There are absolutely Darwin-esque properties to chemical evolution. Different molecules can be synthesized in very basic conditions like wet/dry cycles. If a certain chemical/molecule can catalyze with more efficiency or incorporate some resource with more efficiency it will be “selected” in favor of molecules/reactions inferior properties.
