Love. Intimacy. Romance. That's what I desire deeply. The room is brightly lit. The room is like a cage, on both the walls and floor, cold, metallic. I can see through the wires, the room is floating in a black void. I am barefoot, the wires are painful and cold as I stand on them. I search through the room and it is totally empty. Nothing. Only hardness and cold. Then a door appears. A dark creature with many tentacles, one large eye with a small pupil and a mouth in a great grin, invites me to this new room. The door opens, I don't see the creature. This room is dark, so I use a match that suddenly transforms into a lighter. This room is different. Not cold, but rather warm. The walls are pale pink. A similar, reddish pink carpet covers the floors. This room is empty as well, but still more comfortable to be in. I notice a pink sofa. I try to move it into the cage room. It is very hard, the sofa is heavy. I push it to the door. It can't fit through first, but after many tries, it goes in. The sofa is now in the cage room. Then the sofa transforms the cage room into a dimly lit version of the dark pink room. The floor is no longer made out of wires, I feel carpet. The walls are solid and pink. I gently touch the sofa. I sit down and look at the whole room proudly.

Hey, enjoying your content and the thoughtfulness you've put into it. Just a kind suggestion for your future videos - in your guided meditations, you speak too much/ almost continuously, thus being more of a distraction than a guide. I had to stop your last few videos because of how much you speak during the meditation/active imagination part. I have done quite a bit of guided meditation in the past, and the balance between silence and trigger words is crucial (with silence getting at least 70% of the weight). It can be uncomfortable to hold that silence in a recording, but would strongly recommend you to try it! Other than that, your content is good, thanks for sharing and keep it up!

Check out the Inner Work Exercises podcast - I publish extended versions of the exercises there. The BtL series is scheduled to go live there in the Spring with extended exercise sections. MiC Inner Work Exercises Podcast - open.spotify.com/show/4OMC4T1PNsA951dvvHhYMs I am re-releasing the exercises because different viewers have different preferences and have expressed interests in both kinds. KZbin versions also provide a more accessible option for those not familiar with active imagination. This is to be expected and is the reason for my approach. I don't think it's accurate to say that I talk "almost continuously" in the guided exercises. For YT versions I use standard size pauses of 20-60s silence for major prompts and 10-15s for minor prompts. This is easily achieved with audio editing software and is not beholden to how comfortable or uncomfortable I am with silence. For the podcast versions these pauses are extended between 1.5-2x. It's also recommended to progress to unguided practice of active imagination in time. There are many benefits to guided but naturally the unguided practice is where you can have the most free reign to engage with the unconscious content. I talk about this later in the series and there is also a course available called How to Talk to Yourself intended to help with precisely this: knowyourself.makeitconscious.com/course/activeimagination

Would you mind explaining what is meant by the second half of the Jung quote? I think I understand it but I want to make sure. Thanks. Oh, and I hope you had a good holiday!
@makeitconscious3 күн бұрын
Sure thing SleepyLee. And thank you... it ended with what I think was a bout of COVID and I'm now shaking it off after ten days. It was a great opportunity for self-reflection and purging what needed to be purged. The quote by Jung for reference is: “The aim of individuation is nothing less than to divest the self of the false wrappings of the persona on the one hand, and of the suggestive power of primordial images on the other.” 'Primordial images' is referring to the archetypes of the collective unconscious. The first part is effectively to free yourself from persona-shadow dynamics. The second is about your relationship to archetypes. Archetypes can be thought of as fundamental patterns or structures that exist as potentials in the objective psyche, manifesting through symbols, behaviours, and experiences when activated by psychic energy. Jung talked about a handful including the shadow, mother, father, Self, trickster, hero. There is no universally agreed upon list of archetypes, but I think a case can be made for the major arcana of the tarot. The shadow, too, is an archetype, as well as having a significant personal component. Archetypes can be immensely powerful, alluring and easily identified with. There can be the risk of both possession and inflation, which can be thought of as being owned/controlled by and believing you own/control the archetype respectively. Becoming obsessed with or possessed by a particular archetype can feel like an easy and empowering 'out,' especially when real life becomes challenging and the ego lacks the strength and/or confidence to assimilate it. But the journey of becoming yourself requires that tension and conflict are faced down and assimilated, and the self in relation to the archetypes can be established. So Jung here is referring to the need to stand as an individual, in relationship to these universal forces but not overpowered by or identifying with them. Let me know if that makes sense or if anything needs clarifying. I'm also planning to release some more content on the archetypes over the next couple of months.

I submit to and obey Mother Mary. She told me ‘I am in you’. For She possesses me body and soul and will and mind and every part of me She possesses. I surrendered my life to Mary my Mother, for the reflected light of God shining in Her evoked that free surrender in me. Submission to Her is the purest joy imaginable because no praise is enough to express Her Majesty
@makeitconscious2 күн бұрын
Sounds like you had a very powerful encounter with the mother archetype. However it's important to remain grounded in these encounters and not allow yourself to be overcome by archetypal material. In active imagination the aim is not to become possessed by an archetype but to enter into a two way interaction with it. Your conscious position also has value and needs to be considered in the equation. Likewise the archetypal content has its own direction and purpose which, as awe-inspiring as it can be, must be taken in consideration of your own needs and those of the other archetypes. I recommend taking a step back, ensuring you are on firm footing and proceeding only when you can hold your own in future encounters. A good place to start is the Beyond the Limen series where I provide an introduction to the practice of active imagination. I am extremely grateful for this, and the other 2 episodes. This man is not only intellectually honest, but very generous too. I especially appreciate the readings of the extracts, with careful intonation to help us focus on the meaning, followed by his interpretations. This channel is replete with 'spiritual' advice; the fact that fewer than 1000 people have watched this, and virtually nobody has opened a discussion, speaks to me of how superficial we have become collectively. These issues obviously cannot be understood superficially, by definition. Thank the lord that someone is approaching and sharing this fundamental wisdom with real integrity. I hope it gains traction.

Thank you very much sir. It's always encouraging to hear when honest content is resonating with people. I've been involved in enough superficial pursuits and experienced the full import of its dark side to have any interest in any of that. I feel I have little option other than to be myself and do what comes to me, so that's what I do. There's an abundance of philosophy and psychology from the last 200-300 years which is highly applicable to personal and societal challenges today but which still has little influence on public minds and direction. There's definitely a job for many people to bring it into the conversation, work with it and build on it. If we perceive someone as being virtuous or cruel, does it possibly mean that if WE were to do their actions our intentions would be that which we perceived?
@makeitconscious18 күн бұрын
Nice observation! Yes this is true to a large extent. We might render other people's actions as meaning what they would mean to us if we did them. For example if we recognise the danger in emotional manipulation and choose not to do it on that basis, we might regard others even behaving with social skill as being necessarily manipulative. However this doesn't mean that there isn't some truth - virtue and/or cruelty - in what we are seeing. But it can give powerful insights into our own shadow dynamics as well as allow us to see the behaviour clearly. There is both light and dark to every quality.

@makeitconscious18 күн бұрын
Well done for completing the exercise. What the symbol means is specific to you at this time. Symbols do not have a fixed, universal meaning since they reflect ineffable aspects of the unconscious in the way that the conscious mind can best relate to them. The appearance of a pug could have many potential meanings. What does a pug mean to you? With active imagination the most important part is to engage with the symbol, honouring its autonomy. You could even try re-engaging with this symbol and asking it what it means. It would be interesting to see how this symbol and your relationship with the anima changes over time.

Hi Max. Third time lucky, through one thing and another I had completely fallen asleep on two previous occasions during the meditation, busy time of year I guess. Tonight I remained conscious. I was in a log cabin in a luscious, underground ravine. I had dreamt of the ravine before and seen it again in another mediation from two other perspectives or places in the ravine. The log cabin has books, a stove, a pine table and four chairs. The floor isn’t perfectly clean, there is some soil but overall it is habitable and free from any modern devices. An older woman in her 60’s appeared. I discovered her to be a manifestation of my maternal grandmother who passed away just before my 18th birthday, 26 years ago. She urged me to find the fearlessness of my early childhood. She said that love always conquers fear but to conquer fear first and then allow love in would result in a stronger more meaningful understanding of faithful love. She was pleased to see me and hugged me, she told me she was proud of me despite my mistakes, setbacks and foolishness in the past, she said she always knew my journey would be a difficult one before presenting me with a large heavy golden key on a dark red cushion. I asked her where the door is that the key opens but she told me it would appear when I had done all that I needed to do. Be fearless and faithful and it will appear.

In the first minute of the video, i thought this wouldn’t work for me. But as i carried on and let my imagination bring up whatever came to my mind without judging it, i found buried treasure the deeper the submarine went, along with different creatures swimming alongside the submarine following my decent. As i approached the ocean floor i noticed a rather large sea-like creature tinted in shadows with dark red eyes that was far bigger than the submarine itself. It remained hidden from plain sight but continued to move in the shadows, as if it was avoiding its features to be seen by the light. As the submarine came to the pit of its journey, i saw a kind of vault half sunken into the ocean floor. I became frustrated wondering why nothing was coming to mind as to what might be locked inside, when suddenly my mind started to convince me this is where my child-like qualities had been kept, or rather suppressed for the past 10+ years. The way i used to be boundless in my imagination and authentic in my approach to life. That’s all i’ve got so far. I’ve gotta think about what i saw and process it some more before i blur the lines of what i’d like to have seen versus what was actually seen.

Hi Max, I hope you're doing well. I definitely think active imagination is very beneficial tool (so to speak). I have tried to continue it on in my day to day life. I find it's been a little hard. I can embody the position of the archetypes better so in turn I can facilitate conversation with different parts of myself more smoothly. I have discovered I am a clever person in trying to outsmart myself back to square one with progress. I know it's a contradiction but I feel like I have taken responsibility for my mind. I work so hard but achieve so little. I know this can't be true (taking responsibility), though, because how can I take responsibility for my mind when my mind is the very same thing that I am constantly having to call out? At this rate, how can I ever make significant headway? Have a good week Max!
@makeitconscious24 күн бұрын
You raise a great point SleepyLee about the mind taking responsibility is the same being taken responsibility for. This presents unavoidable challenges. The moment "you" try to make something happen a duality is set up. This is how it has to be. The Fool card from the tarot hints at this. We must trip ourselves up before reconciling with ourselves. There is contradiction at every turn, and also non-contradiction, and that's OK. But also not OK. Wanting to "achieve" something inexorably sets up a shadow. Not trying to achieve something brings about its own results. There is no single solution and wanting one contains its own problems. Then again, "man needs difficulties," as Jung said, "they are necessary for health." Taking responsibility for the mind is about understanding the nature and workings of mind and changing our relationship to it. There's no way around the need for an ego because an ego is simply the directed sense of 'I' that must go out and encounter the world for anything to be known. Whenever there is a mismatch between what we set out to do and what we end up doing, it is pointing to an inner conflict. In such situations it can be beneficial to enquire into what is the motivation and benefit behind what the ego deems as undesirable. Is there something in it that we secretly want and need? This is about acknowledging and embracing duality. In one way, *not* taking responsibility for the mind is equivalent to denying duality. These are a few thoughts that came up... feel free to let me know if it resonates.

If you’re an atheist, can not say evil exists. Evil is undefined since its not objective. And because its subjective you would have no issue with someone doing horrible things because he used the processes that you used to come up with an answer. Therefore you just have to let him do what wants. Plus your morality isn’t enforceable, again both had the same process to come to their solution. Life is pointless without God. I invite you to worship 1 God, doesn’t begit, nor is born, self-sustaining, all-powerful, all-wise. I call you to submission to God to the religion of Al-Islam. To escape that pointless life and know right and wrong objectively.
@makeitconsciousАй бұрын
You have misunderstood, this is not a case for moral relativism. It's precisely about saying that neither a purely subjective nor absolutist approach to morality are sufficient. Welcome to the world of nuance...
@Abu3ilmАй бұрын
@@makeitconsciousso you are questioning, whether using morality is the right thing to do or not? I got the argument, but whether you want to use morality or not, how do you use something you don’t know? You don’t know exactly what morality is, so bother questioning to always using it or not?
@makeitconsciousАй бұрын
No, I am not questioning whether morality is the 'right' thing to do or not. That would be a moral statement in itself. Let me bring it back to the point. Neither a purely subjective nor absolutist approach to morality are sufficient. You appear to be defining morality from an absolutist perspective and talking about it in fixed terms, hence I think our point of confusion. Postulating a fixed morality is not the same as 'knowing morality.' And not subscribing to an absolute morality does not automatically mean that someone has no morality or is an atheist or moral relativist. Life is paradoxical, nuanced, complex... it requires us to hold the tension of apparent opposites if we are to truly 'know' the truth that underpins them. This, in my experience, is how to know God.
