Trouble is, Darwin explained ( way back in 1859) how Natural Selection directs the evolution of breeding populations towards local peaks in their fitness landscapes. That results in the adaptation of the populations to the environments in which they reproduce reproducers thereby giving the appearance of having been designed for life in those environments. The truth is that the story of Jesus Christ is a retelling story of Julius Caesar. From miracle birth (people in those times made up rumors of his birth being a miracle because is was born from an operation which we now call C-section. Named after Julius Caesar). Julius borrowed money to run as for senate. Once he be came leader, he gave back to the poor. Julius was betrayed, stabbed and killed. Julius invited the calendar we know today as the Gregorian calendar (altered from the Julian calendar to add leap year). Both have the same initials JC, JC. And christ is not Jesus's last name. Some even go as far to say Jesus is not his first name. Some say Jesus is the "son" of God and other say is God in the form of human. Which is it?

I'm not angry at God for the same reason I'm not angry at Sauron, or Voldemort, or Professor Moriartry. They're characters in stories! I can, however, clearly understand why other characters in those stories *would* be angry at someone with immense power who is perfectly willing to destroy or terrorize great swarms of innocent people in order to make some idiotic point about his own insecurities.

Atheism and intelligent design are not really diametric opposites. Atheism is simply a lack of a belief in a god and is in no way a scientific position on anything.. ID is an attempt to clothe creationism in the rags of scientific language. The true opposites are science and ID.

He's a great example of an ex-Christian (Mennonite / evangelical / fundamentalist) who sincerely wished (and still wishes, at some level) that Christianity were true. He prayed repeatedly for the gift of faith. His "conversion" to atheism cost him a lot of relationships, etc. But he simply concluded, well into his adulthood, that Christianity is false. The evidence to support it was simply not there, when he took a closer look (examining the factual record and scholarly analysis). Paul is not mad at God---which would be nonsensical. Christianity is declining precipitously in the U.S. among young people. They're not mad at anyone. They just think Christianity is ancient myths from the Bronze Age (and Iron Age). They're not mad at Allah or Poseidon either. You think that Sam Harris is "mad" at God? Nope. He just thinks it's ridiculous and completely divorced from reality. Most people who have ever lived are non-Christians. Most people living today are non-Christians. Most Christians live in a bubble, in their own community, where Christianity is still a normal thing. Religious Jews are also non-Christians, of course. And they should know: Their ancestors were around when Jesus lived (assuming, as I do, that Jesus was a real person and not just a complete myth--as some atheists think). Jews simply believe that Jesus's biological father was Joseph, not "God". Christian apologists are just ridiculous. I guess they need to come up with some storyline to explain away the increasing prevalence of atheism, to make themselves feel better. Christian apologists don't wish to challenge their own beliefs.
