosawa’s greatest film. It’s definitely great but I do personally prefer Seven Samurai and Yojimbo and maybe Rashomon.

It’s funny, I’ve actually also set out to watch all my unwatched Criterions, but my timeline is just before I buy any more. I have 20 films to watch, including The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp and A Special Day. There’s some movies I’ve had for more than a year that I just haven’t gotten to and a few I got during the July sale.

*Picnic at Hanging Rock* - I used to love this when I was younger, I still think its a great movie although I no longer watch it. *Rififi* - The mould for many heist films, I prefer the parody from a few years later "Big Deal on Madonna Street" *The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp* : A long film, but a great one *Ikiru* - Not among my favourite Kurosawa's but still an essential watch *Slacker* - Not seen *The Last Emperor* - Not seen *Touki Bouki* - I started to watch this many years ago, I cannot remember why I didn't finish it (not very helpful, sorry) *A Special Day* - Only seen it once but this is a great movie; writing, acting and cinematography all top notch *The Heiress* - My favourite of all those on your list I have seen, I have the Criterion and have watched it many times ! *Girlfight* - Great performance from Michelle Rodriguez Happy viewing James !

The only one on your list that I've seen is Slacker. It's fun but don't really look for a plot. It's sort of a walk through a college town with all the eclectic people who live there. It's fun. I have Notorious and Perfect Days in my collection that I'll see this month. Also I'll check out Small Axe

Im terms of the personal cinema journey both Picnic at Hanging Rock and Ikiru are game changers. Glad your getting to Picnic as it was a game changer for me and in my top 10 films currently of sll time. Ikiru will add to the Kurosawa experience in a different way. My Criterion watches from my unwatched will be Kiss Me Deadly from 1955 based on the Mickey Spillane book and Powell and Pressburgers The Tales of Hoffman.

Curiosity got the best of me at the 5:37 mark and after a quick check online I was on the way to my local Barnes & Noble to pick up a 4k copy of Crimson Peak. Along for the ride home came Night Falls on Manhattan, The Shootist, and the 4k of Dark Water. Side note related to Dark Water, back in the early 2000s I was getting a crepe for breakfast in San Francisco's Japantown and saw Koji Suzuki (author of the Ring novels and the Dark Water short stories, among others) coming out of Kinokuniya (Japanese bookstore) next door. He was kind enough to wait while I ran inside to buy a copies of Ring and Dark Water for him to sign. Now to finish watching your Arrow Reaction.

Hey, I missed the live stream but caught the replay. I saw A Simple Plan in the theaters. Really messed up plot, very obvious that Sam Raimi was influenced by his friends, The Coen Bros, with that one. I picked up At Close Range in MVD's black Friday sale last year but still haven't watched it. I definitely remember seeing it on TV in the 90s but dont remember anything about it socitll be like a first watch again.

This is possibly THE great American Western (though I guess Once Upon a Time in the West will always get that accolade). It marks both the end of the 'wild' west and also the end of the optimism of the 1960s and it's told as a tragedy of two friends on opposing sides of history. A masterpiece. Peckinpah fell out with the studio and they butchered his vision of the film which is why the 3rd cut exists on this boxset. Watch that one even though it's 2K instead of 4K.
